Where to stay in Badulla District
Badulla District hotels & accommodations

We spent 2.5 weeks travelling around Sri Lanka and stayed in everything from basic hotels to 5 star resorts and Misty Hills was the real surprise. Best value for money of any of the hotels. The photos on their or Agoda's website doesn't do the rooms or the view justice. The views are spectacular. They were in the process of finishing renovations - for the better. The r...

We stayed 2 nights end of March and had a wonderful time. The forest pavilion is just lovely and had a large thick mosquito net over the bed if you are scared of insects at night. The swimming pool area is charming and very calm. The hotel is located a short walk from Diyaluma waterfall and its own private waterfall. Very relaxing stay with great staff and food, a litt...

Great hotel and welcoming staff who were always on hand to help out with booking or recommending activities, giving directions and sorting out transport. Close to centre of town and restaurants if you want to eat out but you can also eat in hotel restaurant/bar. Lovely pool, spa and accommodation; particularly enjoyed relaxing in the hammocks on our balcony.

Its a fairly new hotel, so it's very clean and well maintained. the owners are very friendly and helpful. Totally value for money and an awesome location coz its easy to get to all the attractions around ella from the hote and also walking distance to most of the popular eateries. Highly recommended.

THE LOCATION OF THIS HOTEL IS EXCELLENT AS IT OVERLOOKS A WATERFALL. THE STAFF AND THE FOOD ARE EXCELLENT. EVERYBODY GREETED US WITH AN EVERLASTING SMILE ON THEIR FACE. MY SON HAD FALLEN ILL AND THE AMOUNT OF CARE AND COOPERATION THAT I GOT FROM EVERYBODY IS WORTH MENTIONING. THIS IS THE BEST HOTEL THAT I HAVE EVER STAYED DURING MY STAY AT SRI LANKA.

The staff are very helpful , just ask them and they are there for you . Mr. Ash at the reception is just an amazing young guy who enjoy to help you . The location of the hotel is 100% perfect . On the main road where all the restaurants and bars exist . If you can afford the price than I advise you that you will not find a better hotel than this one . The perfect selec...

Quirky rooms and decor throughout the hotel - everything is unique and individual to the room / floor. The staff were lovely and really helpful, especially the housekeeping guys. Views of Little Adam's Peak were amazing. Rooms were clean, comfortable and spacious. Unfortunately the Tv's in the room didn't work and wifi was sketchy at best - but we didn't go there to wa...

Please note this hotel is in Haputale about 2 hours from Nuwara Eliya. This resort is in the mountains away from almost everything. There are tons of monkeys that play in the natural waterbeds later in the day. We watched them for about an hour. It was so cool to see. If you are looking for relaxing, peaceful atmosphere where the staff is willing to do whatever to make...

The hosts/owners were so friendly and helpful. They made our stay and our experience of Sri Lanka very special. The resort is walking distance from both the 9-arch bridge and Little Adam's Peak. It's a 1km nice walk or a tuk tuk ride into Ella. A very natual and generally peaceful place (just some traffic noise). Surrounded by trees and we even saw small and large squ...

Even though it is a very simple accomodation the view would be the best in Ella and we had our on private balcony which was great to sit out on at look at views. It was easily accessible and close to town.Staff friendly .The only negative there was no choice for food and you got bottled water on first day and had to ask for room to be done

Great location for views / peace and quiet. Great staff, Poor restaurant The rooms here are REALLY nice, especially if you get an Agoda discount. The mountain views from this place are amazing. And you can walk from the hotel to little Adam's point, a zipline company and the 9 arches bridge. The room was clean and very modern with good a/c and wifi. Staff are extreme...

I and my wife were there for 2 nights on out honeymoon and loved the place! The location and the view was breathtaking! Only negative fact was that the air-con was not working due to some power problem. However, since its not that warm and very windy we did not feel it too much. It is a bit out of the way and the road to the location is broken which also adds to the ad...

I had a fantastic time at Ella's Edge Resort. I was traveling alone and the staff did all they could to make sure I was comfortable. Everyone was extremely nice and the food was amazing. The cook at the hotel is named Amarawonsc and he makes an excellent curry that changes each day. The kitchen is out in the open and you can peer over the edge and watch to see how they...

