Where to stay in Unawatuna
Unawatuna hotels & accommodations

Fantastic villa in Unawatuna. We selected the room with plunge pool. Unfortunately the AC didn't work ( Good lesson to hotels to check ACs before handover rooms to guests) and we had to switch to the other room which having the direct access to the main pool (Both rooms are in Ground floor). It was not bad either. The best place is the rooftop restaurant. Amazing views...

I was with my son (16 years) and truly enjoyed this vacation specially Calamander Unawatuna Beach Hotel. From the time we arrived we were wellcomed in a hospitable way until we departed. All the staffs were professional specially Mr. Asela(fom) the manager who was personally attended to our requirements and comfort and he is truly a proffesional manager and a big plus ...

I don't imagine the stay being much better. Nice pools, big room with a small hot tub in the bath room (we booked super deluxe, I believe?), good location, and good food too. I'd like to point out that the restaurant appears overpriced at first, but the price is for a course on most meals (soup + dessert included). In light of that and the generally high prices in U...

My friend and I stayed here for 6 nights in a pool Pavillion room and we had the most incredible stay. The hotel was lovely and in a great setting next to the sea and only a short walk to the gorgeous beach! The rooms were very spacious and nicely decorated. The pool area was great and so relaxing! The food was fab, breakfast was very good and we ate dinner here twice ...

We booked this hotel for five days at the beginning of the New Year on the strength of the positive reviews about the pool and we were not disappointed. The pool and surrounding grounds were great with the pool being sufficiently large enough to enable lane swimming. I asked for a room with a view of the pool as the location was quieter but was also offered a room with...

Cantaloupe Levels provides you with more than what you'd expect. First and foremost, the view is phenomenal. Located on top of a hill, the hotel is first of its kind in Sri Lanka, basking a 3-floor structure with 9 luxury rooms. The hotel overlooks the Unawatuna Bay, providing you spectacular insight to the stunning beach landscape of the South. The view; both invites ...

The location is perfect, just 3-4 min walk to Unawatuna beach! The garden is where you can spend quiet evenings! Very much vegetation, French style breakfast is extraordinary! I recommend you if you are staying here or in the area to taste the prepared cakes! If the roads will bring me back to Unawatuna I will definitely return to this hotel with love!

The Gloria Grand Unawatuna hotel is everything its name implies. One often wonders about he accuracy of the hotel "blurb". But the guest reports usually give a more accurate assessment. I found no fault with the Gloria Grand, nor with the warm and welcoming staff. Nothing was too much trouble My package deal was superb ... full breakfast, AC, free WiFi, clean roo...

Really decent hotel. Would highly recommend. The rooms are very clean and spacious, some rooms even have jacuzzi. The view is just amazing:you can swim in the pool and watching the waves breaking on the huge rocks. If you want to swim - main Unawatuna beach is just few minutes walking distance. The breakfasts and food from menu a la carte were delicious. Try their pizz...

We stayed for 3 nights in room 2 in January 2018. On arrival we were able to check in early and got immediate access to our bungalow. The room was beautifully decorated and very clean. It had everything we needed (plugs, fridge, mosquito net, seating area , guide book and even had a beach bag!). Andree was there to welcome us and gave us lots of great advice about ...

Pedlars manor is beautifully designed and feels like home. The staff and manager bnd over backwards to make your stay as comfortable as can be. The owners dripped in for breakfast just to make sure our stay was perfect, and we slept and ate so well we didnt want to leave. With 4 bedrooms its calm quiet and has plenty of space for private time. The pool and gardens are ...

The hotel is simple and basic, perfect for a short weekend getaway. It's a bit outdated, but it's nothing to complain about. The staff is really friendly and helpful. The rooms are large, simple and clean. The property has its own private beach just minutes from Unawatuna Beach. Would definitely stay here again.

We really enjoyed and recommend the Dunes Unawatuna hotel. The Sri Lankan owner spent a number of years living in Australia and has made sure this newly built hotel has good Western standards - quite a difference to other places we've stayed in Sri Lanka. The staff were friendly and attentive, we enjoyed the food, and the beach is great for swimming, running, and a ra...

The gardener really takes good care of the pool and the beach. It's very clean. He asked us to visit KK again in Nov / Dec time when the beach is suitable for swimming. Breakfast is very good. Staff is well trained. My gf and I were sick during our stay. The manager immediately invited doctor (Dr. Silva) to visit us. There's always tuk tuk outside KK (2 Sri Lanka broth...

