Where to stay in Sigiriya
Sigiriya hotels & accommodations

The architecture and design of the hotel rooms, main building and whole site is well thought through and stunning in its layout. It combines the best of contemporary with the best of Sri Lanka, effortlessly managing to capture the two in one hotel. The main building is modern but it does not lose sight of the most important aspects. The Spa is a traditional Sri Lanka...

This hotel is a legendary hotel in Sigiriya area, and most famous for its Sigiriya Rock view directly from its swimming pool. The Standard Room we stayed in is also nice, although it is quite obvious that certain parts of the room are aging and therefore require renovation. The bathroom is newly renovated, as it looks new and modern, with powerful shower and stable h...

We stayed for a night in order to go up Sigiriya very early in the morning, which it was perfect for as literally around the corner. Also right next to a whole strip of restaurants which was very convenient. It's beautifully decorated in colonial style. We booked it as was much cheaper than some other hotels in the area but honestly don't know why as really was lovely!...

We stayed here on our first night in Sri Lanka and after a long and hot day of travelling it was an absolute delight to be able to have our first night in such a lovely spot on the lake with lots of wildlife. We enjoyed the pool and the rooms were great with an enormous bed, seperate lounge area and big bathroom. We were exhausted so had room service for dinner which...

We found a really good deal on Agoda which meant we were able to book in for 3 nights, we normally stick to more modest accommodation as we travel for longer periods (Sri Lanka for 3 weeks this trip) so we found this place to be absolute paradise. The location is perfect to visit the surrounding sights (Sigiriya, Dambulla, Polonnaruwu) and the hotel itself has a beauti...

Signature = (luxury?) part of Amaya Lake. Fantastic room (for 3 persons, incl teenage daughter), in splendid gardens at lakeside, with plenty of birds & some small wildlife. Nice pools : 1 big (Amaya Lake?) and 1 a bit calmer (Signature?) Nice main restaurant (buffet), and also a very romantic (Signature side?) à la carte at poolside (with stars in the sky & in the poo...

After staying in a lot of budget accommodation on Sri Lanka this hotel was a welcome luxury. The pool was huge and our children enjoyed it very much. Head of Food and Beverage had outstanding customer service and made us feel so welcome. We ended up staying an extra day. Only criticism is that the room wasn’t serviced daily and supplies of coffee, toilet paper, etc. we...

i have been living in sri lanka for about 6 months and a friend came to visit. during his stay, we did some traveling around the country. our last two nights were spent at the jetwing vil uyana. i had booked a "standard" room, which is different from the bungalow type rooms that are more common on the premises (and more expensive). our "standard" room was a great value...

This is a beautiful resort and all rooms are massive villas with private plunge pools. The staff are wonderful and always smiling and happy. Close to Sigiriya and Minnelya for day trips. You get around this massive resort on free bicycles. The pool is lovely set right into the bush surrounds with hammocks and a bar next to it. It felt so peaceful. Breakfast was t...

Our 3 night stay at Kumbukgaha couldn't have been more perfect. The staff were all wonderful, incredibly friendly and very helpful. The room was huge and really lovely with a very comfortable bed. The outdoor bathroom was great. We went at the start of the rainy season and enjoyed a couple of warm showers in the pouring rain. The pool was great, and we especially enjoy...

Plus: Pool area (although king kong increases the theme park feeling), staff is super friendly, food is truly one of the best I had in Sri Lanka (just don't take ice cream which is crystalized because of melting/refreezing Negative: Bathroom is Spartan (I didn't shower for two days...) and needs paint (felt unclean as a consequence, next to the two day resident giant...

The little resort is a nicely maintained paradise with ecological background. It consists of several high level bungalows in a large garden, which are cleaned twice a day and give you a homely jungle feeling. There are many animals (wild monkeys, birds, lizards, peacocks, chickens, etc...) and the casual elefant (once a year (,-)) coming by in front of your terrace or ...