What amazing view from this hotel! We had the top floor room as we had read up on the hotel and people said the top was the best and they weren't wrong. The staff were incredible. They arranged a tour guide to take us up Ellas rock and even booked us a taxi for our travels down to Yala! The breakfast was amazing the only downside to it was the bed sheets need renewing ...

The resort is well placed for a chilled out break set within a Tea Plantation and lovely views, an interesting 15 minute walk into main street Ella (Tuk Tuk available for around 300 SLR). The staff are helpful and diligent and a special mention to the owner Rowan who far exceeded any service level to date, he runs the resort with passion and is genuinely a 'nice guy'. ...

We had wonderful stay at this budget hotel. Rooms are spacious and comfortable, with spectacular views. On top the owner himself make sure u have good stay. Hotel cannot be reached on own car or taxi, as it's inside mountain with narrow road. How ever this is not an issue but advantage since it add to location of hotel which is inside the green mountains. You just need...

Absolutely loved our stay here for three nights which was perfect amount of time in Ella. After reading other reviews We booked the double room with mountain view which is at the front right of property. Definitely the best room as it is has both best privacy and best views. Most others have good views also except maybe the two nearest the road. Location is great, far...

Hotel was charming, surrounded by a lovely garden, perched on a hill in the city center. Not a modern five star. Rather a quirky heritage hotel. Wifi only really worked in the lobby and restaurant, but there was a beautiful Christmas tree, couches, fireplace. There as well as a fireplace in the .charming bar. The room key is about 4 “ long and brass. Service wa...

From the moment we arrived, we were made to feel welcomed. Nandana, the manager greeted us & took us to our room & made sure we had what we needed. We were enchanted by the amazing view of Ella from our room! Wow, spectacular view! The room was large, clean, & comfortable. It had a sitting area & balcony with chairs to sit & enjoy the view. Needless to say, we slept we...

Great location, just outside of Ella town. The family make you feel welcome straight away. Offering help with places to visit, and offer a great different local breakfast every morning. The room was lovely and had a beautiful view of Adams peak and their very own waterfall. This place for us, made Ella such a lovely visit. Will want to return there again.

We totally fell in love with this place the moment we stepped foot here. The views are incredible. The rooms are huge with balconies that overlook the tea plantations and mountains. It’s right next to the trail up to Little Adam’s Peak, which we did at sunrise. We also rented bikes from the resort and went cycling around the tea plantations and down to Nine Arches brid...

We thought this is one of the best places we stayed at during our tour around Sri Lanka. The place is a bit difficult to get to (as it is uphill and a fair distance from the town center) but it is still walkable and the view more then makes up for it! Great clean facilities with fast wifi. Absolutely superb breakfast. The staff are also friendly and helpful. We highly ...

This homestay is perfect in location, high up The in the hill looking down to breath taking view. The host Lilu has also added the charm to our stay. She provided us with the best curry dinner we had in our 2 weeks traveling Sri Lanka. The homestay is a short walking distance from Ella train station and town. We walked many times a day along the train track, then onto...
Cheap places to stay in Badulla District

we originally booked for one night here but stayed for longer due to it being a wonderful experience. The owner and staff were so friendly and attentive to our needs. So helpful with telling us all we needed to know about going for a trip to liptons factory and plantation. The home cooked food here was nothing short of amazing!! it was a real treat to have authenti...

Very attentive staff who cooked delicious food and even packed us a free breakfast for our trip to Hortons Plains, having to get up at 4:30 to do this! The room had a balcony with a great view of the landscape, and location was good and easy to find from train station. Booked a Hortons Plains trip and shared a car with other travellers from the guesthouse which made it...

The hostel is quite isolated from the city, but nothing that you cannot walk. Unless you also take holidays from staying bait healthy and wanna move around with overpriced, mafia-controlled tuk tuks. It is around 30-40 minutes walking to the city of Ella, but it is also walking distance to Little Adam's Peak and 9 Arch Bridge... or 7 Arch... anyways famous bridge. Ther...

