“Pleasantly quiet and convenient ”
This place is situated in a quiet street with a few temples and shrines nearby. I loved how quiet it was, as I had just come from the city. The location is convenient enough to get around Kyoto (it’s a 15-20 min bus ride from Kyoto station), so you could get around the city pretty easily. I also loved how close it was to Yasaka Shrine and Kiyomizu-dera (don’t forget to check out Sanenzaka slopes on your way down). I loved that the hotel provided free amenities, so if you happen to forget anything, don’t fret. One note - maybe it’s because it’s Kyoto, but the convenience stores nearby all close around midnight, so if you happen to arrive late at night, make a stop elsewhere before heading over to the hotel. The staff were extremely kind and accommodating. When I first arrived, I noticed the room was not entirely clean (found some stains on the bathroom floor), but after notifying the staff, the MVP Ken immediately changed my room for me and all was well after. This hotel was definitely worth it for the price, considering the location and peaceful nights. If you’re looking for a more local vibe with chill nights, I recommend staying here 👌🏻

“Great central location in Gion to base exploration of the area”
I stayed at Kyoto Inn Gion the Second for three nights in early March. It was the ideal location from which to base an exploration of the surrounding attractions. The facilities are clean and modern but decorated with a traditional flair so it feels in harmony with a more historical feel. Close by attractions are the Yasaka Shrine (10 minute walk) and Murayama park behind it, the Tennin-ji temple (known for the double dragon in the ceiling - 5 minute walk), and the Gion Corner Traditional Arts Performance theater (3 minute walk - and well worth it but you need to purchase tickets on-line for the variety show including Geiko and Maikos demonstrating their crafts). This Inn is also a good base from which to walk through the "old" shopping streets on the way up to Kiyomizu Dera monastery - which can take a little more time and is up hill all the way (but that makes the return easier) so give yourself plenty of time for such explorations. Some notable restaurants nearby include: Gyukatsu Kyoto Katsugyu for deep fried BEEF cutlets just down the street from the entrance to Yasaka Shrine, Duck Noodle Bowl restaurant on the other side of Gion for the most amazing duck EVER, and Menya Inoichi (across the river - take the side bridge across, and get in line by 4:30pm to get a ticket for a later seating... the ramen bar is tiny with only 7 seats... but the wait for the Michelin rated noodle shop is more than worth it). This Inn is also near the Keihan Railway station which you will need to get on if you want to take a day trip to Uji which is further on this line. It's also not too far of a walk to the main shopping streets and Nishiki market on the other side of the bridge (as well as Pontocho narrow shopping street). Breakfast buffet consisted of a wide assortment of pastries - each cellophane wrapped and in both sweet and savory varieties. I got a very good deal on lodging through Agoda and I would definitely stay here again the next time in Kyoto.

The staff were incredibly kind and accommodating; they allowed me to check in at 10 a.m. after my overnight flight, which was a lifesaver. I could rest and freshen up before heading out. The room was spacious, clean, and beautifully decorated in a traditional Japanese style. Modern amenities like a coffee machine were a nice touch. The complimentary breakfast was delicious, offering a variety of Japanese pastries, bread, milk, juice, and more—a great way to start the day. My only minor suggestion would be adding a laundry machine for guests' convenience. Otherwise, everything was fantastic. Highly recommend!
