We stayed at Jetwing Lake for four nights and were super happy with the level of service from the Staff. Personally we do not enjoy hotels in general and are more fun if holiday rentals. However the staff make all the difference for a five star hotel. They were super helpful and we even had a nice chat with bar people, reception staff,. They accommodated breakfast to b...

We stayed for a night in order to go up Sigiriya very early in the morning, which it was perfect for as literally around the corner. Also right next to a whole strip of restaurants which was very convenient. It's beautifully decorated in colonial style. We booked it as was much cheaper than some other hotels in the area but honestly don't know why as really was lovely!...

Signature = (luxury?) part of Amaya Lake. Fantastic room (for 3 persons, incl teenage daughter), in splendid gardens at lakeside, with plenty of birds & some small wildlife. Nice pools : 1 big (Amaya Lake?) and 1 a bit calmer (Signature?) Nice main restaurant (buffet), and also a very romantic (Signature side?) à la carte at poolside (with stars in the sky & in the poo...

Stayed for 3 nights in April during Sinhalese new year. Beautiful location and super friendly staff. Specially would like to mention Dhanuska who was based in restaurant. Breakfast was good and the hotel did a good job to manage during festive season. Even had a special table with new year foods. Also they let you use the pool til 9pm which is a plus point. Pool side...

Although the place is quite expensive, it is just amazing!!! no wonder it is almost always booked. We booked the romantic chalet and it is just breath taking. The whole room is made of glass with a private dipping pool and complete privacy. This is ideal for a romantic getaway (If price is not the factor for you) Agoda gives the best price for booking at this retrea...

After staying in a lot of budget accommodation on Sri Lanka this hotel was a welcome luxury. The pool was huge and our children enjoyed it very much. Head of Food and Beverage had outstanding customer service and made us feel so welcome. We ended up staying an extra day. Only criticism is that the room wasn’t serviced daily and supplies of coffee, toilet paper, etc. we...

i have been living in sri lanka for about 6 months and a friend came to visit. during his stay, we did some traveling around the country. our last two nights were spent at the jetwing vil uyana. i had booked a "standard" room, which is different from the bungalow type rooms that are more common on the premises (and more expensive). our "standard" room was a great value...

the elephant corridor is a unique and amazing hotel. the rooms are individual bungalows that are well furnished and appointed, each with high ceilings, huge windows and a private drop-in pool. the hotel sits on 200 acres of nature preserved, with walking paths and facilities that nestle nicely into the surroundings. the hotel is set back from the road, so getting in an...

We made a mistake and booked our accommodation for March and not Feb - they could not have been more accommodating. They were closed for the night (all the main staff had gone home) however they were really generous and opened it up for us. The place itself is magical, in the evening the sound of insects and animals is deafening... in a great way. The outdoor bathroom ...

The little resort is a nicely maintained paradise with ecological background. It consists of several high level bungalows in a large garden, which are cleaned twice a day and give you a homely jungle feeling. There are many animals (wild monkeys, birds, lizards, peacocks, chickens, etc...) and the casual elefant (once a year (,-)) coming by in front of your terrace or ...

Modern hotel, super clean and within minutes from Lion's Rock. Close to some shops and restaurants. Great food both at breakfast and dinner. Staff at reception is kind but need to be more proactive at giving info and assisting customers, as we inquired about doing a safari nearby and they did not help to book it. The hotel does not have WiFi in the rooms, so you can o...

The hotel is in very nice location next to the Giritale lake surrounded by natural beauty. Most of the rooms have been recently re-furbished and others are currently being re-furbished. The room we had was facing the lake, was very spacious and included outdoor area. The 5 course dinner at the restaurant was extremely well presented in fine dining style, much better th...

Garden look, great location, well maintained, and the natural feel you would like to have. We really enjoyed our stay here for the excellent rooms, room service, spaciousness, and above all the personalized service that the management gave us. You know that you that the resort is serious about customer service and customer experience when the general manager himself ge...

We stayed in Cassandra for 3 nights and had the most fantastic experience due to the excellence of the staff of the hotel. In particular, the main manager, Shihan, could not do enough for us - nothing was too much trouble! He gave us great insight about the local area, best ways to see everything nearby in the most cost effective way as well as him allowing us to be sh...

If you're after some peace and quiet and to enjoy the tranquility of nature, look not further. The villas are separated from one another which gives you the feeling of complete seclusion. I had the two-storey villa which had a balcony on the second floor with a view of the lake which was great to wake up to. Kumar and his team are incredibly friendly (as were most peop...

All tho we had a pleasant enough stay this place is not for everyone. We had a trouble finding it and couldn't ring for directions as agoda didn't provide us with the phone number of the property. Location is quite remote so it depends what are you looking for. Rooms are spacious, unique and clean however I found them bit too dark. Pool area was bit too shady for my li...

