excellent service. close to malls, specialty shops and restaurants
I think there are a lot of hotels, so Travellers can enjoy reasonable price even absolute 5 star hotel.
Their location and pool setting is the best of the various hotels that I researched. The BTS and riverbus stations are 50 m from the hotel making it perfect for avoiding traffic jams. Unfortunately my room was a little dated, musty and the toilet did not work properly even after a few repairs. However, the maid was great! The terrace restaurant should offer side orders of vegetables, food quality was middling and disappointing, service was not attentive. I would return due to their location.
I stayed at Shangri-la because of how well known it was as a hotel chain in Asia. I was expecting 5 star glamour with top service. The front lobby was very nice but once you go to your hotel room it starts to go down hill. Carpeting everywhere and it smells old. The room has so so amenities they were great 30 years ago but outdated now. They have electronic curtains and a large bathroom, but other than that it was not 5 stars more like 3 stars because of how old it felt. I would have rather stayed at the holiday inn or Marriott for the price. Staff were not that friendly, always seen to be busy on their phone. There was a security check at the entrance which was odd and made the hotel feel ghetto. I would say the only good thing is the outside terrace and balcony view is nice. It’s heart a night food market too.
Great location, pool was nice (although part closed for renovations), fantastic buffet breakfast & great staff. We stayed in the 'Krungthep rooms' which are actually in a different building 6-7 minute walk from the main lobby & amenities. There was nothing wrong with the room however we grew tired of the walk back & forth by day 3. We would however book this hotel again if ever we are back in Bangkok.
Shangri-La Bangkok is a beautiful property with amazing decor and architecture. It literally had the largest bed I've ever selpt in! And it was a nice surprise that the entire mini bar was complimentary (chips, candy, water, soda and beer). The room had amazing views of Bangkok's Skyline and the Chao Praya River. We enjoyed easy access to the river as the hotel has its own pier as well as access to the Sathorn Pier. Overall, it was a good experience and would recommend! We will probably stay at other Shangri-La properties in the future.
Loved the gardens and proximity to the river Complimentary boat to the IconSiam was a bonus.
Love this hotel. Will return when the pool rehab is complete
Good stay but mainly because the price was right. This is a large hotel, pool was extremely crowded, and pool staff not helpful. Room was clean, great shower, and nice linens. Biggest issue was the lack of transportation in the river. The peninsula boats were all over the place escorting their guests to any stop. As a 5-star riverfront hotel, the fact that the shangrila-la only shuttled to the icon Siam once an hour and stopped at 5pm was disappointing. Had to walk on a weird street through construction to get to the public boats, which were not great.
We stay in the old wing. Room small and over priced. Common areas, pools, restaurants exelent. Prime location on the River. Recommend the wing with balconies.
Excellent experience. Highly recommend. Perfect hotel.
Hotel is well positioned on the river next to the ferry and train station. Hotel is lovely and rooms were very good. Would choose this again.
We were in the older hotel quarters, which were still upheld to a high standard. We enjoyed using the facilities as well - the boat to ICON Siam is relatively quick but only arrives once an hour.
Magic hotel, cannot recommend highly enough.
It has been a fantastic getaway retreat for many over the years, but time has not been good to the Shangri-La, it's once pristine facade and service is now tarnished and tired and the shine has definitely disappeared which is a shame. You once could completely rely on top facilities and exceptional service, but along with the shine that all seems to have gone too. There are much better Hotels to go to now below the asking price of here, we sadly, after many years patronage, will not be returning.
Always a pleasure staying here. Its getting a tad dated, but still one of the better ones.
It’s ok, but old.
I loved my time here, the service and rooms were great, would stay here again
The room, breakfast and service are all very good, the environment is very relaxing, I like it here.
There was no room available when we arrived. We had to wait up until 3:45pm when they texted us toom was ready,. Waited at the with nobody informing us. Our luggages were sent to the room so late that they had to ask what color, hoa many etc despite the bag tags that we showed them,
Always a perfect place to spend few days in bangkok
Only one word : fantastic
Loved everything about our stay . This place is superb 👌 Highly recommend!!!
Though a old hotel, staff are friend and breakfast has big verity of choice. Hotel Thai restaurant have nice food and best service. Spa in the hotel are excellence, need to book early 1 to 2 weeks before your arrival.
Good location And staff very friendly and helpful
Very luxurious and comfortable stay. Came here for my birthday and they put in several decorations to celebrate the occasion. Appreciated the friendly service and clean rooms. Will stay here again next time I visit Bangkok.
We will definitely book a stay here again in the future. The breakfast buffet was delicious with lots of options for your liking. Location near the Sathon pier makes it easy to commute across the Chao Praya River and get to landmark destinations. The staff is friendly and accommodating. Love our stay here!
One of our favourite hotel never disappoint. From the staff courtesy and it's professional work to unbelievable variety of excellent food - all is great with this hotel.
Beautifully located on the river…tip: if you can afford it book the Krungthep side of the hotel if you want to avoid the big crowds which happen if you stay in the Wing side. Excellent service, pricey, but it’s to be expected. So much better than staying downtown.
