Where to stay in Kawaramachi
Kawaramachi hotels & accommodations
Best hotel we’ve stayed in here in Japan! Room was perfect, went above and beyond for our expectations of cleanliness! On top of it being already immaculate it was cleaned thoroughly everyday! We had an option if we wanted our room not to be cleaned, simple cleaning (Fresh towels & minimal cleaning & then a clean where you can request to have your sheets changed). We g...
Situation between major subway/train stations.. Around 7 minute walk from Karasuma/Kawaramachi. Bathroom is clean with free towels. Individual room is perfect for solo travelers. Access to major attractions is easy.
Very conveniently located as a base to explore Kyoto. Walking distance to Nishiki Market and Arashiyama, Kinkakuji-ji and Nijo-jo are a short journey away. Only 2 stops to Kyoto Station that we used to travel to and from Tokyo and Hiroshima. The breakfast was one of the best of the hotels we stayed in during our trip to Tokyo and the croissants possibly the best I’ve ...
This hotel is Kyoto's hidden gem. It is centrally located, near the river and San journey Kawaramachi areas where transportation is easy and restaurants abound. You will never go hungry in this area. Convenience stores and bakeries are also a stones throw away. Our room was beautiful and with very well-thought of interiors. Separate bathrooms were spacious and ...
A very well located and convenience hotel - 1. About 700m from either Sanjo (take Exit 6) or Kawaramachi (take Exit 6 or 9) Stations; 2. In between 2 Shoppings centre - Teramachi & Shinkyogoku. At the longer end of these two shopping centres, you can find Fuji Daimaru and Takashimaya (Kawaramachi Station); 3. Less than 200m to Nishiki Market; 4. Less than 15minutes wa...
We booked four nights and had two connecting rooms. It was perfectly set up for our family of four. The hotel provided a baby cot at a small additional fee but it was all set up and ready when we arrived. The hotel was clean and offered snacks and drinks throughout the day. We didn’t have breakfast at the hotel but used the small coffee shops and cafes near by. A quiet...
Upon arrival I was warmly welcomed by the staff. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. I was very pleased with my stay, and although short this time, I hope to be back for a visit in the future. This is an excellent hotel location within walking distance to karasuma station (approx. 5 minutes ), 15 - 20 minutes walk to, Nishiki Market, Gion Shijo & about 30-45...
The location is right next to all major kawaramachi bus stops and lots of shopping. It's walkable to the Higashima temples though the full loop is well over 10 miles. . The staff was friendly and accommodating. They carry the bus day passes and provide a free newspaper (I enjoyed sampling the local perspectives). The room is small by Western standards but it's adequat...
This new apartment hotel blew us away, friendly staff , clean and new apartments and not far from kawaramachi shopping district
I highly recommend this hotel to anyone going to Kyoto. If you are travelling in Kyoto, bus is the best transportation mean & the hotel is just 1 min walking to the bus stop. The best thing is that there is a hot spring and you can relax yourself there. Staff are very friendly. There is a tourist information center with a staff on duty to show you the best route to go ...
Wife and I were on our honeymoon. We wanted a great time in Kyoto. Chances upon this hotel online. Booked it. Turned out to be a great decision. Through email, we asked the hotel to help us make a reservation at Hyotei, a three-star Michelin kaiseki restaurant. The hotel replied within the day and confirmed our reservation. A couple of weeks before our trip, we found o...
Grand Bach Kyoto is a nice hotel, we loved to stay here. We looked for the hotel in Kyoto since 3 months in advance, and we found that this hotel meet our inquiry, good price, location, free wifi in room and facilities. But for last minute booking i think the price was overrated, perhaps because of it's hard to find a hotel during the Gion Matsuri Festival (3rd largest...
This hotel has the perfect location (surrounded by restaurants, convenience store). Hot bath was great. They provide free amenities kit. The room is a bit small (we booked Triple room). The best thing about this hotel is that hotel staff are superb helpful and friendly. They do not say no to any requests and always willing to help. Free welcome drinks and dining are...
The hotel is modern and sleek, and well placed in the Kawaramachi area. Easy walk to the local sights of Nishiki markets, Pontocho dining street, and short walk over the river to Gion district. There are a couple of train stations nearby and buses on the main road outside the hotel. Free espresso coffee machine in the main lobby's guest lounge was a nice touch. The tat...
