Otari hotels & places to stay

It's basically a ski trip. A bit far from happo and echoland area but I was lucky enough to drive so not much problem. Hotel was clean and spacious enough. Onsen was good. Washing machine was there also so everything was great. One terrible complain was renting the ski or snowboard. They needed me to return the skis at 5pm and don't allow me to return it on the next morning. So how do they expect me to ski somewhere else besides Cortina? Not to mention I can't do the night ski also? Terrible ski rental at Green Plaza hotel....

will definitely return. the hotel, rooms, toilets, onsen are spotless. simple place that you know the management and staff are committed to run with excellence. reservations was easy, communicating we needed kaiseki dinner , pickup was very easy. the staff was very welcoming.. they even drove us to Hakuba 47. thank you for making our vacation feel so comfortable and wonderful.

Epoir Misawa was a great hotel! Only some rooms have private bathrooms, but the public one is just fine. The skii lifts are literally out the back door. The breakfast is good, just know that the service will stay open for you and. One knock on your door to make sure you're fed. So don't be late! The lift pass is for 3 or four skii areas, you can reach all of them from The hotel lift.

The thing that made this place the best was the host--he spoke some English, and he was willing to pick us up from the bus depot and drop us off, not to mention driving us to and from the ski lift! He was a really great guy, who took pity on us because we were short on cash (I didn't know that EVERYTHING in Japan requires cash....credit cards are almost useless, so be forewarned!) and worked to help us out. The location is not perfect--the hotel is a ten minute walk from food and the slopes, which becomes more like 15 - 20 in the snow and impossible in the dark when it's snowing! It was worth it to get the dinner as well as breakfast---the food was excellent. He even had rental ski/snowboard equipment delivered to the hotel for us. This guy really worked hard to make our trip a good one, when it could have been a disaster!

Cortina Apartments is probably the nicest place either me or my wife has ever stayed (and she's stayed at some swanky places). Beautiful ski-in-ski-out location with grand sweeping views from the deck and massive windows. Modern updated decor (a rarity we found out in Hakuba). Owner picked us up and drove us into town when we needed rentals. Hotel had discounts to the nearby onsen at the resort and ski passes. Little touches are excellent: ski storage area with heated floors, iPad and Apple TV, kitchenette. This really was elegances for the price!

Great location. Cab ski straight out the front door and down to the tsugaike lifts. Price I paid was such great value for money. Staff are lovely and helpful, even with limited English ability. The one draw back is the rooms are heated with kerosene which can leave some toxic fumes over time. Also the bath is communal so if you ain't into that maybe not the place for you. Definitely a great Japanese style lodge and authentic experience. Would highly recommend =)

I booked this lodge in the Tsugaike-kogen ski resort in the Hakuba valley, mainly because I left it to the last minute. However for a reasonable price I had a small comfortable japanese style bedroom on my own with a shared bathroom. While some of the reviews on this place were not great, after staying 4 nights here I realised they were largely unfair. I was picked up and dropped off from the Happo bus terminal a 15min drive each way, I had my own room, They have in house snowboard hire, lockers, a small store, a restaurant open for breakfast lunch and dinner by pre order. A small area for ad hoc meals, and hardworking staff. I could not speak Japanese but the staff made sure I was comfortable. I think star ratings are for the value for money you receive, not comparing a place with a 5 star hotel. The only thing I did not like was that smoking was allowed in common areas. The place is getting old and needs a spruce up but it gives great value if you need cheap accommodation.

The ladies toilet is terrible . Think before you book . Some rooms eg 202,203 and 211 use heater without exhaust meaning you have to keep the window open and those heaters turn off automatically every 30mins and it could be unbearable in -5 degree with the window opened ! the futon and blankets are dirty ! sadly I hv to use them because i’m very cold .there’s 3 dead insects in my room . The sink inside the ladies bather room is full of dust .

We took a chance on this hotel without reviews on agoda because we were sold by the idea of a mountain view japanese western mix room up high in tsugaike kogen. While the room we eventually got wasn't directly facing the mountains, we still had a great view and the room itself was cosy and comfortable. I believe they went through some renovations which is why the pictures of the lobby and entrance areas arent very accurate. They are also now called Hill Top Hotel Miyagawa which made us spend 30mins walking up and down slope to find. Check in time is pretty strict at 3pm and be warned that they have a new system that requires you to deposit your bags in a coin locker (payable) if you arrive before then. We booked a double room but got two single beds that we pushed together so no big deal but not sure either if they have any rooms with double beds. The reception cant really speak english but does his best. They also run a gear rental shop if you need although the selection is not wide and an onsen on the top floor which was very good and relaxing. The onsen also had an outdoor tub but do not expect any views. Overall, the room is comfy and the heater is the best we've seen so far. Room layout is ideal with a small tatami floor sitting area while beds are western style. Bathrooms are slightly bigger than average. Would be useful to have a safe in the room to store valuables while out skiing. The tv was good entertainment at night when the slopes kind of die down after dinner. The location of the hotel is very accessible if you are skiing at the intermediate slope near the gondolas. If you are at the beginner slopes and taking english ski lessons, then the hotel is the opposite end that you want. If you come out the back entrance, walk towards the ski lifts and turn left, there is a very homely restaurant up some steps that you can try for breakfast and lunch run by a very cute elderly couple who are wonderful. Ask the information centre on recommendations for dinner.

I was taking my Ski instructor course & exam alone in Hakuba. The owner of the hotel, Mr. and Mrs. Sasaki were taking care of me like their own family. They help me buy lift ticket and rent ski equipment, and let me have lovely dinner with them. Although my Japanese is not good, I still feel they concerning about my ski exam, then we have a little celebration together after I passing the exam. It was so lucky I stayed in their hotel and had a great time with Mr. and Mrs. Sasaki. I will definitely visit them when I go to Hakuba Valley!

Warm reception & people while snow storm outside... :) Good room, not too big not too small, Std toilets, Clean. Nice breakfast & dinner included in the price! What else you can ask for from a budget hotel? & when it was snowing outside, hot food felt like heaven. Washing m/c & Microwave can be freely used. My wife was very happy as she had to cook for our 5 yr old son. Snow shoes were given free & gloves at a minimal charges. Excellent location, 2 min walk to central Tsugaike Bus stop & 5 min to the Gandola ride. The hotel had a very warm/homely feeling & at the low cost it was, we loved it!!

The Hai Lodge is a great option for accomodation at Hukuba. The place is newly renovated (by the owners), Gavin and Julia and their mates have done a fabulous job of making it feel cosy with Japanese touches. You get a kimono robe to wear to the bathroom, paper screen doors in the bedroom, and wooden shower floors. This place is a team effort with friends of two beautiful people coming from all over the world to help make it special. A French friend, and skilled barman knocks up some incredibly smooth cocktails, and friends from Australia can help you with breaky and getting around. You can get lift passes from the lodge to the local mountain (Tsugaike Kogen) and avoid the queues. Breaky of toast and cereal is included, (or buy something more substantial), and the local mountain is a short 3 minute walk. It's a great mountain for beginners and intermediates, and fun for advanced players as well. There are shuttle buses to explore other slopes and places to eat etc as well.
