Hotels near Heian Shrine

Location is great, within walking distance of many beautiful sightseeing spots around Gion (Hanamikoji alley, Yasaka shrine, Kodaiji, Ninen-zaka), and few minutes away across the bridge to the lively Karamawachi. Breakfast is just okay, I prefer walking 2 minutes to Family Mart for breakfast for the rest of my stay. Room is great in comparison to other Japanese standard hotel and the staffs cleaned the room each day. Really enjoyed onsen on the basement. The best of all are the staffs at the lobby. They are very friendly helpful. They helped me to get taxi couple of times. And when I need to get my luggages shipped to Tokyo, they stayed on hold on the phone patiently with my Tokyo hotel to make sure they can accept my luggages. They even measured and filled out the shipping form for me. Really enjoyed my stay there and will stay here again next time I visit Kyoto.

Loved our stay. Could walk anywhere from here. Busy hopping area. Lots to do. The neighborhood behind the hotel is traditional Japanese homes with narrow lanes and the small traditional Japanese restaurants. Walking the lanes was wonderful. Refrigerator for guest use in the room. The accommodations are tight but I've had far worse in Europe. Very quiet and clean. Perfect for us as we were only in the room to sleep and shower. We tried the breakfast the first day. The poster listed it as 'premium' and the pictures of it looked gorgeous. It was just simple so we went to starbucks the next few days. Having the Starbucks in the building lobby was perfect. The Shrine, park and temple were a block away. It was easy to visit during daylight and then again at night. Recommend doing that at one shrine/temple so you see it lit up and also in daylight. I would stay here again!

I just finished staying four nights at Laon Inn Gion Nawate in early February 2019. My stay was perfect! First off, the location is fantastic, just a couple minutes down the road from Gion-Shijo Station on the Keihan Line. You're also in easy walking distance to Kawaramachi Station on the Hankyu Railway and all the shopping and nightlife nearby. As the hotel is in Gion, you're obviously in close distance to all the temples, shrines, and culture found in Southern Higashiyama, as well as being close to the Kama River, Pontocho, etc. I really can't say enough good things about the location. As far as my stay was concerned, the room was large and comfortable, and I liked the convenience of having washing machines and dryers on the first floor (though the dryers could use a cleaning). What I liked most was the staff was helpful yet hands-off. They only clean your room or empty your trash when you request it. Frankly, I liked the privacy and comfort that allowed.

We had a western style room (they also have Japanese style rooms with futons), very spacious and comfortable. Many temples and shrines and beautiful gardens to see in this traditional, old-Japan neighborhood . Everywhere you look, beauty! The Maifukan staff was excellent, everybody pleasant and very helpful, with good English speaking skills. A lovely Japanese style breakfast is available right in the hotel, for an added price. We loved the peace and quiet of the hotel, with the main streets of Gion just a short walk away. Convenient to public transportation, and also a great area for walking. For me, the only negatives were 1) the firmness of the beds, because I am accustomed to a softer mattress, and 2) they did not have a public bath (hot tub spa) on site. But these small complaints were outweighed by the many positives.

Fabulous hotel in Kyoto, would stay again! Staff were incredibly friendly and helpful , and spoke great English. The young woman on the front desk gave us advice, helped us send our luggage to our next hotel, and even arranged restaurant reservations for us while we were out sightseeing. She was exceptionally patient and kind. The room was large compared to other Japanese hotels we stayed in. There was a sitting area with a couch , which suited our group of three very well. Luggage racks, a closet, and a desk in the room were also appreciated. Good location near Sanjo station (metro, Keihan Line), and bus lines to get to all the big shrines.

The hotel is located smack in the Gion area, within 10 min walk to Pontocho, the Yasaka Shrine and two subway station with direct access to Osaka and of course on the city's main bus lines. It is also 20 min walk to the Nishiki Market and several large shopping stores (Daimaru, Takashimaya etc.) and a strip of shopping haven. All around it can be found a humongous selection of food choices. The hotel itself is fairly simple but is certainly adequate for all purpose of the sightseer. The morning breakfast spread is probably typical of a healthy Japanese spread. It is a refreshing change from the usual orgy of "international" spread. We enjoyed it. Mention must be made of the General Manager herself, Mdm Itsuki, who is around every morning and is at hand to handle any issues. She is friendly and and most willing to assist. The hotel arranged a kaiseki meal for us at a 3 stars Michelin restaurant and is certainly capable of making any other arrangements.

chose this hotel as it looks like a very pretty boutique hotel. however room was very small and bed is really terrible! very hard bed it’s like sleeping on the floor. one thing about holidays is restful sleep but this was a super big NO NO. so unless the hotel changes its mattress please reconsider booking. room did not have any mirror for me to do my makeup and when my husband needs the sink it was impossible to share as the space was small. nevertheless i must say that the bento breakfast was very nice.

Everything was excellent, from the initial welcome at the door to the final goodbye. The room was ample, very clean, with good tatami and futtons. Breakfast, served in the room, was superb. The bathroom attached to the bed room was the standard tiny ryokan bathroom. The location is very convenient, 3min from the subway and train station, just on the other side of the bridge from hundreds of restaurants. The staff is extremely friendly, and speak pretty good English. I definitely recommend Masuya for those who want to stay in a traditional ryokan (and who know how to handle a ryokan - as it is very traditional).

When we arrived, we did not expect that this is a "service apartment" in Ryokan style. After we phone to Hiro-san, and get the correct passcode to enter the Ryokan, we immediately felt in love with the place. There is a lovely Sakura plant in the garden, where we see its full blossom. There are two toilets, that comes with wooden bath tubs that you can do your own onsen (buying the onsen salt from the nearby 7-11 or Lawson). The kitchen comes with full utensil. We cook for three meals. And it is in the heart of the shopping area. So, after our feet are tired, we can always come back here to rest.
