The primary airport serving Panama, Sri Lanka is the Bandaranaike International Airport (CMB), located approximately 30 kilometers away from Way of the Bay.
Once you arrive at Bandaranaike International Airport, you can easily reach Way of the Bay by taxi or private transfer. Taxis are readily available outside the airport terminal, and the journey takes around 45 minutes, depending on traffic. Alternatively, you can pre-arrange a private transfer for a more personalized and comfortable experience.
For those looking for a more budget-friendly option, you can also take a local bus from the airport to Panama city center. From there, you can catch a tuk-tuk or hire a taxi to take you to Way of the Bay. Arugam Bay is not a sightseeing destination for families, but more a place for surfers and backpack tourists and the hotel shows it. It is a very simple place with very few rooms and only half of them have an A/C. We chose a room with A/C since we figured that nights in Sri Lanka can be quite warm, but that was completely futile since on both nights we stayed there the power went out, hence, no A/C and no fan - that means it either gets very stuffy or you can open the windows (and the mosquito nets) and then you have mosquitos. This was by no means the hotels fault though, since the power went out for all Arugam Bay. The hotel however has a generator so if you can find somebody there in the middle of the night (not that easy since the place is only run by two people) they will switch the power back on, although without the A/C since it uses too much power. The hotel itself is very simple. In the rooms you have two queen sized beds so even though it is considered a two person bedroom you could easily fit four people in it. The bathroom does have a slight smell to it, but is reasonably clean. The is only cold water and the shower is in the middle of the bathroom so keep in mind after a shower the floor and the toilet are wet. So if you look only at the hotel the place is mediocre at best, I have stayed in better youth hostels (but, of course, you also have to consider that this place was hit hardest by the Tsunami in 2004 and there was hardly any help rebuilding this area). But I have to say that the staff was one of the most helpful I ever encountered. When we arrived in Arugam Bay in the night we didn't have any more money. So one of the guys working there just gave us Rupias worth ~100 US$ to get something to eat for the night, without signing anything, just on trust. Everybody working there got out of their way to help us out with anything, and they are really relaxed about it. I have to say I wouldn't go there for the hotel, I would go there again for the sta
Advertised with a picture of a beautiful cabana solely located on the beach, we booked a cabana at this hotel. Once arrived we discovered that the cabana was not located at the beach, but together with several other cabana’s situated at the back of the hotel, surrounding a parking space. There goes the beach view! In fact, you had to leave the hotel, cross the main road and pass other hotels before you reached the beach. The cabana’s were not completely ready to be used (according to the staff) and to us they looked they were ready to fall apart. Given the few options we had at that time (most hotels were booked for that night) we upgraded to one of their hotel rooms for an additional. The hotel rooms were basic rooms, not very well maintained, but with a double bed, a private bathroom and AC. There were no sheets, no towels, the bathroom smelled like a sewer, the AC hardly worked and the mosquito net had big holes. It took half an hour to find somebody from the staff (he was sleeping somewhere at the back) to get us some towels and sheets (worn down). Not our best spent on a hotel room in Sri Lanka. The hotel features may also be somewhat exaggerated or were accidently not “available” when we stayed there. There was no restaurant, no room service, not possible to pay with credit card, no Wi-Fi and no 24-hour reception (curfew). The next morning we gladly checked out and checked in a really located on the beach, and in a real cabana with real beach view for half the money and double the value. You need a lot of fantasy to find this an attractive place to stay. Save your money and book one of the hotels situated on the beach with some real atmosphere.
Das Hotel entspricht nicht dem was wir eigentlich erwartet haben, Zimmer sehr , sehr einfach, Bad existiert praktisch nicht und nur kaltes Wasser zum waschen und Duschen. Stromabschaltungen täglich mind. 3 Stunden und manchmal auch in der Nacht. Mini Stromgenerator bringt nur Leistung für Licht, nicht für Klimaanlage. Frühstück sehr einfach, Restaurant nicht vorhanden. Die gesamte Anlage ist nur Mangelhaft gepflegt. Zimmerpreise sind bei weitem nicht angemessen, werden auch vor Ort zu niedrigsten Preisen an Back Packer Touristen vermietet.Unsere Zimmer mussten erst bei unserer Ankunft von so einer Gruppe frei gemacht werden, sehen dann auch entsprechend ungepflegt aus. Der Aufenthalt war einfach nur Entäuschend, wir sind unzufrieden wieder nach Hause gefahren.
