“Persnickety people: please read”
Absolutely recommend this Mad Monkey to solo travelers looking to meet like-minded travelers. This is a place where staff are introduced at check-in and remember your name throughout your stay. Special mention goes to Jovan, the guest experience officer and super star who led an entertaining trivia night (my team won) and rallied a big hostel troop for after-hours merriment around General Luna's exquisite nightlife scene. He and Georgina were such a blast! However, a warning to the persnickety lot out there whose expectations tend to mismatch with reality: The rooms are clean, beds sufficiently comfortable, lockers available, and quiet hours generally enforced and respected. Sand do make it in the dorms, outdoor areas get muddy and water pressure is inconsistent. As other reviews here have touched on, there were indeed rodents detected in at least one dormitory during my stay. Management was quick to take action and immediately ordered pest control to address the infestation the weekend of my stay (Mar 7-9, 2025). It all made for a good laugh, but we know rats breed like some backpackers and seek shelter when it's raining hard. Additionally, domestic guests who expect immaculate cleanliness at all hours may be surprised to learn that water buckets in 'shared' bathrooms do occasionally get a little murky from use. If these slight imperfections are immediate turn-offs, I would suggest sparing yourself the misery and let others occupy the space. If you're after a bed to lay your head and nothing more, the Mad experience is quite clearly not for you. You're welcome.
