Did you find this review summary helpful?
I paid about 44 usd for two people for two nights. This is absurdly cheap, and the experience reflects it! Positives: cheap!!! You are around the corner from a bus stop, ten minutes from the subway(uphill when you arrive), and a short walk to one of the most gorgeous temples in the city. The shower stalls were clean, and the cafe space downstairs is super cute! The night we arrived they were having a karaoke night and there was a nice community vibe :) The negatives: what my partner could only refer to as “the stench” from the minute we got to the room. We walked in and they said “you can smell that too right” because it’s just that unbelievable. You’re thinking “I’ve stayed in hostels before, surely its not that bad” its worse its something far more sinister and oppressive than just BO. If your like me, you read a google review where someone complained about the unmade beds and thought “that guys a jerk” but he’s not talking about just the blanket being folded at the end of the bed as is the norm for hostels, he’s talking about the fact that not only is there NO sheets on the bed, they don’t even give you a fitted sheet, you get two top sheets and just sorta have to figure it out. It doesn't last. Not the end of the world but like. Surely if we are buying that many top sheets we can get some fitted ones too right?? Each floor has two toilets, wanna wash your hands? Walk down two flights of steep stairs that are just barely not concrete. They give you slippers but at all times they are attempting to disintegrate into sand asap and leave your feet behind. Luggage storage? Hope you like a bike lock in the kitchen! Theres no shot you can access your luggage within the dorm, or surrounding areas, so surrender to the stairs. But also the place is cheap so you know, country girls make do or whatever.
I highly recommend this capsule hotel for solo travellers! Cheap, amazing location (close to Kizomizu-dera) and the staff are so kind! I accidentally overslept past the check-out time (11pm) but the staff that wanted to clean were very understanding and didn't get angry and even let me use the shower/sink area which are cleaned every day from 11am-3pm. I wish they had a coin exchanging machine because I tried doing my laundry late at night and noone had 100¥ coins to exchange with me so I had to run to the conbini but it was kinda refreshing. There is a 200¥ council tax which is always in cash tho, otherwise everything is as advertised!
Was a good experience here! I was surprised by how clean everything was and I was able to self check in when I arrived at 5am which was cool. The location was awesome with lots of temples nearby which is what I wanted and many great restaurants around. Only thing would be the vibe was a little off. I don’t know if if was the people of the place or maybe people don’t actually talk at hostels but whenever I would try to interact with someone I would kinda just get ignored. Aside from that I would 10/10 recommend!!
For travelling solo in Japan, this hostel is great. The staff were very friendly here and created a great atmosphere to meet people which I felt has been missing from other hostels in Japan I have stayed at. Location is unreal as well - 5 min walk to one of the main attractions (Kiyomezu-dera) and 30 min walk to Gion, the geisha district. You can easily take the 206 bus to and from the station in 10min. Beds were ok, a bit larger than the standard. Washroom facilities were not as clean as expected but usable. I recommend staying here overall!

“Several perks for sure ”
Firstly, I was very pleased with the size of the capsule. One could unpack a suitcase and store away ones things. There is a laundry room, a discount at the coffee shop downstairs for guests. The rooms Air Filter stopped working but one could crack a window open during the day. Most guests were considerate of being as noiseless as possible in the dorms which was great. Unfortunatly enough guests were inconsiderate of leaving the common spaces clean after themselves. The kitchen was pretty well equipped. The WiFi didn't work for me and many others in the dorms. Wed have to step outside into the corridor where a bathroom and lockers were. There was a set of comfy chairs. I stayed over a week and was thrilled at how close many places were, in walking distance. And nice walks through the backstreets and river. You can also leave your bags and come later to check in, or check out and pick them up later. The staff downstairs were very pleasant.
