"Good location, walking distance to subway station and city centre. Located in quiet residential areas. Smooth check in and out through automated tablet. Facilities are basic, with missing amenities and manned counter only in the morning, making it inconvenient to request things. "

"This was probably the best hostel i have stayed and super good for the value of money. The hostel was a little hard to find initially, but its definitely worth the find. Its located away from the main street so you can expect quite environment. First of all, the staffs were very welcoming and friendly. They guided and provided few suggestions during my stay there. Beds were very comfortable and the facilities were beyond expectation. They have separate toliets and bathrooms for gents and ladies and these are fully equiped with toiletries for free. Excellent amenities! Tables and chairs are available at the reception area for dining. There is coffee vending machine available in the hostel. They stay was too good that i went back again after few days of traveling to other place. Location is very strategic as it is close to the train station and also few main attractions in Gion. Highly recommended for solo travellers."

"I found out that I've made a mistake on the booking and booked smoking rooms instead of non smoking rooms. To my surprise, the front desk staff did everything within their capability to get us non smoking rooms. Not only did the front desk miss got us non smoking rooms but one of the rooms had an amazing view of the temple and mountains. It was gorgeous. I think that room was actually upgraded. Lodging in Kyoto is generally pricey. This hotel fitted our lower end budget. It was clean and not too far from the subway. There was a bus stop right outside the hotel. There is a cool walk alley with "

"The hostel is easy to locate. Just 2min walk from Higashiyama subway station and 3min walk from Higashiyama Sanjo bus station. Located in the Furukawa shopping street. Walking distance to Gion and Karawamachi district. Staff are very friendly and helpful. My booking was 5nights stay in female dormitory however I was given 3 nights stay in their private room! Positive surprise! The downside is, the hostel has only one shower room. Hence you have to take turn or wait till late hour to shower. Because the building is a 100yo Japanese traditional house, the wall is paper thin. You can literarily hear people snoring from the next room. Peraonally I would prefer a more happening backpacker stay with activities, so that I can have the opportunity to meet other travellers. Hostel Haruya is more quiet. Overall is a pleasent stay in Hostel Haruya."
