Everything is good”
Great location, delicious food for breakfast and dinner, clean and spacious women's bathroom, but shared with men. The onsen is also shared, so it might be awkward to use it with strangers. The hotel is within walking distance from Ohara bus station, and less than 500 meters from the train station. We were the only non-Japanese guests during our stay, and we were impressed with the hotel.
A very enjoyable two-night stay”
I stayed in a simple, clean tatami room with good aircon. (Bring an eye mask if you don't want to be woken up by the sun at 5:30 a.m. as there are shoji screens on the windows.) The shared, small bath was also clean. Bathing is not fancy, so don't think you will be getting an onsen experience, but there are all the facilities you need including yukata, a hair straightener and massage chairs! The couple who run the guesthouse are extremely nice. I had booked a double room even though I was a single traveller and the woman was concerned that I was wasting money as there were no cheaper single rooms she could put me in. (In Japan, you usually pay per person unlike per room in Western countries.) Anyway, It wasn't a problem for me as I had made the booking knowing that. However, as I had not booked meals, she very kindly offered to provide dinner and breakfast at no extra cost. That is certainly amazing service! The meals were huge and very good. The affable gentleman who also runs the place was busy serving breakfast at 8 a.m. and still cleaning the baths at 12 am. He certainly works very hard. There are bikes you can borrow to have a look around the area but you can walk to the main attractions in 20 minutes. I was able to leave my bag for a few hours after check out. I live in Japan and was impressed so I'm sure that foreign guests would find the place very charming. I don't think much English was spoken, but it seemed the main messages were being understood between the owners and non-Japanese speaking guests.
Worth the one night stay”
It was an hour long journey from Kyoto Bus Terminal to this quaint Ryokan Inn in Ohara. We had dinner and breakfast here and the food was delicious. The Onsen was relaxing after a day out; it has all the amenities like hair dryer, facial toner/wash, shampoo & conditioner, body wash and moisturiser etc. in our ladies’ room there is even a massage chair:) It is at the door of a mountain and so the air was fresh and crisp. We did the evening walk before dinner and the morning walk before breakfast. The staff were wonderful as they were all family members. They made our stay very comfortable and did everything to make us feel very welcomed and happy. Highly highly recommend this place.
Perfect traditional stay”
We had an amazing stay with our 2 young boys. We were a bit concerned about staying at a traditional Japanese inn with kids, but we were more than welcomed by the very hospitable owners. This was an amazing experience in an absolutely gorgeous farming town. It is surrounded by beautiful trails and cool cafes and shops. The dinner and breakfast were exceptional. Overall a magnificent experience!
A relaxing Ryokan to escape the crowd.”
Hosts were friendly and welcoming. It really felt like we were staying in our relative's house (a nice relative) They were very helpful and even used translation to communicate with us! Food was delicious and reasonably priced. We took breakfast and dinner. Very important as some restaurants don't allow foreigners. Rented bike for free to have a look around Ohara. All necessities are there. Just come to chill and get away from the crowd. Totally worth it. It's near to Ohara bus stop. Strictly 3pm check-in though. Will come back for sure