If you want to enjoy sights like sigiriya, dambulla or polonnaruwa, but without the hustle - Rice villa is the place to be. Very nicely situated in a rice field, you can enjoy nature and tranquility. One of the nicest places we have staying in Sri Lanka. The hotel is a 10/15 min walk from the town, but there is a 5min shortcut to the bus station. Hotel offers free transport into town, (if you don't want to eat dinner in the hotel) and to the Dambulla Caves. Breakfast is great and so was dinner. Rooms very clean. Staff are very friendly and advise on local attractio...
Cheap places to stay in Matale District

We stayed there for 4 nights and it was awesome! It is the type of place when you start your vacations and meet people that make you change all your itininary for the best. So it is a great place to meet new people! They offer the breakfast for 300rps and the dîner for 500 rps and it is always good (1/2 the time sri lankan food). The hosts are really nice too and are ...

We did not end up staying here but that was only because there was no air conditioning. The rooms were clean and we had no problem with the hotel other than that there was no air con. It is a little remote but this made it very quiet. Ordinarily we would be very happy to stay here. The manager was very friendly and very helpfull.

I'm a permanent traveller, 3 years on the road, I have seen some guesthouses, and this one is reeeeally good. It's a room with private entrance and private bathroom in the family house. Vee is very friendly, helpful and accomodating, the room is nice and cool, no aircon needed, has beautiful decor, perfect condition, and the bed is so comfy, I would put it in the top 5...

Close enough to the rock that you can walk there and walk to restaurants if you feel like a bit of a stroll from the busy or just a cheap tuk away. Not much to do on the town but there is a museum that looked interesting. Friendly owners and an even friendlier dairy owner just down the road 1min before the homestay. Make sure you pop in and see him and ask about his ...

We stay in this lovely place for two nights. The family of three was the best host that we had on our trip. We also had dinner and breakfast here. The food was delicious. With the owner, we arrange the excursion to the lion rock Sygiria and Polanoruwa. He was really nice driver. We are glad that we met and stayed with this family for two days. Totally recommend this pl...

Nice little home stay with a couple of rooms. The family try very hard to make us happy and help us. Good food, cheap laundary. Gave us a ride to bus stop in Dambulla in the evening and made sure we got on the right bus - so sweet. Only negative thing is the boat ride to "pleasure Island", it was nothing to see. A small beach in the shade. Better swim at the little b...

Great experience! We came there with a sprained ankle. First the nephew took care of it using singhale medicine, then a neighbour helped to reduce the swelling. The day after the owner helped again with singhale medicine. The little daughter kept askng whether the ankle was getting better. The nephew helped us getting up the nearby rock for free including Infos like a...

We were a group of 3 who had a great time in Sigiriya and the owners of the Kashyapa Kingdom View made sure that was possible. When we arrived we were shown to our basic, but spacious room, which was clean and everything you hope a guesthouse room to be. The owners were attentive but not pushy and offered us advice on what we could do and things we could see to make t...

My friend Molly and I shared a room at Agoda and it was one of my favorite memories in Sri Lanka. Karu and the rest of the hosts (an amazing family) were extremely accommodating and will arrange transport and cook you the best curry you will have in Sri Lanka. We spent two hours playing with their two young sons, who are adorable. The homestay is also in an extremely c...

Pathmi and her family are welcoming and caring, and provide an excellent room with amazing food everyday. I was made to feel at home and got on with the kids quickly so much so that they went to the Rock with me. I absolutely love this family and it was difficult to say goodbye after only 4 days! My 4 days were perfect in every sense. I visited all the sites I wanted t...

the owner and the manager are really nice people trying to help you with every need you may have! my cousin was sick and they took good care of us, perpared special tee for her for free and so on. Fab experience. Family run rooms on side of family house. Best way to stay and visit Sigiriya, would thoroughly recommend. True Sri Lanka experience with a lovely family. Being looked after and brought tea and tuk tuk lifts made a lovely stay perfect. Would thoroughly recommend. Check location on map before arriving....

A very nice facility in the middle of a forest by not so far from the main road. We got a tent for our family and it was very nice to spend the night in the middle of the wilderness. The owners and the volunteers were very nice and helpful. Though it was for young backpacker travellers but we booked on purpose for our family with teenage kids for adventure and it came ...

We spent a nice time in nihal's homestay. His wife was a very good cooker when they proposed us to prépare the dinner on site (count 700Rps each). The homestay can be difficult to find, it is located on the left side of the road when you come from Dambula, just before the Royal Retreat Hostel. Furthermore no message on site. We really recommend this address.

The location is not the best but still walking distance to restaurant and bus station but the family is very friendly and helpful. They took us to Lion's rock with tuk tuk cause it's very close. Great breakfast-pancakes! And they took us to bus station even thought it is very close and wait with us for the wright bus to Dambulla. We recommend it!!

As soon as I arrived the staff were extremely accommodating and nice. When I arrived the towns water had been cut off - this was the whole town, not just theirs. They organised a large basin to wash and said we could have what ever drinks we liked for free and were very apologetic. They have a TukTuk driver associated which was a good price and did very cheap tours. I ...