We are staying for 3 weeks in sri lanka and so far this is without a doubt THE BEST hotel we did. Its VERY clean everywhere, everything is Maitnanced well, pool is never overcrowed and staff is very friendly and helpful ! Breakfast is ok so is diner. Only thing would be the shower it was leaking and not much pressure but i'm thinking this is typical here we sax this ...

I had a very pleasant stay at Fresco Water Villa. The room was very comfortable and modern in terms of layout and furniture. I was very pleased with the quality of the F&B offering at the hotel as well. The hotel is also only a 10 minute car ride away from the Sigiriya rock, the main tourist attraction in the area. Overall, I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone...

We stayed 4 nights at Deer Park and used it as our base to travel out of. View to lake (tank) is beautiful and stunning in the evenings. Pool area was lovely with 2 large pools amidst lush green gardens. Staff were very helpful and went out of their way to make us comfortable. Rooms vary quite a bit, but we were lucky and were upgrdaed to one of the newest with great v...

The resort was situated in quite a secluded location but it’s all good to get away from the noise and dust. Mosquito fogging was done regularly. The room was clean with all good amenities. Buffet breakfast and dinner were fantastic, dessert station had a good selection of pastries and they were all delectable! The serving staff were very attentive and efficient. A spec...

We had a wonderful stay in Royal Retreat Sigiriya. The hotel is super nice and the room is spacious . The buffet dinner is worth to try , the dishes are super nice and price is very reasonable . All the hotel staff are very friendly and helpful. We would like to go back again on our next visit.

We stayed in Cassandra for 3 nights and had the most fantastic experience due to the excellence of the staff of the hotel. In particular, the main manager, Shihan, could not do enough for us - nothing was too much trouble! He gave us great insight about the local area, best ways to see everything nearby in the most cost effective way as well as him allowing us to be sh...

If you're after some peace and quiet and to enjoy the tranquility of nature, look not further. The villas are separated from one another which gives you the feeling of complete seclusion. I had the two-storey villa which had a balcony on the second floor with a view of the lake which was great to wake up to. Kumar and his team are incredibly friendly (as were most peop...

All tho we had a pleasant enough stay this place is not for everyone. We had a trouble finding it and couldn't ring for directions as agoda didn't provide us with the phone number of the property. Location is quite remote so it depends what are you looking for. Rooms are spacious, unique and clean however I found them bit too dark. Pool area was bit too shady for my li...

Arrived to a friendly welcome, given a cold flannel ,drink and asked to light the " candles. Check in quite quick and hassle free . Location was in a wonderful setting . Room, a big let down ,even being very big ,with working Air Con. If you want to enjoy sights like sigiriya, dambulla or polonnaruwa, but without the hustle - Rice villa is the place to be. Very nicely situated in a rice field, you can enjoy nature and tranquility. The owner can arrange easy transports to all the sights of the region as well as tranfer to colombo airport. THe staff is very friendly and we really felt at home; they ...

One of the nicest places we have staying in Sri Lanka. The hotel is a 10/15 min walk from the town, but there is a 5min shortcut to the bus station. Hotel offers free transport into town, (if you don't want to eat dinner in the hotel) and to the Dambulla Caves. Breakfast is great and so was dinner. Rooms very clean. Staff are very friendly and advise on local attractio...

We stayed back in August, 2014. We arrived from Trinco.... enroute to Negombo to catch our flight back home. We wanted to stop in Dambulla, to visit the famous Dambulla Caves. Upon our arrival, we learned that the caves were close to 1.5 hours away and visiting them would be impossible. Resigned that we were not seeing the caves this trip to Sri Lanka, we settled in fo...
Cheap places to stay in Sigiriya

It's a nice place to relax and just chill. There are quite a few attractions in the surrounding areas too. The staff are very friendly but also let you get on with what you want to do. They are not at all overbearing like some of the other places I've stayed in in Sri Lanka. It's also one of the few hostels that I've come across so you'll likely come across fellow back...

