"Good location, walking distance to subway station and city centre. Located in quiet residential areas. Smooth check in and out through automated tablet. Facilities are basic, with missing amenities and manned counter only in the morning, making it inconvenient to request things. "

"The hostel is easy to locate. Just 2min walk from Higashiyama subway station and 3min walk from Higashiyama Sanjo bus station. Located in the Furukawa shopping street. Walking distance to Gion and Karawamachi district. Staff are very friendly and helpful. My booking was 5nights stay in female dormitory however I was given 3 nights stay in their private room! Positive surprise! The downside is, the hostel has only one shower room. Hence you have to take turn or wait till late hour to shower. Because the building is a 100yo Japanese traditional house, the wall is paper thin. You can literarily hear people snoring from the next room. Peraonally I would prefer a more happening backpacker stay with activities, so that I can have the opportunity to meet other travellers. Hostel Haruya is more quiet. Overall is a pleasent stay in Hostel Haruya."

"Really good place to stay. Close to station and bus stop. There's Heian Shrine nearby, which I didn't visit yet because I visited other places... 3 nights were surely not enough for me to discover Kyoto. I found this place because Jiro the dog was sitting on a display and I stopped to look at him. Miwa-san, Owner-san and the staffs are really friendly and make you feel at home. I suggest to spend nights during weekends because they have house party at Friday and free Sento tour on some days every week. "

"It really was value for money especially with such a large space in the private room installed with a sink. As with all Japan hostels, the cleanliness is one of if not the best. For location, it was in really close proximity with Higashiyama subway station and there is like an alley full of shops about less than a minute away."