We had a great 2 night stay. The room was very clean and nicely decorated. The family was very welcoming and helpful. They made us feel at home. The owner has a Tuk Tuk and drove us at 5 in the morning to Pidurangala for the sunrise hike. Also we had a delicious dinner there one of the nights. We would recommend their place! The location was slightly different from A...

The familiy is so nice and helpfull. They arranged safari tour, drove us around and made dinner and breakfast. Both were deliocious and a lot of food!! They really did everything to make our stay the best. The location is okey. Good place to start the hike to the rocks 15 min) , if not you can just rent a tuktuk. Thank you so much. We really recommend this place!!

the pelwehara village consists of a number of good sized, clean and comfortable en suite rooms, each with a private terrace area looking on to beautiful, well tended and designed gardens. the staff are very attentive, helpful and welcoming. well prepared food is to be found in a large, airy dining area and is buffet style, with a wide range to suit most tastes. the ...

We pre-booked a room with an extra bed but they have not noted it. The hotel was full with two big groups. So they could give us only a mattress instead of an extra bed. The hotel is quite old, 1970s kind. It had been a national holiday resort but now managed by a private company. The whole layout was bit old fashioned but the view from the back lobby was stunning. It ...

Several positives, such as friendly and very helpful staff, good pool and very good evening meals (breakfast buffet was fairly good but rather cold). However, the address provided by Agoda was inaccurate (stating 'Sigiriya City' when in fact close to Habarana). This was compounded by the phone number provided not working, all of which led to a much longer and more expe...

hospitality at its very best. central location next to golden temple in dambulla. nice, very clean rooms with cold and hot water. extraordinary friendly and helpful owner and staff - many five star hotels in europe could learn from the service-oriented mentality here: they have eyes for every detail (e.g. when it was raining, we were picked up at our room with umbrella...

Hotel is surrounded with greenery and close to nature. The restaurant front is the swimming pool where we could relax beside the pool for a tea or meal. The restaurant serve fantastic food with very wide range of buffet varieties and its value for money. The Spa was amazing and value for money with professional service. Hotel is just 20 minutes to Lion Rock ,Village vi...

we stayed at 5 different hotels throughout our 10-day vacation across sri lanka, all of which were equivalent to 4-5 star establishments. without a doubt, lake lodge boutique hotel, kandalama is the utmost best we stayed at, based on top notch services rendered, food & beverage quality, guestroom comfort & amenities, as well as its ideal location - offering tranquility...

This place was so quiet and beautiful. The owner does everything and is an incredible chef. He is super friendly and will go out of his way to help you. He needs more staff because there is very little information for you there, so bring a lonely planet book. Wifi works great and so do the outdoor showers. I will definitely return here. about a 15 minute motorbike ren...

We stayed for 5 nights at Athenlake and throughly enjoyed the experience. A beautiful pool on a lakeside setting is a great cool down on a Sri Lankan afternoon especially if nature grants you a spectacular sunset. The hotel is an easy tuk tuk away from dinners (if you want to eat out) and the wonderful sites in the area. The village is so friendly to walk around I comp...

Decent place. Place is run by a local family. The place is hard to find and is in the middle of town. They have three bedrooms. They are building more rooms. It's definitely a family affair. I would recommend the place. Keep in mind this is not your regular hotel with pool, spa, etc. However, it is very authentic and done with taste. The food was very good local food. ...

Great Staff. Great Location. Buffet Breakfast was great. There were 2 nice pools. Rooms were located a little further away from the Reception area. Therefore, could not use the WIFI from the room. This caused a lot of inconveniences as we have to walk a bit if we wanted to use the WiFi services. The Bathroom required a curtain as the water got into the wash area. Booke...

If there’s a way to give more marks I would certainly do that as Shan Inn was a paid home away from home. Nice comfortable rooms and clean. Food was really really tasty just like my mom’s cooking. I have been to many hotels guest houses but Shan Inn was the best out of those. They make us comfortable than a 5 star hotel. We never felt like we are in a hotel. Service gi...

We originally booked for 3 nights, but stayed for 4 it was so good. Fantastic Sri Lankan breakfast, different every day. We also had dinner 3 nights, which was even better and tremendous value. Best food of our trip so far. Our hosts were brilliantly friendly and helpful. Helped with bus directions on all our day trips. The location is nice and quiet, but just 200m fro...

We had a very pleasant stay, staff made every effort to make us at home including a tour around the premises. The rooms were gigantic and very clean. Only negative point is the access road - very bad due to the heavy rains, definitely needs attention but did not spoil our stay in anyway !

Jayakumera & Priya (the Sri Lankan managers) made our stay at Strathisla Tea Estate an unforgettable one. Their personalised service, incredible Sri Lankan home cooking & wealth of knowledge of the area made us appreciate this place so much more. The rooms could certianly use an upgrade - we felt they were below our expectations for the price we were paying. The room w...

I did not expected such a nice cottage style hotel in Sri Lanka. Guest can keep peaceful privacy. I felt like staying own second house in Sri Lanka.