The Hotel Wing International is excellent value for money. It's close to Kyoto Station and only a short walk from downtown Kyoto (Kawaramachi area). One small problem, however, our room was VERY small, which made travelling with two faintly big suitcases a challenge. I'd stay there again, but I'd specify a twin room rather than a double.
This hotel is one of the best hotel I have ever lived in. The room is very spacious relative to other hotel in Japan. Very clean. The washing machine with drying function is great, with one pack of free washing powder provided. Cooking utensils and oven are great for saving money when i can cook A5 Wagyu beef from the supermarket. Free drinks provided from 7am-11pm, n...
Located within walking distance from sanjo station and a hop and a skip away from main artery Kawaramachi, we loved our stay here. Starbucks was also a few minutes away (to the delight of my husband). It's a fifteen minute walk to gion, and pontocho is even closer. Check in and check out was a breeze, and the staff were helpful and friendly. You can purchase bus pass...
This hotel is perfect in every way! location is the best, just round the corner from shijo station exit 19 (stay on same side of the road & walk away from the cross junction), walk past Tokyu Hands & turn in at the Yoshinoya corner. Dont bother staying at Kawaramachi where you still need to transfer subway line, Shijo station is just 2 stop away from Kyoto station. D...
Good location, it is only 10 minuets walking from the main shopping and food place, Kawaramachi, very convenient to hang around. Hotel, itself is cozy (small, but ok) and clean, crews are friendly. The public sauna is very small (way smaller than the pictures but clean, well equipped, no inconvenience to use), good to use it in winter time. The one I liked most was t...
very new hotel, clear & bright with great facilities even provided kitchen facilities sink with piped water, microwave, cutlery, plates & bowls etc. just the check-in counter is inside a building opposite of Kyoto station, then need to take train/bus/taxi to the hotel. Hotel is un-staffed but they have a phone to call them if needed. Taxi from the check-in building...
A room is quite small but there many equipments, facilities inside and All they look new : ))) There are many convenient stores nearby this hotel. If you want to go to any attractions you can ask receptionists. They'll give you a map, including Bus No. but I'm not sure about the language (I got japanese/chinese language) If you look for a hotel nearby kawaramachi ...
Very close to one of the subway station, hotel was in comfortable walking station to downtown Kyoto (kawaramachi area/ gion area). We had a very nice room and the staff were very friendly. Smoking is allowed in the lobby. Walls were a bit thin, and the Cantonese people that were living next door were talking loudly throughout the night, but this is not the hotel's f...
Loving this hotel so much. It's really near to the subway station Karasuma line, which you can ride to Kyoto Station or switch to the popular Hankyu Kyoto line. There are also bus station nearby. Going anywhere in the city is very easy. Furthermore, the rooms are really good! You'll get clean and modern bathroom, wide beds, a phone that you can take outside to act as y...
This hotel/co working space/hostel is in a great location, short walking distance to Kawaramachi station, Teramachi and Nikishi market. There is a super market across the street, and tons of restaurants around. The actual pod is a nice size, very comfy double bed and gives a little more privacy than other hostels. The shower and washrooms are clean, and the lounge/co w...
This hotel is quiet, and very welcoming. Staff were extremely friendly, and made the effort to make our stay very enjoyable. One of the women even chased us down to tell us that she would be on days off, would miss our departure and wished us the best. The breakfast buffet is excellent catering to both Japanese and Western tastes, and a special mention must go to the...
Pros: - really good location, access to 2 different train lines [5min walk from Exit 5, one line going north south 2 stops from Kyoto stn & other going east (1 stop from gion) west], - 10min walk to Shijo Dori Bus stop (takes you to kinkakuji & other attractions), - 15min walk to Nishiji market - Very helpfull staff. Mo trouble with English, always happy to help. -...
Very clean room, everything super clean. Spacious and with a washingmachine and small kitchen included. Its really a 10/10 A friendly receptionist which helped us a lot with our questions about sightseein around kyoto. I can really recommend this Hotel! You get a lot for a "cheap" price. We stayed in 3 hotels in kyoto. This one was by far the best. Hahaha i dont...
hotel okura is very near to kamokawa, it takes about 5 minutes to the river. kawaramachi and shijo and sanjo are in its neighborhood, with department stores and good for shopping. the hotel is connected to the subway station kyoto shiyakusho mae and there are restaurants, cafes, and convenient stores outside the subway entrance. the single room is small as other hote...