The 3 guys that run this place are really nice, always smiling and ready to help. The food was the best sri lankan food we had so far. Large bedroom with balcony and a view on mountains. Quiet location, little bit far from the center, but they arranged tuktuk rides easily. Only problem was when we left, we had already pay and they said we didn't, but now that's the boo...

They don't seem to realise they advertise on Agoda, the staff insisted they are only on booking.com but since they had free rooms they let us stay. The room was spacious, clean and so was the bathroom. There was a constant draft even though we closed all windows and during the night it got uncomfortably cold. WiFi was slow and only available in the common room.

The guest house was located approx 2km away from the Ella city which is convenient if ur traveling by a car or bike. Place was definitely worth the money and can accommodate up to 4 people at once. If ur traveling by a car, parking would be bit of a process since the house is located in a small hill and u have to bring the vehicle up carefully. Bikes and hatchback ca...

I strongly reccomend to stay at Rosenka Inn, Jagath and his family have been the best guests in my entire stay around Sri Lanka. First mention for the food that Jagath's wife prepares, really traditional but light and absolutely delicious (dinner, lunch, breakfast). Located just outside Haputale (where there is nothing to see particularly), the rooms are very clean an...

We loved our stay here! I was pleasantly surprised by the size and comfort level of the room and bathroom for the price. Please bear in mind this is not a hotel but more like an inn or homestay, run by the family. Their house is separate so it is private. Quite a new building and everything was spotlessly clean and comfortable. No AC or fan, but the cooler night air ma...

Although Ella South Star was quite deep inside the village, it was quite difficult to locate at night, we had to get the Staff to stand by the roadside. Overall the room was clean & we were provided with excellent home breakfast. The Staff was very cordial and the service was more than satisfactory. The morning view from the room was indeed very beautiful.

The owner waited for us on the railway station and took us to the house for free. There is a beautiful view from the house. It is located in a quiet part of town in the street to the Adisham Monastery (about 20 min by walk), only a few houses in neighborhood and near some tea plantations. There is lukewarm water but low pressure. Breakfast (bread & jam) is almost the ...

This place is a must. Ella Valley will stay with you forever. I guarantee thst. The views are exceptional, rooms are clean and comfortable, hospitality is 100% and breakfast are huge and very tasty. Coffee is also very good. just stay here and find out for yourself. My best stay in Sri Lanka.

the room is right next to the dinning area, so u dont get much privacy. but you do have a curtain to cover is all, so not a big issue. bathroom is very clean. no hot water but weather was hot. room was clean, comfy beds. breakfast was ok but no commumication between staff and travelers. the only time we talked was that, we asked us to pay the room and check out when we...

The view here made our stay. The host lady was very polite and made us a lovely dinner one evening. But above all we just loved sitting on the table outside the room staring into the trees and the waterfall beyond. We saw peacocks, monkeys, woodpeckers and lots more in the trees. The beds were comfy with good mozzie nets. Warm shower too. The internet worked ok but we ...

After arriving by train from Kandy the welcoming at New Bleu Home was very friendly. We had a very nice decorated room and bathroom. We stayed for 2 nights. Breakfast was almost to much every morning. We climb Litlle Adams Peak and vist one of the waterfalls. If you take a TukTuk to see things, be sure about the price and what you wanna see! Last but not least; have yo...

If you’re looking to escape the hustle and bustle of Ella city then look no further. Chika’s family and guesthouse was exactly what we needed, a place to stay in the hilltops of Ella away from the noise. You get a gorgeous view of Ella rock and sun rise from the terrace. Chika was very attentive but never overbearing. Coffee and tea always offered. Breakfast and dinner...

There is a kid speaking fluent English which impressed me most. The whole family is very helpful! Quite place. I woke up with a fantastic sun rise view out of the window. Shower with hot water is very nice. On the road back to the hostel, U will see a clear sky with tons of shining star at night. Big surprise! Highly recommended!