Lush grounds, beautifully decorated rooms, lovely and very efficient manager, friendly and helpful staff, talented chef, excellent location. Staff was quietly available for all needs. Manager, Chathuri, is simply excellent at her job. She is skilled in the (not so easy) art of hospitality and we appreciated her honesty and professionalism. Grand Suite highly recommend...

Our holiday was so amazing at The Long Beach Resort, Koggala, Sri Lanka. First of all we wish to thank all the staff for making our stay so enjoyable. The friendly members of staff provided exceptional services during our stay. We arrived to the hotel around 11 A.M and were warmly welcomed. Our arrival was an early on the hotel’s clock-in, however our room was quickly ...

We are so glad that we stayed at this hotel. Unfortunately after the tsunami none hotel are allowed to renovate at the beach that much so the rooms are at the moment not in the best shape. (For the moment is the only person who can and are allowed to build luxury room and hotel at the beach is the presidents brother).. However the rooms are okey standard and if their i...

We had a wonderful 3 nights here. We loved the very welcoming staff, especially the manager Henrietta, who went out of her way to make sure we had a fabulous time. The food was probably the best we had in Sri Lanka. We were travelling with 2 small children and there needs were well catered for. Couldn't recommend this place highly enough.

I stayed here for 2 nights and was thoroughly pleased with my stay. Owner is a Russian couple and although it was off-season there were 2 other russian couples in the villa next to mine - they were very good neighbours so I didn't mind. The design of the villa is fantastic, concrete linings all around - very rustic feel. The owners also provided a very comprehensive gu...

What a 'Gem' of a place we discovered through Agoda! From the minute we arrived at ' La Verandah Di Serena' to the minute we left we were treated special! The owner (Chandran) his family and staff could not do enough for us, nothing was too much trouble! The welcome fruit juice was pretty amazing! We stayed in the 'Penthouse Apartment' which had amazing facilities an...

What a wonderful hostel! I was travelling on my own and was treated like an old friend by the staff and friends of the owner. There's a very relaxed atmosphere about the place and the people that stay there. The free breakfast is amazing, the beds comfy and the hostel dog Kush is probably the sweetest animal that ever lived. Nowhere else in Sri Lanka did I get to chat ...

We stayed at La Villa for 2 weeks and was the prefect place to explore Unawatuna from. La Villa is a lovely family run hotel in a perfect location, 5 minutes walk from the beach in a quiet area. The owners were very helpful and so friendly and sorted out any problems. They moved us rooms when our toilet was leaking and went out of their way to make us feel welcome. Th...

Restrictions on Wi-Fi usage and having beers in the room which would be nice to know before you book your holiday. Lock for door a padlock on outside, we got trapped in room as lock partially engaged but got out by shaking door, no one heard us knocking or calling out. The night before they'd put bars over windows for security, drilling through wall and bits fell on b...

The lovely people at Pearl had had a double booking issue and welcomed me gladly and sent me next door to Singha Villas for one night of my two night stay. In less than thirty minutes I asked if I could spend the two nights at Singha Villas. It is so low key, super easy going, very simple accommodation, but everything you need for a two night stay at the beautiful Unaw...

We had a lovely stay at black beauty guest house. The pool was a nice relief when we first arrived and wanted to cool down before a trip into galle and didn't want to go to the beach. We had a great night at the rooftop bar and restaurant and really appreciated a chance to talk to the lovely staff who work their and learn a bit more about Sri Lankan culture! The locati...

Great little spot tucked away behind the beach- 2 mins walk from Dalawella/Wijaya beach. Very friendly welcoming and helpful Family who will go out of their way to make your stay good. Very good value for an AC room and also a minute from street food shops, supermarket and bus stop. definitely recommend!

Absolutly loved staying here, wish we would have booked for longer! - the family are so nice and welcoming, great english, so helpful and always smiling - EAT ALL YOUR MEALS HERE. The food is amazing, best food i have had in sri lanka and the best you will find anywhere near here trust me! The sri lankan breakfasts and curries especially. - hot shower, (which is a ...

The place has a very rustic feel, but the room was very comfortable with a nice view from the balcony. The staff were excellent and took care of anything that was needed with an incredibly relaxed attitude. The food was great at their restaurant and the drinks were very reasonably priced. The location is superb - right in the middle of the stretch of beach. If you are ...

Friendliest of people... very accommodating and very helpful. The room was clean, neutral and good size. We were offered tea when we returned from a day at the beach which was sweet of the guy who prepared breakfast for us everyday. Variation of Sri Lankan breakfast along with toast, butter and jam... also Ceylon tea or coffee. The beach is one minute walk and it i...

