"We stayed at the Calm Resort for 4 nights as part of a 3 week trip around Sri Lanka and chose this hotel as a place to relax from our other more active and adventurous places visited. The hotel is very nice and clean and right on the beach. We were upgraded to a garden villa room which I would recommend over the deluxe rooms due to the proximity to the pool and the restaurant. We had room 504 which was fantastic, very spacious, clean, great bathroom and doors that opened to a small verandah and the grassed area. We walked up and down the beach every day and dropped into the adjacent hotels to see what they were like. We were happy that we had chosen the Calm resort as the grounds and facilities seemed better or equal to its neighbours and the atmosphere at the Calm seemed better. Great pool area, gym and restaurant with live music every night. Food was excellent with a fantastic all you an eat buffet breakfast included. We considered eating at the other nearby hotels in our visits to them but the food always seemed better at ours so we ate there. A special thank you to Priya the Executive chef who looked after us when had a small problem with the cooking of our food on one night, however they resolved it to our satisfaction. Also to our room cleaner Pirathees and to the waiter Marley who both provided great service and attention to detail. The rooms were good value especially in comparison to what is being charged by the hotels on either side of the Calm. I would have given the hotel five stars for value except the drink prices are very high, and seem to be at all the hotels we visited in Kalkudah. I recommend the hotel bring the prices down in line with other major Sri Lanka hotels all alternatively bring your own. Also as a note if you organize your own driver to pick you up and take you to the next location we had a problem getting him into the hotel driveway. The hotel claimed it had to do with security but we were later told they wanted a 20% commiss"

"Sunrise by Jetwing is nothing short of tranquil and mesmerizing. It can also boast of one of the largest Infinity Pool in Sri Lanka. Being in my Honeymoon, we wanted peace, lesser crowd and an endless stretch of white sandy beaches at offering. We surely were not disappointed for our stay of three days. The food we tried there is clearly one the best in whole of Sri Lanka and it was delectable. The only thing that disappointed me is the unavailability of Spa Services at the time we were there. If they can add to that, it shall be a perfect secluded property for people to bask by the beach and absorb the sun."

"This is a lovely new resort complex on the East Coast of Sri Lanka. And I can understand its appeal for family groups. It has a great outdoor area which backs directly onto the beach. The pool is great also - and the Room we stayed in was fantastic! Great place to just relax and chill and have a respite from the under development in most parts of Sri Lanka. This was really a one night treat for us before we headed further south to Arugam Bay. The disappointment for us was that it felt like we had stepped into Hawaii and were part of a bad Adam Sandler or Ben Stiller Movie. At dinner with Mariachi bands and food that catered for everything other than Sri Lankan Cuisine. And a 'westernised atmosphere'. Not my idea of a "Sri Lankan Cultural experience' - shame really. I ordered the ONLY Sri Lankan dish on the dinner menu - and I have to say it was the worst Sri Lankan Curry dish I had during my stay in Sri Lanka this trip and previous visit two years ago. The cook spoke with us at breakfast the next morning - but offered excuses rather than a solution. Disappointing really!! I will say that the options for breakfast much better and I really did enjoy the Sri Lankan Breakfast items offered. Either way - a beautiful place to stay but do not expect to feel like you are still in Sri Lanka. Stay here if you want to escape the country you are visiting and feel like you are in another country. I do hope they revert and respect their own beautiful country and start showcasing their traditional music, dance and cultures going forward. "

"We were staying at Uga Bay for the final week of our two week stay in Sri Lanka. We spent the first week travelling around the island and then fancied relaxing for the final 8 nights and doing some scuba diving. When we arrived at Uga Bay there are huge doors that open up to let your car in. They make for a very special arrival because that’s the other side of those doors is quite special indeed. We were greeted by a friendly member of staff who gave myself and my wife [and our driver – whom we had come to love] a cold face towel and a refreshing drink. As our bags were brought through and the hotel checked us in we were blown away by the sheer beauty and architectural creativeness of the hotel. To get to the reception area you have to walk through a star-lit tunnel with running water either side of the walk-way and when you gaze through you see the pool, the beach and then the sea – a very clever design that gives the feeling of peace, tranquillity and luxury. The Bedroom After being checked in we were guided along the short walkway, past all the manicured lawns to our room. We were absolutely blown away again. The room was absolutely stunning. Not only did the room gaze out to sea over the lawns and past the palm trees but the décor, layout and standard of the room far surpassed the most luxurious hotels you would find in London. The room as impeccably clean, huge; has lots of soft well-upholstered furnishings, a huge bed with excellent quality linen, a bathroom big enough to sleep a family and a sensational view of the beach as well. The room has all the mod cons you would expect including a huge flatscreen TV. There was also some great little touches that made the room very special as well like the flip-flops, the terracotta bowl outside of the room to wash your sandy feet before you go in, the balcony/terrace. A helpful hint – all the rooms seem to have a sea view! The Grounds Once we were settled in we enjoyed scoping out the hotel and all the things to do"

"Amazingly beautiful resort right next to the BEST beach I have ever been on. Gorgeous views, almost zero other people, warm waters and the smoothest sea floor I have ever walked on or swam in. The resort is perfect for unwinding and relaxing, but if you want to experience everyday Sri Lankan life this is not the best place to do that - the closest village is a few kilometres away and is very very small (the positive side of that is that you won't see a single tourist there, but the negative is that there isn't much to do). The only slightly negative side to the restort was the food -- it was very standard resort fare, quite western and expensive, and nothing special in any shape or form. Even the local items on the menu were not nearly as good as any we ate in other places in Sri Lanka. But besides the very standard "resorty" buffet food everything was just about as good as you could want or expect! But make sure to bike into the village to buy fresh fruit!!!! It was AMAZING!! :)"

"After traveling through Sri Lanka for four weeks we decided to spent our last days on a resort on the east coast. We wanted something luxurious, quiet and rather small. We found the perfect place with Giman Free. It's a new resort, it opened only a few month ago, with ten bungalows with each two or four rooms and with a private beach directly in front of the bungalows. The rooms are grand, with a well equipped bathroom. Beds are really good. All is build in a wonderful spacious setting. There is a beautiful little pool with beds around it. Waking up with just the sound of the sea is magic. Breakfast is superb, an intriguing mix of English and Sri Lanka style breakfast with proper coffee. Diner is a variety of tastes, there is a real chef who knows what he is doing. The staff is awfully friendly and tries to for fill every (unspoken) wish. Our last night dinner was served on the beach, just for the fun of it. Giman free is highly recommended."