We read the past review and should have listened! The place was dirty. The sheets had blood stains on them. There was no breakfast. They started drilling above our hotel room before 8.39am! We arrived at 11pm and left at 8am so we just had to put up with it but there are other hotels nearer to the station and I would recommend looking elsewhere even though this one is...

This is seriously the most beautiful family I had the pleasure of staying with during my stay in Sri Lanka. They made tea for me when i arrived and made me feel so welcome. I felt very safe as a solo traveller and everything you need is al so close. I got sick when i arrived (from a previous place) & was shown the most kindess, they went out of their way for me. I ende...

The room was beautiful, spacious and very clean. Exceptional value for the price! Sanjeewa and Mananthika were both friendly, welcoming and couldn't do enough to help. Sanjeewa helped carry our bags up and down the hill and even gave us a free lift down to the main street in his tuk-tuk on our first evening there. They both often asked about our daily plans, and offere...

This place is a quite and peaceful home about 2 clicks from Ella station by road. You can walk to Ella station along the tracks from here or take another route that goes along the nine arch bridge. It’s a family place. Very polite and helpful in all matters. It’s a home away from home. The mornings and evenings are fantastic. The view from rooms is stunning. Most of t...

The location of this homestay is a 10/10. Just a one minute walk to all the restaurants on the main street but still tucked away a little bit. The rooms are clean and shower has a good water pressure (and is hot). From the balcony, one can enjoy beautiful views. Would stay here again!

The room was lovely and had a beautiful view of Adams peak and their very own waterfall. This place for us, made Ella such a lovely visit. Will want to return there again.

The host was lovely and we were greeted with tea and biscuits too. Its located 7min walk from centre so great for drinks and walking back. Also a cut through to train track for ella rock walk. The room is facing away from the sun so although no aircon the fan us enough as it doesnt get hot. It is close to a garage dump. On the very odd occasion you get the odd smell...

I cannot do anything but applaud the staff for their hospitality, especially as they drove from the hotel and delivered my passport to me as the train was leaving the station. Thank you guys! They were also very considerate and helpful during our stay. The place has so much potential, but right now they are pricing themselves too high. The food was OK, no more no le...

We are very happy to have chosen Emerald Mirror. The happy and friendly couple Komari and Yaba who run it was very warm and helpful. The place is on a hill but Yaba pick you up at the station and when leaving he took us to the bus station and arranged everything. He also gave us a great tour to waterfalls and accompanied us all the way till the top of the mountain. Ko...

This hotel is a little gem. It's a little bit of heaven in Ella. The attention to detail in the room was amazing. The views are out of this world and the breakfast was fantastic. Sanjee was so welcoming and made sure we had everything we needed. I would have no hesitation recommending this jewel of a place to anyone. I would say it is uphill from town along the railway...
We had a really good time and were well looked after by the superb staff. Our room had sweeping views down the valley and towards Ella town. The hotel is reached by a steep and narrow road which means that it is away from the traffic but still within walking distance of the railway station and the town.

Located just behind the main street and a few hundred metres from the station this recently built guest house is really well located. The owners were distracted by the imminent birth of their first child so we were warmly greeted and attended to by his delightful parents who were standing in. The room (room 5) was near the top of the house so two flights of stairs but...

Our hosts, Princy and Wilfried showed us what hospitality means! What a great stay. This was by far the best accommodation during our three week Sri Lankan tour. Wilfried told us many stories behind all the impressive antiques and architecture that this B&B encompasses. The room we stayed in had a great view and best of all had such unique design and touch. Breakfast i...

+ The family were so lovely and helpful during our stay. Anything we needed, they would provide. The room was great for the price. Nice comfy bed and hot water in the bathroom. View was amazing. we felt very welcome in the first moment we arrived. the bungalow is on the property of a familiy living next door in their house. Nadin, the son is taking care about you with outstanding friendliness, helps organizing trips and serves some of the best food (freshly coocked by his mother) we had travelling for 3 weeks. it is a 10-15 min walk from ella center and trains...

Roseland Cottages offered the most wonderful views and tranquil setting for our family. Away from the hustle and bustle of Ella, we spent two enjoyable days exploring the local area.
