Port Elizabeth hotels & places to stay

This is an old hotel with some nice features. The lounge area is warm and friendly and the hotel is situated just over the road from one of the nicest beaches in Port Elizabeth. Its a stones throw from the Boardwalk Casino as well as other restaurants and spots on the beach. The rooms are spacious and clean but the bathrooms only have a bath/shower....no separate shower. Not a deal breaker though. It's rated 4-stars but I would probably say its more of a 3-star hotel. I only checked in at around midnight and tried to order a salad and a glass of wine but was told that they only had sandwiches and no wine! All in all not a bad hotel and would stay there again when on business.

The spa was excellent. He rooms were large, with a comfortable king bed and an amazing shower and bath combo. The rooms and hotel were kept clean throughout ur stay. The area felt very safe to walk around at all times of the day and night. (Pleased to see only a few electric/barbed fences in this area). Unfortunately the spas location leaves it quite a distance from any positive attraction apart from De Kelder (the best restaurant so far in South Africa). The BoardWalk is around 15-20 minutes walk away and then it's a further 10-15 minutes to the Humewood restaurants, which is more the layout of PE rather than the hotels shortcomings. The restaurant at Isango is hit and miss. Dinner the first night was delicious and well presented. Room service the following night and then dinner on our final night were both less than satisfactory. (Perhaps a different chef). Staff were also very friendly, however there never seemed to be a bartender available for drinks by the pool and when calling reception at night or early mornings there were times when no one answered.

Lovely spacious room and bathroom with tea/coffee station and bathroom accessories like shampoo, soap, shower cap and body lotion. Air con was noisy in our room and we asked for a sea-facing room which had a lovely view over the harbour but the noise from traffic and road below!!! I'll definitely stay again but will request a back facing room with no view, but I would rather have a good night's sleep. I have just returned from a three night stay at the City Lodge Port Elizabeth, whilst attending the SA Society of Aaesthesiologists annual congress. Everything was fantastic with real value for money. Location is really a five minute walk to the Boardwalk Hotel and Conference Centre. Rooms are clean, comfortable and well appointed. Service is very good. This is like a mini five star hotel without the five star prices. Only thing is the breakfast is expesive at R165 but the spread is very good. Still, there is only so much one can eat, and R165 is expensive, when you can get restaurant breakfasts across the road for less than half the price.

We enjoyed a three night stay at Hacklewood Hill Country House and were delighted with our spacious room and bathroom. The staff couldn't have been more helpful and attentive. The house itself has an interesting background and has many original features. We had a lovely evening meal at the hotel and some tasty breakfasts. A great place to stay when going to Port Elizabeth.

No 5 is a hotel located in a quiet street 5 minutes from seafront in Port Elizabeth. It is an absolutely stunning hotel with the most beautiful rooms. It is art deco themed and stuffed with fantastic furniture pieces and amazing works of art. We stayed in the suites situated across the road and we were absolutely delighted with the spacious, luxurious accommodation. We also had dinner and breakfast there, both of which were delightful. Highly recommended.

The best thing about the place was the staff, Gloria and Randell , Both New at thier work had been exceptional. They went out of their way to make us feel comfortable and had been so accommodating that we felt they were part of our family. (I have stayed in many hotels round the world which we cannot compare to as this was a lodge / B&B type place) , however the service we received were beyond 5 star which even the best hotels could not compare to. I honestly wish I could have Randel and Gloria as my personal home helpers

My husband and I stayed at the Carslogie House for our 1 night. The owner was there to greet us, showed us around, and gave great pointers about the Port Elizabeth area. The room was beautiful with a large bathroom and was right off the pool area. At breakfast, the owner provided a delicious breakfast and great coffee. This B&B felt more like a resort than a traditional B&B!

Even if we stayed only 16 hours at Cape Flame it was a very pleasant experience with very attentive and friendly staff. Unfortunately we could not experience the breakfast buffet as we had to leave around 5.15am but they did make a copious cold breakfast available for us the night before. We shall without doubt recommend it to our friends visiting Port Elizabeth. In the above survey about food we chose 3 (average) because 'not applicable' is not available.

Staff members are all super friendly and helpful but unfortunately our room was not ready at arrival. Indicated check in time between 1 and 2 pm on the booking. Staff was really nice and requested we return at 3.30pm as they had a group booking that checked out late. We arrived back at 3.40pm but room was still not ready. We were told at reception that we can check out at 11.30 am the next day because of the hold up, yet at 9.30am staff arrived and woke us up to clean the room.

We stayed 2 nights at the Beachwalk at the beginning of our trip to South Africa at the beginning of March. When we arrived we had a very friendly welcome from the owner, Lea, and her 2 dogs. She showed us to our room (No. 1) and we were wowed. It had everything we could possibly need, including a fridge and microwave also some candles in case there was load shedding (power cuts). The ensuite had a bath, shower, toilet and basin and there were towels and toiletries provided. The large double bed was very comfortable and we had two good nights sleep. It had a lovely outlook with a small table and chairs outside the door looking onto the lush garden and a splash pool and there was a small bottle of bubbly and some chocolates as a welcoming touch. We were given keys to come and go as we please. Later we met Michael, the manager, who was extremely helpful and gave us some useful tips for places to go to eat and things to see and do. I'll review the places we visited separately, but I can recommend going to Barneys. I have difficulty in walking very far and managed all of these easily from the Beachwalk as it was in an ideal location. We also felt very safe walking around the neighbourhood even at night. Breakfast at the Beachwalk was very good with plenty to choose from, although we stuck to the traditional cooked breakfast which was beautifully done and presented. We wished we could have stayed longer, but we had booked our next accommodation along the Garden Route. However, the Beachwalk really set a very high standard for our other accommodation to live up to if they were going to match it in anyway.

We got picked up by the son of James from the airport, he explained us a bit about Port Elizabeth city and drove us near to a township because we told them we never saw any township yet :) Port Elizabeth is pretty safe city and Forest Hall Guest House is well decorate, room is beautiful and comfortable. It was rainy day when we arrived, but yet we felt great when we arrive to the guest house. On the next day morning, we saw they have a lovely garden as well. Breakfast was great too. I would definitely recommend this lovely guest house to everyone !

We stayed in room eight for a week whilst attending a family wedding. The room was huge, with a separate living area and a balcony which overlooked the sea. The staff were very welcoming and knowledgeable on the activities to do around Port Elizabeth. Parking is within the secure hotel compound so no worries there! A good range of hot and cold items available at breakfast. Next time I'm in Port Elizabeth I'd love to stay there again.

The Treetops Guesthouse is a very quaint B&B located very close to the Airport. When we arriveed, we called Steven and he was there in 5 Minutes to pick us up. Steven has a Wonderful personality that is very welcoming. He not only recommend a restaurant for dinner, he drove we to Bocadillos, which, by the way was also wonderful. The guesthouse has courtyards and a pool area, which Steven has wonderfully decorated with art and trinkets. This is were I would book, if I ever return to Port Elizabeth.

From the moment we saw the secure gate and parking within we knew we were going to have a great time at this accommodation. Reception were brilliant fun and so welcoming, inviting us to choose for dinner. The room was fantastic with all amenities and a massive bath for weirry travellers. The Rock shower at the back of room 2 was unique and worth the photo. Food was exceptional and the ambience outstanding. Loved every second of our stay.
