Where to stay in Puttalam District
Puttalam District hotels & accommodations
We stayed here for 2 nights at the beginning of our tour. The staff were amazing and went out of their way to make sure we had everything we needed. We stayed in a deluxe room overlooking the sea, with a huge bath. We were on our honeymoon and the staff had decorated the bed with flowers and hung up little heart decorations. The room was clean, and very nicely decorate...
We were a bit concerened on our short ride from the Marawila town due to the remote location of the hotel, there's hardly a surrounding restaurant - cetainly not any that I would have ventured out to try out at least. Our entrance to the lobby wasnt that spectacular either with the area being quite dull. I can distictly remember my wife saying that she didnt like the l...
Dolphin Beach was the first stop on our 10 day tour of Sri Lanka and we spent 4 amazing nights here. The rooms were beautiful with some great quirky features - only complain I would have is that you cannot lock the tents. Not too much of an issue for us but may be concerning if you had young children or anything super valuable? Dean the manager was very friendly and e...
With few improvements in room facilities and meals the hotel would be a best in Kalpitiya. Staff is so kind and helpful especially the owner and Sanath (good helper) and the two ladies who are doing room service as well as kitchen work. Overall value for money with relaxing experience.
I loved every minute of my time at Bar Reef; it was tranquil, supremely relaxing, and the highlight of my stay in Sri Lanka. The staff was the best I had experienced in a month in Sri Lanka-- very helpful, friendly and also highly professional, attentive to detail, and creating an atmosphere of respect and peace, which allowed me to enjoy the quiet of being in nature. ...
Aarya marked the start of our trip, and the staff takes great care of its guests. We booked the dolphin tour through the resort and it was a beautiful, magical experience. The resort property was beautiful, with 6 rooms that give you a view of the lagoon. The chef was amazingly competent and served us fantastic meals - must-try the garlic butter squid and curry cashe...
The Hotel is located at Marawila Beach away from hustles of City. Place is not for shoppers and Party animals, but its awesome for relaxation and romantic couples. Staff totally exceeded our expectations in every means. Rooms were clean, Pool was cleaned every day. Breakfast was average. Food in general is above average. My wife celebrated her B'Day here. We asked if a...
Fantastic! We had the Best time! It was absolutely amazing everything matched! The description of the hotel the prices the excellent competence of the staff which u find rarely in Sri Lanka! Overall just amazing!
From initial contact to the end our stay at the ibis Wilpattu was excellent, you won’t forget staying here , the food was traditional Local SriLankan very well prepared, the location was peaceful 20mins from the National Park , the hosts & Staff were 1st class & we will definitely go back .
When we arrived the owner was surprised we had a booking, he look at his laptop .oh yes I've upgraded you to a better suite and charged us more than the price on Agoda, the property is either under renovation or is new but is unfinished , there was nothing but a bed in the room and a couple of plastic chairs, there was a door that led out onto a concrete floor with pie...