We paid for an upgraded room (one with a name not a room #) and it was beautiful. It had a sitting area, foyer, modern bathroom that was very spacious by Japanese standards. It also had 2 single beds and a full size multi purpose room raised in the middle with paper walls and tatiami matts. There were legless chairs and a coffee table that pushed aside for traditional ...
WAS MY 4TH TRIP TO KYOTO & MADE IT EVEN BETTER. TOOK MY RELATIVES & WAS BEYOND OUR EXPECTATIONS. SURROUNDING EATERIES WAS GREAT (HAVE TO EXPLORE) & GOOD WALKS TO NISHIKI MARKET, KAWARAMACHI AREA, YASAKA + KIYOMIZU TEMPLES & GION. BUILD UP APPETITE FOR MEALS & TO DIGEST AFTER. BASE FOR DAY TRIPS TO ARASHIYAMA BAMBOO FOREST (MUST GO ON SCENIC TRAIN) & NARA DEER PARK.
Cheap places to stay in Kawaramachi
In this hostel, I made a lot of friends. All the staff can speck English and all of them are so NICE! Also, there is cooking facilities, that's well for the meal arrangement. Japanese living style hostel, very clean. Close to Nijo castle and Kyoto Imperial palace, I can walk to these two spots. Around the environment it is so quiet so you can have a nice sleep. Low pri...
great great great, book it, book it now, and keep booking it, never stop booking it!!!! also as a side note, I feel it's important to mention that I'm quite tall six one and a half to be specific, and although I love history and culture, and I absolutely adore the cultural experience of sitting on the pillows in front of the very traditional Japanese low tables, I have...
I loved Guest House Taiko-Ya. It is a tiny traditional Japanese house turned into a hostel. Everything has been well thought out and is extremely clean and comfortable. The staff were very accommodating and friendly, and helped us plan our stay in Kyoto. The bathroom was wonderful, although I must say that it wasn't that practical to have only one bathroom for the whol...
We were in Kyoto for the foliage and booked this guesthouse because my wife wanted a room with a garden in a traditional Japanese house. This place is a self service guesthouse. You make your own bed. They have 2 bathrooms and 3 toilets outside the room (1 toilet is famale only). There's bus stop on the main road about 200m. Supermarket for food, convenient store just ...
Khaosan Kyoto is near Kawaramachi hanyu line station. Very near to Teramachi shopping and you will never regret choosing this guesthouse. Muslims can find halal indian restaurant and Kebabs kiosk at Teramachi shopping lane nearby. Accesible to many tourisitic areas and shoppings. Family mart ,Fijii Daimaru is just along Khaosan. Its right in the heart of Kawaramachi l...
The hotel is nice and cozy with nice and helpful staffs working there. The female dormitory sits in the main building and the room layout gives you the best privacy. Excellent for ladies solo traveller. Highly recommended!!!!
Whenever I’m in Kyoto, Kyoto Hana is my go-to place because of its convenient location from Kyoto Station and everything else. It has the basic amenities as we were outside during the day. The staff is very helpful and accommodating. It was very easy for us to make a last minute booking (good thing, there were available beds/rooms) because our bus to Tokyo got cancell...
For those who want to experience the traditional Japanese style home stay and with limited budget, Yululu would be the best choice. The bed and whole setting is comfy and cozy. The staff are very friendly. But the only limited is that it is not noise proof at night. Also, it has the best location, located at the city center, lots of coffee shops, gallery and boutiques ...
Staff performance was outstanding. Very helpful with maps and direction/travel advice. They provide luggage storage until 10pm. There's a bus stop right outside to take you to the golden temple and other key tourist locations. You can buy an all day bus ticket for 500yen. Common room was fantastic. Met some interesting travelers to dine and explore Gion with. Beds ...
One of the best hostels I've ever stayed in. Loved the pod bed, felt like I had my own little room. Great facilities as well, laundry room and a simple kitchen area on both floors, very clean throughout and staff were really nice.
