Best hotel I've stayed at in Thailand!”

i recently stayed at ruen kaew resort for 2 nights (in early june 2012). the resort is located in sung men, half way between denchai and phrae city. the hotel manager, khun nu, picked me up from the denchai railway station for a small fee. my hotel room was very clean and comfortable, and unbelievably affordable (even by thai standards, let alone western ones). my room had twin beds, and overlooked a pond, the other side of which was a pen for lambs and beyond that, lush green fields without any other properties within the horizon. i had the chance to feed the lambs which was lovely. i had a very relaxing and happy time staying at the resort, which only has about 10 rooms. for a single female traveller, it is importantly also safe. a perfect getaway from the busyness and stress of bangkok (if you are living there)! at the charming little reception area, there are three gorgeous kittens who are very friendly. khun music looks after the reception area, and offers nice cups of jasmine green tea and biscuits, and is very nice to share your stories of the day's travels or sightseeing with. both k. nu and k. music speak some english, which is very helpful for foreigners. the resort is not a 5 star hotel, but in my opinion, it exceeds the 5 star tag because of k. nu in particular. on the day i was due to leave, i got his help in contacting thailand railways to confirm that my train was running as planned. it was not, but k. nu found out that there was an earlier train leaving (within 15 minutes from the time of the phone call). he brought me safely to denchai station (it is about 15 kilometres away from the resort) and exchanged/got a refund on my original train ticket for the new one, which was at the platform ready to depart! my expectations were completely exceeded. i have no hesitation in recommending ruen kaew resort, and only wish it was closer to bangkok, so it could be my regular getaway place!

A Few Kms Outside Phrae”

The Ruen Kaew (Farm and) Resort is actually situated a few kilometres outside of Phrae. To get around you will need to have your own transport because it is a little bit out of the way. We booked through Agoda at around $AUD25 per night, no breakfast. Being animal lovers we quite enjoyed the fact that they had sheep around the back; a couple were allowed to roam around the front of the rooms in the evening. There are also a few cats roaming around the reception area which may be off putting to some people. The resort itself is set up a little like a US motel. Drive into the car park past reception and park your car in front of the room. The room itself was clean, bright and spacious and the bed was very comfortable. There was no safety deposit box or facilities to make tea or coffee (complimentary tea/coffee at reception). Typical Thai wet bathroom; tv was rubbish (poor reception) and WIFI was free but slow. In the surrounding area there was a small supermarket, a swimming pool and a few street food stalls. The buffet restaurant down the road is highly recommended. A bit of a downer was the pond located behind the rooms which did attract mossies. All in all a pleasent enough stay and we would be happy enough to stay here again.

the hotel is small hotel but inside is like private resort. room has fully accessory everything you can find inside room. the owner is very friendly he knows everythig about phrae. the hotel near city and landmarks.

Cute resort,cute view,warm welcome”

Comfortable resort with country side, sheep farm with flied in the back of resort that made us so surprise. We can reach to Phrae and many places around Phare also. The resort far form the hignway only 10metres , very easy to find. It's very value for this price.

Nice little boutique hotel outside Phrae”

Very satisfactory as an escape from city life. The hotel is in small town outside of Phrae ideal if you have own transportation. Would use them again.

Great place for the price!”

This is a really nice guesthouse for a pretty unbeatable price! The only downside was the location, which was 8 km out of town. This is not generally a bad thing, but the staff seemed to have a hard time arranging transport into town for us, even with a Thai speaker in our group. There is a local song taeow driver , who we hired for the day who ended up taking us to several great spots around Phrae- definitely ask the staff about him, he was fantastic!

this was a quick trip for us for some business. i picked this hotel based on the reviews, but the price was very good. we had a double bed with patio, however too many mosquitos for sitting out. it was a clean room with good bathroom. we had no problem with getting hot water for shower. i really liked having a small hotel.

Rural Setting With Goats”

Away from the city noise, this hotel is actually on a goat farm. It is quaint, clean, and the staff are always friendly. You will need your own transportation as the resort is pretty far from town.

Ok, difficult to find”

Just for one day stay through way to Lampang. Nice staff. Hotel is small but inside is like nice and clean resort. room has fully accessory everything you need. the hotel is near the city

Quirky Hotel with Spacious Rooms”

Quirky: has sheep out back. It is kind of hard to find because the sign is not in English. And the place is behind a set of buildings. Don't let that stop you from going. I liked our big, clean room, and the sense of privacy we had with our own patio (two patios).

Nice and helpfull staff. Difficult to find.... (at the back of the street). Very clean and comfortable rooms. Near by good place with food (at the street)... Good for one night stop.

Quiet and hidden place behind the main highway”

Room was clean but equipment rather basic. No breakfast on the premises, only coffee. But there are shops just around the corner on the main steet.

Hidden away, self renovated but clean rooms”

This was a bit difficult to find, off the main road. It was very inexpensive so don't expect modern or new accommodation. However it was clean, bright and the staff were very helpful. Outside is a rickety coffee area, you may need your mosie spray.

Relax, limpio y de diseño”

Estuvimos dos días, el lugar es muy agradable a pesar de estar cerca de la carretera no te enterabas de nada. Lo único negativo es que necesitas coche para ir. Tienes te y café gratis en un entorno fantástico, lo demás lo traes tu. Hay cerca un supermercado. Los restaurantes cercanos son sólo de comida Tailandesa.