We found a true gem in Dinuda Resort! We were met by the most genuinely friendly staff. We have traveled around a bit, and the rooms were the cleanest and nicest we had on our trip. Comfortable bed and large bathroom. But the best was the view from the terrace. It has a panorama view to both the lagoon and the ocean! The sunsets are just breathtaking and very romantic...
Newly-established property. (+) Shibi and the team are all very kind and friendly. Food is just outstanding. It is a story of Sri Lankan food culture, colours, textures, and flavours. Beautifully set-up with eco design and furnishing. Shibi is very concerned about the wellness of the guests. She would check if we were comfortable, or if we would need an afternoon...
- Very nice home and rooms - Very clean - Staff was awsome and very gentle - Food is incredible, best curry we tried in Sri Lanka and amazing price - Very windy, and has nothing to do except Kite Surf (perfect location for kite surf) - Close to wilpattu park
the hotel is rather far from puttulam/ kalpitya. very quiet ! a new beach area in development! good for kite surfing!diving etc! the very friendly owner just has started this hotel.my staying in a nice cabana non a/c was nice with some starters problems. ...like cleaning up.power cut!sri lanka's problem! amazing the lovely private shower outside the cabana. the ow...
This guest house is in a potentially lovely location, but the rooms are really basic- equivalent to a $20 guest house. The pool is great, and we enjoyed the complimentary boat trip to the beach. It could be a lovely resort with a little imagination.
Nice people, great location, good food, pleasant atmosphere & fair price. Their website gives a perfectly fair impression of the place. To get there train to puttalam, bus towards kalpitya (ask on the bus to be dropped off, worth printing the address) and short tuk tuk (always waiting) ride from the junction to Diyamba (200/= ish).
Helpful staff although their English is limited. Nice, clean room with AC, everything was a little run down but the price was reasonable. I had a good stay. Beachfront property.
Helpful staff and a clean, practical room. A great cafe just 3mins walk away -Sri Ram. Not at all touristy :)
before coming here, i had booking in the sea garden hotel. after the shock i've experienced in that one, c & i beach hotel was for me like a deep breath with clean oxygen. this place is really amazing!!! from the first step i’ve understood that is the place i want to stay. the entrance was so welcoming; the nature outside the hotel, the room was like arranged speciall...
We stayed one night at Chilaw City Hotel on our journey North from Negombo. We were the only guests; the main business of the hotel seems to be hosting weddings and parties. Our room was plain with bed, wardrobe and dressing table. The staff were fiendly. The food was fresh but not special. The hotel has a great swimming pool which was very welcome after a hot moto...
I initially planned on staying one week at the Sanmali resort as my first stop in Sri Lanka, but enjoyed it so much I added another week The staff was so friendly & accommodating it was easy to feel like I lived there. The pictures fail to do the sunset justice, I would (in fact, will) stay there again. However, some notes for the potential visitor: -The Wi-Fi is hi...
we had a wonderfull time at divyaa lagoon, it was the best hotel in the lagoon, super clean and beautiful, nice pool, quiet and nice breakfast
We were amazed by friendly, multilingual and attentive hosts. Owner Upul, Venoja (sorry if miss-spelled) and all the staff of that place made us feel like a part of the family. We have arrived at 4:00 AM and were met by owner, ate delicious breakfast and were placed in the cool and clean room in meter of minutes. Later that day we have seen fishermen pooling their net...
Elements is a litlle gem and a pradise for kitesurfer. I was travelling with wife and baby and i was looking for a place where they could have fun while i am kiteboarding. Elements brought more than that! Staff are super friendly, the bungalow deserve more than a 3 stars, the pool is amazing with a superb view of the lagoon, direct access to a private beach (kite spot)...
Overall we were very happy with our stay at St Annes Lagoon House but there was some issues. Our room was fantastic. Lovely bed, outdoor bathroom and lounge room. The issues with the room were little hot water, the blinds provided no privacy, and all towels reeked of mothballs. The White Room which we had (which appeared to be the best by far) also opened up onto the p...
We arrived from the train station in Puttalam, 15Km away, by tuk-tuk Rp650 and were very impressed with the first impressions of this resort. Apparently it only opened 8 months ago. The open air restaurant, with a large roof was quite unique. There are only 8 rooms, 4 chalets (with ac) and 4 cabanas. We stayed in a chalet, which was quite comfortable, but sparsely furn...
I was very disappointed by my stay here. The staff were very rude. One member lied about the bus times to avoid having to make my breakfast at 7.30 (breakfast was over-priced, and I had already paid for it). I was under time pressure to get a bus to take me to the airport, and the staff rudely demanded payment for a drink they had forgotten to add to my bill two days p...
Didn't really like it here. Wasn't made to feel welcome. Fan in room was very noisy and didn't keep it cool
I've stayed in many hotels of various star quality but I've never experienced such amazing service and adventure. Firstly, we got in a boat and were taken to the island with our belongings. We then got into a tractor to take us through the rugged terrain (beach tracks) to the resort. I was with a few older couples who also thoroughly enjoyed the experience but I imag...
Cheap places to stay in Puttalam District
Host is fantastic. Very pleasant wife and two kids. Honest people. Best for families or groups of friends. There is cooking facilities. Room is clean and so is bathroom. Simple living and that’s all you need in Kalpitiya.

We stayed at the camp for 4 nights and were accommodated in the tent as all cabanas were booked. We have a high demands, and admitted to try staying at the camp only after reading reviews in the Internet, and till the last moment on the road to the camp I was not sure that my girlfriend agreed to stay there. And I have to say that the place exceeded our expectations. ...