The room itself is nice, polished cement floors and a wooden, four poster bed with mosquito net (not that you really need it). The room comes with AC and a fan too. There are several plug sockets around the room including one in the bathroom. It also has a balcony that overlooks the road at the front. The location of this place is what lets it down. The main road that...

This was an excellent place to stay. The rooms were very clean and the bed exceptionally comfortable. The beach in this area isn't large, but there is a small swimming area. It's a close tuk tuk ride to Unawatuna and Galle. On our last day, we ran into the chef in Galle. He took us around for 2 hours on his own time and showed us the best government-run shops, where t...

Stayed at Eco Villa as wanted to stay local to the beach to continue surfing. The entire family couldn't do enough to help, which was lovely. Breakfast was fantastic and can be made for you at any time in the morning which works best for you; they even cooked a dinner for me also. Location wise, it's just on the outskirts of Ahangama, but only a minute walk to the...

this place is so near to the beach. staff are cordial, they help me many times, one of them is to hire scooter. I was there for 2 days and it was great to stay. be careful about mosquitos and other bugs at outdoor seating area. staff did not give me the drinking water as it was in booking conditions. I think they forgot about it and I also didn't ask for it.

The location is perfect to go to the beach and to live the small city of unawatuna. But is a strategic place where to start to see galle and other beautiful beaches. The hotel is nice, clean and with all the comforts. The hosts are super nice, they took our baggage until the night when we had a taxi to the airport and they let us had a shower before go! Super recommend...

Well, as a guest house, we were welcomed with a welcome drink which brought us comfort after a tiring journey. The staff is very nice an rooms are clean, the only thing is the hotel may need to have some better maintenance for the sanitary for some rooms. The tea offered was the best ever I had in Sri Lanka.

This is my favourite stay in my 9days Sri Lanka trip! Anyone coming to Unawatuna HAS to stay here! The house was more of a b&b style rather than hotel. Owner lives on the 2nd floor so it was a really gd experience chatting with the locals (they speak gd english!). The rooms were huge and though there wasn't any A/C, the fans worked really well and there wasn't any ...

Everyone helped us to make our stay comfortable and cheerful. My kid enjoyed a lot at the swimming pool for nearly 4hrs floating like a fish due to low gravity and high density of the water near unawatuna. It is a well secured place and can travel to any city.Food was excellent and provided anything we asked for. Rooms and bathrooms were clean. The management was alw...

This place is isolated, in the best possible way. The staff attend to your every need in what feels like a very presonalised service. The setting on the lake was amazing, with a very well-kept pool overlooking it and it proved very refreshing when a midday 'cool off' was required. We considered the food slightly overpriced to begin with, but soon changed our minds afte...

We stayed here two nights, which make us feel free and relax, the room is good, and well decoration, the staff is friendly, and small all the time. we can not access to the beach directly, but it is not hard to go to beach, I was told we can not swimming in the sea area in front of the villa, it is reef area, so maybe if you want to swim, change another place. we try...

Excellent hotel and restaurant. Only downside is loud music from parties of other bars and clubs, sometimes till early in the morning (4AM). So better attend the parties yourself otherwise it can be quite disturbing. Food and service in Tartaruga is excellent!

We stayed for 4 days and enjoyed our time. The beach at Koggala is one of the nicest one in Sri Lanka and it is right out the door. The room is tastefully decorated and the staff do an outstanding job of keeping the rooms and garden in pristine condition. The area is not as crowded as others, so it was nice to enjoy quiet, undisturbed time, but to also be close to the ...

past the initial problems with reservation, we had a nice stay. the staff did their best to resolve the issue, the services were great in comparison to other places in sri lanka. overall we are satisfied. the beach is just across the street, you get a fresh beach towel and a bottle of cold water every day on your way to the beach. i recommend this place!

We have just stayed for 4 nights at this hotel and had a wonderful time! The hotel is a small boutique guest house with only 5 rooms set amongst the jungle - the setting is perfect, beautiful surroundings away from the busyness of the main beach in Unawatuna, but only a short tuk tuk ride away (the main beach area is only a 250 rupee tuk tuk away and the hotel owns it'...

villa saldana is right on the beach in habaraduwa. it is about 15 minutes to galle via tuk tuk. the location is lovely - you feel you are in an untouched pristine paradise like beach! the staff are also great. amal and romesh looked after us very well - they went to the market, cooked, drove us places and also found us a great local beautician to dress us in a sari for...

