I only came to Izu for the onsen experience and I probably came at a low-peak season as Izu was pretty much a ghost town. There was nothing to do in Izu anyway, it was just a small town with onsen hotels and a beach for surfers. Excellent location, right on the beach. Draw your curtains in the morning and you can see beautiful sunshine shining on a great looking stretch of sand. Excellent staff very helpful, especially the Australia educated lady at the front desk with excellent English. Izu Marriott Hotel Shuzenji is a very new opening hotel, all good facilities and the staff can understand English. The room is spacious and clean, with private onsen on the balcony. I highly recommend this hotel and resorts if they can add more shuttle bus to Shuzenji station.

Rather remote but if Shimoda is one your itinerary, driving to here for one night is very special experience. Book Room Type C for private onsen and the cozy, calm and original atmosphere is refreshing.

I personally feel that Dinner is too expensive, too much fish, The taste is just so-so. I like the private hot spring in the room. The room is very clean and with sea views! If I will go to Izu again, I will choose this hotel again. Note: You need to return to the hotel before 11pm every night.

Pleasant stay though a bit pricey... Surrounding is a ghost town with very few attractions... But would recommend for the traditional feeling of the hotel. Food is great, Onsen is very relaxing near the river.

We stayed 2 nights in Toi Ouzen, the room is quite nice and spacious, separate areas for bath and toilet, we also had open air bath. The Kaiseki cuisine is also a plus. The staff are very friendly and helpful.