The room condition is fare and the hotel owner is really nice as well as helpful. The hotel is really quiets and have a lovely dog. But it's located in the jungle and it's hard to buy anything nearby so I recommend to buy all the things in Puttalam. Kalpitiya is a totally different area compare to Bentota. I would like to go there again
Helpful staff and a clean, practical room. A great cafe just 3mins walk away -Sri Ram. Not at all touristy :)
it was a very nice place. Very friendly helpful nice people running the place. If like it relaxed and natural you will like it. The food was delicious. the beach is beautiful surrounded by a lagune. unfortunately the beaches a filled with a lot of rubbish. I was diving there. very nice. i will come back.
Helpful staff although their English is limited. Nice, clean room with AC, everything was a little run down but the price was reasonable. I had a good stay. Beachfront property.
We enjoyed our stay in this small but very clean guest house run by a lovely couple. Breakfast was different every morning, the rooms quiet and very clean. The location was excellent for the town and a 30 minute walk to a beautiful beach.
This was the most amazing place I stayed in Sri Lanka and one of the best places I've stayed in all of my travels. Its rustic - limited electricity from a generator and solar lights, no ac, open air showers and cabanas. Its perfect to get away from everything and just relax. If you are a kitesurfer then you know the location already but as someone who does not kitesurf...
Location is really chilled and the bar/ restaurant area is a great place to hang out after a hard day of activities. They have a new chef and the food is delicious (especially the cuttle fish). Staff are super friendly and flexible at this hotel. Recommend bringing a plug in mosquito repellent even with the net.

We had a fantastic stay in Sandy Edge. The host was very kind, and the food was fabulous! We loved the dog Adam, and his little friend. We really can recommend this place
Got here and was welcome straight away. Any info you need on things to do, places to go and where to eat your sorted here. We arrived for 3 weeks of kiteboarding and it was a great experience. The rooms are clean and tidy. A fan at night kept us cool and during the day opening the shutters would let in the fresh breeze. The bathroom was also nice and clean. Breakf...

The chalet and other bungalows are perfect and spacious. The room has nice comfy bed and we even had hot shower:-). The space is spacious too, it has gardens and hammock and balcony. I think the best about Margarita is the friendly owner and helpful staff.

Bedrock Bungalows is awesome! The views from the rooms are unique and beautiful. On one side you have sand dunes and on the other you're looking across the water. Some of the rooms have jacuzzis and all the showers are big and modern. The food was out of this world! A feast just for one person. Beautifully cooked and put together and served with a smile from a lovely w...
We had a very relaxing time in a beautiful cabana. The staff members were exceptionally friendly and helpful. Location superb. Would love to visit again. Per and Åsa from Sweden

Pros: Mr. Solomon himself is very attentive and friendly to guest and mind you they don't even charge for bottomless coffee. It's a quiet family hotel with few rooms thus stay is really peaceful. Acceptable breakfast, a welcome drinks. Cons: There's drought, so shower is slightly salty and it's cold. Expected it as a beach house but it's not, needs to cross the street ...
This is the best accomodation in Kalpitiya area if you have a car. Friendly owners, nice service and comfortable rooms.

The owner's intentions are commendable. He is trying to create a high end resort that is in tune with nature. My husband and I experienced this sort of accommodation with a safari in Africa organized by CC Africa. The villas blended in with nature, but were insect and bug proof. However at Dutch Bay Resort, because the bathroom is open to nature, lizards and insects g...
There are just 3 tents which are definitely for 'glamping'. This is not roughing it in any sense of the word. There is not much to do here except for a few trips out in a boat and a more substantial, but unmissable, trip to see the dolphins. You can walk from the tents to the village a couple of km away.... if you can be bothered. This is a place to chill. The food...
Had a 3 night stay here on the way to Jaffna. Lovely position on Lagoon side, beautiful sunsets. Good stopping point for transit or to visit wildlife, culture or just enjoy quiet time. I had a room with en-suite but I think some rooms have shared bathroom. The place was spotless. An oasis of calm. I cannot praise all the staff enough for their care and attention. Altho...