Me and my friend came to Thalpe to relax, we were pleasantly surprised to find such a little gem in paradise. Lata and Dush took such good take care of us, we were sad to leave. The hospitality made us feel at home. Beautiful lush grounds, clean pool, good design. I would stay here again in a heartbeat!

Great intimate boutique hotel with only 9 rooms. Great service (we were the only people staying during our 4 day trip) The staff are very friendly and attentive. We had a fantastic stay at the Footprints Villa, the Villa itself is beautiful, feels rather a private villa than a hotel, and the staff is very nice, and helpful, they make you feel home. Service was excellent and they gave us an upgrade which was great. Breakfast was lovely and staff extremely pleasant. We loved that their were monkeys right on our doorstep. this was an absolute great find and was the best of comparably priced hotels in southern sri lanka on the beach. food is fantastic, typical hotel prices but absolutely top notch- we ended up eating most meal there! the hotel only has 8 rooms, and feels like a private villa. all faculties and rooms very clean. salt water pool is great. we tried to stay in jetwing lighth...

This visit was my tenth visit to Apa Villa over the past 7 years. I have stayed their with my child, with my parents, with my friends and for a romantic weekend with my husband. We enjoyed a marvellous stay at Villa Mayurana. The piece of paradise is tucked away in Unawatuna and boasts a huge area of land with stunning flowers and greenery. Satin Doll was a gorgeous place to stay. We loved the rooms and the lovely shaded pool and meals by the ocean. Staff were very friendly and accommodating. Food was excellent, though a bit overpriced. There's direct access to a beautiful, secluded beach, but keep in mind this beach is too rocky to swim in. You have to go about a kilometer down to Unawatuna for swimming....

Very relaxed , cosy and comfortable, like staying in a private house with wonderful staff .and no need to lock rooms or have room number. V refreshing. No set meal times , dinner bought in fresh if ordered by 5pm. And food delicious . Great ambience , good deep swimming pool , small beach but good for amble etc . Not swimming. The towns around are small and nice people and if need a better place for shopping its the Galle town in which you get all in there with loads of things to see and loads of restaurants, Its 15 minutes away
Great beach side restaurants. We recommend Kingfisher. Cool little shops to go in and out of on the streets.
It's a relaxed place really friendly, a bit like Thailand beach places but much smaller, price friendly so good for the budget traveller as well as everyone else there are plenty of upmarket options for everything, shop here it's less expensive and competitive than a lot of other places
Unawatuna is great with the night life and central point of all vacationers to get together at one location.
Unawatuna is a good place to stay for its beach and nature. It is a good place for relaxation. There is one anoying thing that there are lots of local people who tried to sell you something on the beach.
Not much to do. No bars or nightclubs at all, only some in hotels. No ATM in unawatuna. Very nice beach only during the right time of year which is winter.
either love or hate. if you are looking for night life like pataya thailand and this place is not at all for you.
Crowdy beach not far from Galle, you can enjoy Galle fort site (easy and unexpensive acces by local bus) and spend some time in the beach.
High waves - but toward the temple at the far end of the beach is more quiet and better for children.
Lovely beach with lots of restaurants opening onto the beach. Water clear and warm. Took Tuk Tuk ride to Jungle Beach - a small beach with only one restaurant serving great fresh seafood.
Quiet place. Though the hotels at Unawatuna beach are small and have very limited capacities, you can find a large number of hotels most of them having opening to the beach.
I prefer the highland like Ella and Kandy, very cooling, we are there in Dec already quite hot, I believe the mid year will be worst.
It is a great place to explore the beaches of Southern Sri Lanka The beaches are superb all the way down the coast but Unawatuna probably offers the best selection of restaurants Plus you can swim in the sea at these beaches and further down the coast you can't It is worth at least 5 nights of any trip to the South and it is about a 2 hour trip to Mirissa beach which is also fantastic and also safe after this down to Tangalle has some of the best beaches but it is a small town but you can't swim
Watch out! The half of the beach simply disappeared. The city is very crowded, full of 1-star hotels and cheap tourists, mainly Russian.
Walk along the beach and one can visit different bars and taste the food they offer. If a traveler prefers to surf, one could do so at the Unawatuna beach.
Unawatuna is a lovely village on the South coast. The village where all the bars and restaurants are in very vibrant and good to take a walk down to stop and admire all it has to offer.
Main street has plenty of small shops and the beach is lined with bars and restaurants. A beautiful temple overlooks the white sand beach and the local people could not be friendlier.
Relaxing beach bay. Interesting restaurants and much more chilled vibe than Hikkaduwa. Wijeya Beach is a highlight for good food and relaxation.