This is by far one of the best budget accommodations we've been to! WeBase is a know hostel chain in Japan but very affordable. We stayed for 2 nights and it did not disappoint given the affordable rates! It is located right in the middle of Kyoto's commercial center (Kawaramachi area) and a few minutes walk from the subway (Shijo Stn) which is two stops away from Ky...
the location is very very great. it is very close to a bus stop(kawaramachi shomen: 河原町正面) in the main street (河原町通), thus it is very convevient and won't take you more than 10 minutes by bus (route 205, 4, 17) to get to the kyoto station or the prosperous section, shijo kawaramachi (四条河原町). there is a nice, clean and equipped kitchen, a clean shared bath room and two ...
Bird Hostel exceeds all of out expectations. The staff was attentive and always available and friendly. The hostel itself is very well maintained! There was a simple breakfast provided every morning and everything was made of basic but fresh ingredients (freshly baked bread included!). We booked a Double Room with Private Bathroom and it was very clean. There was a co...
This hostel can easily be negotiated on foot from Kyoto Station. Just go out from the Central exit of JR Kyoto Station, cross the street towards Kyoto Tower and walk along Karasuma-dori (the street on the east-side road of Kyoto Tower, near Starbucks). Turn right at the intersection of Shichijo-dori and Karasuma-dori and walk for about 5 minutes until you reach Kawaram...
Great location, about 10 mins walk to Shijo station and 15 mins to Kawaramachi area with lots of restaurants and shopping centre. Free breakfast (bread only) and coffee/tea provided. Clean shower room and toilet. Friendly staff, multilingual and informative. Value for money and will consider to stay here again.

I've booked a room for 4 with shower inside. Staff good, facilities good. I reached Kyoto early in the morning, I originally just need them to keep my luggage for me and I will come back at 3 pm for the check-in process, but the staff just checked-in for me, so I get a good place to take a rest, so thankful for the convenience that I've been given. The nearest su...

Kyoto...best travel place for japan. This hostel place at good location nearby Shijō Kawaramachi(shopping area in kyoto) with 24hours frontdesk and with small public bathroom. This hostel will free towel and free mask for you.1st hostel i stay with free mask!😂
We stay there for 1 night but spend time 2 full days at Kyoto. The location is not in a hot spot but it's still easy to go there and not located in a hidden area, you may walk from Kyoto station around 15 min but mot recommended for whom may have a heavy baggage or many stuffs. Better take the bus no.50 only 5 min to Nishinotoin-Shoumen bus stop then walk around 1 ...
Origami guesthouse was one of the best hostels I've stayed at. The staff were incredible, shout out to tuka so helpful & really cool guy. The staff made this place worth it. Loved the Nintendo & Jenga! Thanks for a great stay.
Nori (staff) is great! He knows all the best places to visit in kyoto and he is happy to help you with any questions. The guesthouse is small but it makes it feel more like you're at home. The location is also fantastic. Really close to Nijo castle and very centrally located in Kyoto. The bike rental option is also nice (and cheap) because all the highlights of kyoto ...
Although far from a JR line (which might be a con to those who are utilising the JR rail passes), there are railway near the accommodation and a few sightseeing spots within walk-able range. Staffs were really friendly and helpful. It is a comfortable place to stay and relax at, and also a good place to make new friends with other visitors during the events held at nig...
Super great location, the hotel is located at Shinkyogoku Shopping Street with a lot of restaurants and shops. Walking distance to Nishiki market and kawaramachi shopping area. The hotel is full of comic and the common area is so comfy to chill in. Clean shower room and toilet. Free drinks are provided 24 hours. I am impressed by the amazing shower room for ladies. Def...
I booked the superior capsule and it's the best capsule I had so far in Japan. Unlike most capsule, I don't need to check out of my room if I stay for multiple nights here and there's also option to choose for cleaning service for the superior capsule (no extra charges). It's like a mini hotel room with your own desk and door and bed... but without a lock. To me that'...
Piece Hostel Sanjo is an affordably priced hostel located in the central part of Kyoto with good connections to Osaka via the Hankyu rail network and walkable to major sights within Kyoto like Gion, Nishiki Market and even Heian Jingu and Kiyomizudera. Most buses pass through Shijo-Kawaramachi, Sanjo-Kawaramachi and Shijo-Karasuma, all of which are just a short walk aw...