We did not end up staying here but that was only because there was no air conditioning. The rooms were clean and we had no problem with the hotel other than that there was no air con. It is a little remote but this made it very quiet. Ordinarily we would be very happy to stay here. The manager was very friendly and very helpfull.

I'm a permanent traveller, 3 years on the road, I have seen some guesthouses, and this one is reeeeally good. It's a room with private entrance and private bathroom in the family house. Vee is very friendly, helpful and accomodating, the room is nice and cool, no aircon needed, has beautiful decor, perfect condition, and the bed is so comfy, I would put it in the top 5...

We stayed here one night before going to Dambulla, and found unexpectedly Bandula guest house. This is such a charming house, with different kinds of rooms, we took budget one and that was perfect, clean, comfy with a little table and two chairs in front, view on bandula's beautiful garden with a family of mongoose living next (cute !). Bandula himself and his family a...

We stay in this lovely place for two nights. The family of three was the best host that we had on our trip. We also had dinner and breakfast here. The food was delicious. With the owner, we arrange the excursion to the lion rock Sygiria and Polanoruwa. He was really nice driver. We are glad that we met and stayed with this family for two days. Totally recommend this pl...

I spent (unfortunatelly) only 1 night in this hotel. But it was great! The hosts are amazing, really friendly and helpfull. We arrived late in the night and they welcomed us with hot tea. Next day we started our sightseeing early in the morning and they prepared us delicious home made breakfast (coconut roti, coconut pancakes, great coffee, fresh fruits). They arranged...

This accommodation is just lovely! The rooms are big, the surroundings are fantastic. The house is close to Dambulla lake and not to far from Dambulla (takes 5 min with Tuk-tuk). The family is so sweet and the wife makes such tasty food and BIG portions. The rooms are clean, big and a very good value for the money. The toilet is fresh and the shower has warm water. ...

Great experience! We came there with a sprained ankle. First the nephew took care of it using singhale medicine, then a neighbour helped to reduce the swelling. The day after the owner helped again with singhale medicine. The little daughter kept askng whether the ankle was getting better. The nephew helped us getting up the nearby rock for free including Infos like a...

My friend Molly and I shared a room at Agoda and it was one of my favorite memories in Sri Lanka. Karu and the rest of the hosts (an amazing family) were extremely accommodating and will arrange transport and cook you the best curry you will have in Sri Lanka. We spent two hours playing with their two young sons, who are adorable. The homestay is also in an extremely c...

Pathmi and her family are welcoming and caring, and provide an excellent room with amazing food everyday. I was made to feel at home and got on with the kids quickly so much so that they went to the Rock with me. I absolutely love this family and it was difficult to say goodbye after only 4 days! My 4 days were perfect in every sense. I visited all the sites I wanted t...

Fab experience. Family run rooms on side of family house. Best way to stay and visit Sigiriya, would thoroughly recommend. True Sri Lanka experience with a lovely family. Being looked after and brought tea and tuk tuk lifts made a lovely stay perfect. Would thoroughly recommend. Check location on map before arriving....

A very nice facility in the middle of a forest by not so far from the main road. We got a tent for our family and it was very nice to spend the night in the middle of the wilderness. The owners and the volunteers were very nice and helpful. Though it was for young backpacker travellers but we booked on purpose for our family with teenage kids for adventure and it came ...

We spent a nice time in nihal's homestay. His wife was a very good cooker when they proposed us to prépare the dinner on site (count 700Rps each). The homestay can be difficult to find, it is located on the left side of the road when you come from Dambula, just before the Royal Retreat Hostel. Furthermore no message on site. We really recommend this address.

Had a wonderful two night stay at Green Bamboo. Both breakfasts were great and the Sri Lankan dinner she made us was my favourite in all of Sri Lanka. Lots of food and the taste was unreal. I asked for it not to be spicy and everything was perfect. Tuk tuk services we used at a fair price and even helped us where to go after Sigiriya. Clean spacious rooms. A bit of a w...

