"Mulan Hostel was a great place to stay in Kyoto. The owners were kind and friendly and explained everything clearly in English. The hostel was very clean and well maintained. The accommodations were very comfortable with good features like a lock box and WiFi access. The hostel was located near the Arashiyama Bamboo Grove and it was about a ten minute walk through a pleasant neighborhood. The hostel is located about 20 minutes by foot from the nearest JR station at Saga Arishiyama, but just three minutes from Arishiyama station. There is also a convenience store right next to the station so it was easy to get food and drinks. I would definitely stay here again. "

"This hotel has a pleasant, open, airy feel - sort of modern and slightly industrial but clean. Our room was spacious, complete with a kitchenette, round dining table, and three comfy low beds. The separate rooms for the tub, toilet, and sink with mirrors/outlets make it easy for one person to bathe while someone else does their hair, brushes their teeth, etc. if you are traveling in a group like we were. Overall you get a peaceful suburban feeling paired with the convenience of a quick walk to Hankyu Arashiyama station."

However, staff are very helpful and try their best to explain. Location is good, right opposite to the train station of the Arashiyama station of the Hankyu Arahiyama Line. But is also accessible by bus (route 28 & 73) outside the Kyoto JR train station. We took a stroll down from hotel to Togetsukyo Bridge in the morning. It was very pleasant and peaceful. "

"I cannot recommend this enough. It was an absolutely amazing price for what we got and such a lovely experience overall. Our travel party was just two- my dad and myself. If you have more than 3 people or if you are someone who needs their open spaces, this is not for you). The owner and her family were so nice and incredibly helpful. They indulged speaking with me with my very minimal Japanese and then were also ready to switch back to English. The owner even helped us make reservations (which were online, only in Japanese) for a Kyoto kaiseki meal- which was amazing and something I highly recommend. There are a couple of hot spring places which were a very nice, semi-scenic walk away- about 15 min. (one was very small, old and adorable. The other was a modern sento and very cool. In both places, I met some very nice older/elderly ladies). This was a perfect leisurely way to experience Arashiyama, and central Kyoto is also only a taxi or train ride away."

"we chose this hotel because it compared very favourably with other hotels in this price range in kyoto. if you have a free rail pass in particular it's a good, economical alternative. take the shinkansen from tokyo to kyoto. get off at saga-arashimaya and do the 10 min. walk to the hotel. spend or 15 more and get the 2 room option with the 2 single beds and the fold up bed (31 sq. m), as a young family we appreciated the space. they also put the heated toilet, vanity basin and shower in 3 separate rooms - ideal in the mornings if you want the family to make an early start! we paid for 2 people, our daughter being 5, but when it came to getting sheets and a pillow for the fold up bed they said we needed to pay yen extra a night. we said no don't bother but asked if we could get a pillow - that was free, no problem! umm, cheaper to buy your own bed linen out on the street!