It was very accessible. It was good they sent an email prior to check-in on how to get to the hostel. However, it would be better if it was more detailed (e.g. If coming from Kawaramachi station or Gion-Shijo, use exit #__ and turn right/left). Breakfast was all-you-can-eat toast, jam and butter. They played great music at the reception too (not something I usually tak...

our stay at this hotel was fantastic, booking was made for 2pax but last minutes changes another friends come to join us. we were told that we need to upgrade the room because the earlier room can only fit in 2pax and there will be additional charges for the extra pax. knowing that we were in tight budget, the reception only charge us for the extra pax, and they upgrag...
This is my first time staying at Noku Kyoto. Since I check-in at 3pm, the lady at front desk showed her warm welcome to me and conducted the check-in procedure with her friendliness and sincerity. Besides, she did explain some important notes to me in detailed with her patience. I can truly tell that I was experiencing the great services of a 5-star hotel standard sin...
The hotel itself is very closed to everything, walking distance to Nishiki Market, Gion, the riverside, Kawaramachi dining area and all big shopping malls. It’s not only very convenient for travelers to visit Kyoto downtown area, but also very easy to access all major temples by bus or train. We had a wonderful stay thanks to their concierge team, always willing to hel...
We were on our honey moon and this was the best hotel we stayed by far, super Kindly staff and really good location as well, walking distance to our favorite place, the Nishiki Market and also really close to Subway, definitely staying again here in our next trip to Kyoto
This trip was all last minute so I didn't have any hotel booked until a day before arrival and I found this through agoda. This was one of my best ever hotel finds in all my years of traveling. The property and room are new and amazing. After the sad pillows at another popular business hotel in japan I wept a little at the 4 wonderful pillows and bed in my room. St...
Very nice hotel. Spacious & welcoming reception. Big Room with lot of space, Large beds, Big TV & Large Sofa. My Son enjoyed the space as he kept running around. Large wardrobes too. Std size toilets. Cleanliness & cleaning services were good. Reception ppl were helpful & gave all the info we needed about Kyoto on our arrival. Although breakfast was extra pay, it was...
My most business trip place, Kyoto. This hotel open lately, I think. Well equipped with 4 beds(2 beds in bunker type) specious room, with Living room, and kitched. Shower room with bath, and powder room with front-loading washer, also separated toilet with bidet. Clean white blanket, covers, and pillow do not have any smell. It is the one of the best place for family t...
The room was massive (especially for Japan) and with top-notch amenities and facilities. It would have been nicer for us, as a couple, to have 1 double or queen bed instead of 2 separate, but that was all that was available here. We enjoyed the brief tea ceremony on arrival and the tea theme in general. We stayed in the Genmaicha room and loved our outdoor tub as well ...
I have been to Japan four times and out of the many accommodations I have been to. This is the prime example of Japanese hospitality. You are served a cup of hot tea, local matcha chocolate and cheese cake once you arrive. They are always thanking you for everything and bowing to you with much respect and courtesy. Every single staff is polite and makes you feel at hom...
Overall an above average (7/10) hotel. Few things to note: Location location location - it takes more than 15 mins walk from Kyoto train station to the hotel. If you had a luggage with you, taking the No. 50 bus/ taxi would be a wiser choice - there is only one bus (No 50) running at the nearby bus stop. If you want to go downtown (gion/kawaramachi), take ~10 min walk...
The hotel is spanking new, very bright with lovely finishing. Everything looks well done/high quality. Room is very spacious and cheerful. The lobby is great with some unique touches (Nintendo switch games which you can play on a huge projector, lovely books on Kyoto to browse etc. Even leaving your luggage they provide nice bicycle locks for you nicely attached to we...
we stayed at hotel monterey kyoto, twins room, roome size is big enough for two of us. the hotel is only 3 mins walk to kawaramachi-oike station, and 15 mins walk to shijyo-kawaramachi crossroads. starbucks is just next to the hotel. location is just in center of everywhere. we found also free wifi signal available in guest room. clerks speak fluent english.
It's actually my parents and me, we traveled together to Japan. 3 adults in one room are difficult to find the right room type, especially last minute in Kyoto. We wanted to try traditional Japanese housing but not Airbnb, so this hotel is a wonderful combination of ancient and modern, from the entrance to the balcony. I have stayed in various 5 and 4 stars hotel all a...