If you are looking to visit Dambulla and Sigiriya, Takeshi INN is the perfect location for both these destinations. Before We book this hotel we see bad Reviews on agoda but my friend recommend this place to us. This was probably the best place we’ve stayed in Sri Lanka. Nice room and clean with an outdoor seating area, beautiful garden, amazing breakfast and dinner. We did our safari through them and saw 100s of elephants! And they even drove us to pidurangala rock and back. This is definitely the place to stay if you go to Sigiriya!

Easy to find. Rooms are big n clean. Welcomed with a complimentary drink and refreshing towel. Near to dambulla cave temple n sigiriya lion rock, 30mins +/- per journey by car. Can try the Sri Lankan cuisine at Sakura Village Restaurant just 5mins walk from resort. But it gets real dark at nite as there arent street lights.

A gem hidden off the beaten track, surrounded by jungle but rising to a magnificent vista of mountains and the lake. A very warm family atmosphere with the restaurant, pool, communal and bar areas opening out to face the view. The food was superb. Each morning & evening a buffet of spectacular srilankan dishes as well as old favourites. The monkeys nearly came in o...

It was a very good stay, the hotel is on the highway to habarana. If you have your own transport then this is a good place to make base and visit places in Anuradhapura, Polonnaruwa, Dambulla and sigiriya. What a beautiful stay I had in Dambulla! I stayed in the dorm (I messed up my booking and they were full otherwise) for one night and for two more nights in a cheaper room. The dorm was extremly spacious with a beautiful bathroom, it even had a rain shower! Also my other room was really nice. You could see that the person that planned these rooms really cared about his...

My wife and I stayed here for 2 nights planning to go to Sigiriya and Polonnaruwa (which is in close proximity to the hotel) and had a wonderful stay. The staff greeted us pleasantly and with such enthusiasm they managed to win our hearts immediately. They organized a Safari for us and advised us on the travel plans so that we will not tire ourselves but rather enjoy t...

we stayed at 5 different hotels throughout our 10-day vacation across sri lanka, all of which were equivalent to 4-5 star establishments. without a doubt, lake lodge boutique hotel, kandalama is the utmost best we stayed at, based on top notch services rendered, food & beverage quality, guestroom comfort & amenities, as well as its ideal location - offering tranquility...

This place was so quiet and beautiful. The owner does everything and is an incredible chef. He is super friendly and will go out of his way to help you. He needs more staff because there is very little information for you there, so bring a lonely planet book. Wifi works great and so do the outdoor showers. I will definitely return here. about a 15 minute motorbike ren...

Spent two nights here while exploring Sigiriya, Dambulla and Minneryia National Park. It is a secluded spot near the lake, with parrots and various brightly coloured birds occupying the surrounding trees. Super relaxing. The staff are fantastic and can’t do enough to help. There is nowhere nearby to explore so you’re confined to the hotel unless you grab a tuk tuk/taxi...

Decent place. Place is run by a local family. The place is hard to find and is in the middle of town. They have three bedrooms. They are building more rooms. It's definitely a family affair. I would recommend the place. Keep in mind this is not your regular hotel with pool, spa, etc. However, it is very authentic and done with taste. The food was very good local food. ...

Hosts were very friendly and informative. Don’t buy tickets to safari online as Host can provide better details in regards to which safari (Minneriya or Kdaulla) has more elephants depending on time of year you are visiting Sri Lanka. Room we stayed in had a plug converter which was very convenient Closet had a lock for security Location was great, Cave temple and...

we stayed at the Sigiri Regal for four nights. It is a small guesthouse with two rooms in a new separate building. The rooms share a large, shady terrace that was great to sit on. It is in a great location, a quieter area, a few kilometers away from the busy area around Sigiriya Rock. It is close enough to get to the sights easily. A/C worked well and the shower was ...