I will definitely go back
Slightly dated interior but overall good. Would recommend 👍
We had a great experience there.
First the Good things: view from balcony and Christmas / New year fireworks, boat ride to and fro IconSiam, spacious room (we opted for bigger room to fit an extra bed for our son), river side restaurant (evenings much better), man at Concierge (sorry I can’t recall his name) was very helpful, next to pier and bts so good for boat rides to various places alongside the river in the city. Now what we did not like: - the access to this hotel is through a busy lane which are not clean and ill maintained shops and buildings, - unhygienic hotel lobby as toilets had insects (lizards), mosquitos at some lacs which made it difficult to sit for food in the evening (specially at river side restaurant). - it has two separate wings and they put us in a wing named Krungthep which is a bit further from the main Shangri-La wing (we got a car drop to the wing with our room but the drive through was not at all close to the price we paid for the stay). - while checking in I brought it to the attention of the front desk staff that if I don’t like the new wing or the breakfast (which was assured to us as having same in both wings) the. We would need to shift to the Shangrila wing.. after having breakfast at the K’thep wing for days we went to th min wing on the 3rd and were surprised that it had separate counters for Indian food (I prefer Indian whenever possible but had to do with food which I don’t relish too much). on several occasion we were assured that both places are exactly same which it is not. - when I shared the lizard picture with the hotel and asked for changing the room to the new tower, they did oblige and showed me another room but since the view was not river facing we did not take that and thanked the duty manager (Ms Ice). On her own she offered a hotel credit of THB 3000 ( which I told her. I Don’t need but she insisted) to be used during our stay however when I told her that the lizard was in the lobby toilet and not in the room she said she cannot give the room credit as it is okay to have them in lobby toilet and not rooms, so we did not have the oomph credits as she took it back. I said to her I don’t want any credit and she voluntarily offered and went back on her words. I anyways paid a huge sum for stay it’s my family during Christmas so wanted a good break which she and her team spoiled. - the extra bed which we paid for in advance, was a damaged and ripped off from all corners giving a poor impression to a room with well set bed. - breakfast spread was just okay for the price they charge. They can’t manage the flow at Next2 and they need some major refurbishments to make it more useful for the space it has.. - main wing lobby has good vibe and singing performance in the evening which was missing in the K’thep wing lobby . So if you don’t use the main lobby (you will not notice if you don’t go there specifically to see the lobby and other restaurants) you will feel to have stayed in a n ill maintained old property with nothing to be excited about vs what you paid for. - overall it is an overpriced hotel, with some poor service staff, really bad location (except river view from rooms and river side bar/ restaurant) and access, and don’t get fooled by the 2 wings which they are not clear about and should share the lobby and access /entrance experience of both wings being completely different.. Sorry to the property for being not so helpful with the reviews give but it should allow others to know what they should get when they are considering to make a booking.
Great location by the riverside.
Very nice hotel with great staff
Had to serve my own drinks , did not feel welcome , kept being told what time it was closing , very disappointed.
Loved the gym. Staff very accommodating
One of the best hotels I have stayed in in Bangkok. Location is amazing. Beautiful views, great staff, friendly service.
Sewerage smells from toilet. Noise from street and hotel corridors….it’s not the same hotel that I used to stay 10 years ago!
Avoid kruthip wing at all cost especially u have infant and wheelchair … i traveling with both and need travel 200m to breakfast every morning with stairs up n down… although the have transport but is van. Room is a bit run down and need renovate. I would say if stay at shangrila wing will be totally different experience.
Everything is perfect. Except toilet water spray is very hard to press and water pressure is very high and painful. Recommend to check toilet water spray and change with easy to press and water pressure as normal. Apart from that perfect. Definitely we will come back and recommend to others. Worth it.
The unexpected room upgrade was amazing! The staff are super friendly and great. Thank you!
Amazing riverview , proximity to tourist sites and easy access to ferry.
Good value for money, breakfast buffet was great. Free shuttle to Icon Siam. Slightly further walk to the public ferries. Generally not as well connected to the other parts of Bangkok like Pratunam etc..
Very nice staff Lovely view off the river Comfortable rooms and bed
Check in was slow, room wasnt ready until 15.15. Breakfast was okay, the room was clean,we could borrow umbrella when it was raining and there was a free shuttle ferry to cross the river. But wouldnt come back for more stays. Wasnt worth it.
Good location Nice staff Hotel a bit old Comfortable rooms Buffet breakfast average Good location
good
If you look for a great relaxing stay in luxury in Bangkok at an affordable price, the Shangri-La is fantastic.
“Best deal along the Chao Phrya river”
Very sweet staff who try their best to fulfill your requests. The hotel covers a large area. While the Shangri La wing is a short walk from the BTS station, you can use walk through the Krungthep wing to get to it. Free hourly shuttle boat to Iconsiam. Out of all the luxury hotels along the river, this has got to be best bang for the buck. Only irritation was the pesky birds during al fresco breakfast, so personally I'd recommend eating outdoors just for one day, soaking up the vibes while you can.
