"We booked a small double for £52, and continental breakfast. The Cairn is well located for access to Newcastle, on a busy road. Sunday night in Jesmond is quieter than the rest of the weekend. Our room was small, but clean. I hated the hard pillows, my husband loved them. We were unfortunate to have two air conditioning units on the external wall and a staff room of sorts above us, but in general we had nothing to complain about, everything in The Cairn is adequate. Staff are very pleasant and helpful. Food was fine. Happy hour in the bar- brilliant. We have stayed in several hotels in Jesmond for short visits, and The Cairn is better than many. "

"Quite nice hotel in Jesmond with good standards. Stayed here for two nights and had a silent clean room with a good bed. Close to city centre and you can easily walk to Haymarket or take the metro only one station to be there. Fairly normal modern standard, but worth its price. It's a safe buy."

All the staff I encountered were very helpful and polite. Breakfast was served in a pleasant dining room with plenty of choice and very also good value. "We have just returned from a short break in Northumberland, and cannot recommend the hotel highly enough. The deal was outstanding value but the setting, the welcome, the room, the staff and the dining was exceptional. Such a beautiful building and the room we had was clean and every detail was covered including ironing board, hot water bottle and other little niceties that made us smile. The beds were firm and comfortable but perhaps a tad firm for us. No problem. Reception sorted a mattress topper before we returned to our room. This is the only place we would consider staying when in the area. In terms of dining, the restaurant was super quality with excellent attentive service and as an example, two courses was £20 including delicious starter. Many thanks to the staff for making our stay so special."