The service they provided is the best have experienced in so many hotels. Rhe second day I went to Uji and brought back a mocha cake that should be kept in low temperature. I asked them to use their friger. Afterward, when I want to eat it, they give me a plate with fork and knife! Totally superised. And you should come and try the japanese style bath too. I've always ...
Easy to walk and find the hotel - 5mins straight walk from Kyoto station and 2mins walk to bus stop for a 20mins bus ride to Nikishi Market. Really love the warm hospitality of the staff and they are really helpful. The look of the exterior and interior of the hotel is exactly how the photo looks. Room is huge accommodating 2 adult + 1 youth, 3 big luggages + 1 cabi...
I had great stay in Matsui Bekkan in Kyoto with my partner. Staff were very nice and helpful. Great japanese breakfast as well. This hotel will be for sure my first choice for next stay.
It was fun. My sons enjoy it. I did not dine in the hotel but since I have to put a rating in the meal, so I picked the middle ground. Nearby river was fun to walk alone. My sons love sleeping on the tatami as this was their first time trying this and they prefer this over other 5 stars western style hotel.
I am a Japanese who emigrated to the US in 1986, so I know what to expect from hotels/inns at various price points. A quality traditional ryokan (Japanese inn) tends to be pricey regardless of location. Izuyasu is in Kyoto, and if one wishes to experience the real thing in Kyoto, it doesn’t come at a bargain price. Visitors need to keep that in mind when deciding where...
Everything went well especially the services is really good. The lady in Concerige speaks fluent English which is easily understand. We happened to join the big festival when we were in Kyoto (Gion Matsuri)and the best thing about the hotel is they have Ukata rental service! hotel okura is very near to kamokawa, it takes about 5 minutes to the river. kawaramachi and shijo and sanjo are in its neighborhood, with department stores and good for shopping. the hotel is connected to the subway station kyoto shiyakusho mae and there are restaurants, cafes, and convenient stores outside the subway entrance. the single room is small as other hote...
demanding and experienced free walk travel ladies required a least of 3 single beds with spacious room. This hotel room can have a very nice scene up till Kyoto Tower, locates very close to shijo kawaramachi (just 7-8min walk easily access) This is a huge room compare to others in Kyoto; a big washroom and good enough for 3 single ladies to manage their baggage open....
Have been here for 3 times. Nice design, Nice Staffs, Nice 401 room :) 3-5 min walk to Shijo-dori or Kawaramachi station, 5-10 min walk to Nishiki market.
Amazing place. Well worth it. This 2 story house in the heart of Gion, kyoto was incredible. The house was very old but fitted with modern comforts so you get the best of the old world with the new. Minutes walk to restaurants and the Yasaka Shrine. Highly recommend the Alio garden nearby to eat. this place has everything. Wifi, music, traditional feel, bathtub ...
We visit Kyoto at least once per year in the past decade and have stayed at most of the better known modern hotels in the city. The overall quality of this hotel is the best to us. Wonderful architecture and design. A good Italian restaurant and very helpful staff. Location is a bit far away from the subway but next to a river and close to some interesting local shops ...
I must say their concierge! Attentive like a 6 star hotel from before the trip by helping us book geishas dress up service to help us mail back the photos when we left it in the room. The location is great too, close to many good restaurants and train station. The room is very spacious and very mordern design. We also love the fact that is very clean and they even prov...
It is a five star boutique hotel in a cutest and quiet area. For a art lover, it locates in the heart of a treasure hunting/antique area of Kyoto. The service quality is great. The staffs remember your issues and are very caring. We lost our luggages on the way to Osaka and the minute we arrived the hotel, the front desk's opening line is about our luggages that the...
I don't understand why agoda described this hotel as 5 stars. In my view, the pricing is completely ripped off. The premise is small, dangerous for kids as there was zero window blockage. Location is not as convenient and zero house keeping during our stay. We are very disappointed.
Pros: - Quality bathroom amenities - Microwave oven - Very clean room, floors, linens - Spacious - Good air conditioning - Quiet - Laundry and dryer available Cons: - Quite a bit of walk from the main shopping street - Difficult to catch a cab nearby I absolutely recommend this place for a honeymoon - the deep tub baths and comfortable bed were excellent for a good r...