The host is the kindest person we met in Sri Lanka. He was so nice, so kind, smiling , welcoming...we felt like being home Also the food was absolutely amazing , you definitely have to try the dinner and the breakfast. Both are really complete, local and incredibly delicious. We only can recommend it, go there!!

I did not expected such a nice cottage style hotel in Sri Lanka. Guest can keep peaceful privacy. I felt like staying own second house in Sri Lanka. I had great stays there, love the pool as well as nice interior of the cottage. Staff is always provide best service, kind hospitality I received. I already recommended several friends who is thinking to visit Sri Lanka....

Can’t recommend enough! Large, spotlessly clean room. Beautiful hosts who are only too happy to help as and when needed. Great breakfast. Far enough away from town to be peaceful, but close enough to walk in for dinner. Close to The Rock. Best place in Sri Lanka!

We thoroughly enjoyed our three night stay at Neelanta's place. He was incredibly friendly and kind. From taking us on day trips to Lion Rock and Polonnaruwa, always looking after us and even picking us up late at night from the centre of Sigiriya. I would definitely recommend it here! Thank you.

We highly recommend this guesthouse as a place to stay near Sigiriya. The owner is very nice and has lots of helpful tips. The dinner is to die for! He also did what felt like several special favors for us while ...

Sungreen is a new resort in Habarana. From there you can visit Minneriya national park, Sigiriya, Dambulla, polonnaruwu, and many more places. This is the most amazing hotel in all of Sri Lanka! The rooms were spacious and very modern, as the hotel only opened in March 2018. All of the staff were exceptional. Nothing was too much trouble. A small place with numerous stay options. Can use it as a base for Anuradhapur, Polannuwara and elephant Safaries
quite surrounding places, lots of Guest House near the Lion rock area, can do some jungle exploring & hiking, very nice area
Preferable to hire a personal driver as the location is far from Colombo and the places of attractions are rather far from from each other.
Sigirya is an ancient city with a Lion Rock to climb and it's barely the only thing to do there. If you like to see elephants in natural conitions, the Minneriya National Park is worth the visit (not the price).
I've only visited Sigiriya Rock, It's good overally. It's good for those love to stay with nature. Night life is light, and food is quite local.
It is a small town and its proximity to Dambulla and Pollanaruwa makes it that much more significant.
In addition to visiting the Sigiriya rock, another interesting location 30kM away is Ritigala an ancient Buddhist monastary sporting probably the world's first hospital, herbal gardens, granite paved huge pool, paved ways with pavements, rock slab bridges, stone urinal, stone pillows, ponds & caves.
Amazing city with a colossal historical background. There are loads of monuments, ruins and temples with a rich cultural history to be discovered.
We didn't climb the rock, because it was too hot, but we walked aroud. We went to a day trip to Dambulla and the temple there is a MUST SEE.
It is the highlight of our trip. After one and a half hour of slow climb, we managed to reached the top to view the ruins of a palace with a disused swimming pool.
I spent 2 days in the area, stayed at Sigiriya village and shopped at the local 'touristy gift shops'.
Great climb to the top of the fortress in the sky. Helpful little chaps to assist if you struggle. Couldn't have made it with out it.
Walking up sigiriya rock was one of my highlights of Sri Lanka. The Asperia rock wall paintings are fantastic.
The Rock is so big and high but when you reach to the top of the rock, it's amazing up there that you will never forget to the rest of your life.
There is one attraction, the Lion's Rock, but the day you do the climb is such a day you will remember the rest of your life, very recommendeble! And this is not only because of the beautiful frescoes of the Nymphs.
It's worth the climb up the sigiriya rock to see the vast expanses of land. There is nothing much to see in Dambulla except the cave.
Apart from food poisoning in our hotel on the last day the food in Dambulla was amazing. The fresh fruit is superb.
