Where to stay in Kunming
Kunming hotels & accommodations

We booked 2 rooms and stayed 5 nights. Everything was over expectation. Hotel is well maintained very clean, excellent breakfast buffet with superb view!! Special thanks to the house keeping staffs who cleaned our rooms. Everyday we come back to clean n nicely made up space. Each lady is responsible to clean the entire floor with 15-20mins per room and does a really am...

So convenient to eating and souvenir shops. 10 mins walking distance to Kunming Train station. Airport bus shuttles are available at the entrance of the hotel and fare is Yuan 25/pax. The staff is friendly and some speak English. We have a wonderful trip and would highly recommend tourists to stay in this hotel.

Hotel nicely located by Kunming South Railway Station, less than 15 minutes away by taxi cab. Clean, awesome breakfast. My only problem is that there is a shuttle to the railway station in the morning that supposedly leaves at 6:45, 7:15 and 7:30 but you have to make a reservation. It was not said anywhere on the flyer that was posted in the lobby. It was fortunate...

The Silver Chest Boutique Hotel has absolutely beautiful grounds and rooms. The location is excellent--it is based in the middle of Kunming's Old Town, close to lovely shops, bars and restaurants. The staff has limited English, but still provided excellent service (e.g., transportation to various local and not so local (i.e., Stone Forest) tourist locations). They purc...

That was a heavy raining day in Kunming so I decided to stay at the Hostel~ The room is comfy and clean although there s a slightly smelly as my room is closed to the garage outside~ I guess it only happens to Room 105~so I jus closed the window and its fine~ and most of the time I spent on reading book at the Western style Cafe~the atmostphere with the soft music th...

we were pleasantly surprised with the excellent customer services upon checking in, without mentioning our special request in our booking, the reception gave us the type of room we asked for. the only downside is that with most china hotels, all rooms at new era are smoking rooms. the room we were in was spacious and clean, the bathroom was clean with a shower in a bat...

We loved this hotel! We ended up staying for 3 nights. The room is small but clean, great views from the 8th floor, huge and tasty chinese breakfast (though they do serve eggs, toast and coffee if you don't like noodles for brkfst) and the staff was super friendly even though they almost never understood what I was saying. Some of the best food in Kunming is right a...

I attend an academic conference at Kunming Golden Eagle Summit Hotel. The service was excellent with very good location where you may easily take a MRT for traveling. Also the famous Zhing-An Temple, lasting for more than 1000 years, is right next to the corner of the hotel. I enjoyed the travel very much and would definitely stay at Kunming Golden Eagle Summit Hotel f...

This hotel was hard to find...the taxi driver dropped us off at the Plateau Pearl Group and when we tried to check in, we were told that was not a hotel. The girl there was very nice and called us an uber using her phone. We paid her cash and she made sure to tell the driver to take us to the hotel. Apparently this happens all the time as there are other businesses wit...

We stayed there for 1 night on a sightseeing trip. The front office was helpful helping us to figure out the right bus station to go to Shilin (which is bit out of town) and spoke English well. However, as for sightseeing in Kunming, we realized that the area around Green lake would have been nicer

This was a great place to stay in Kunming. Rather easy to find and in a location close to public transportation. It was easy to get any where we wanted because the bus stops were just around the corner. The room was very large and clean. The staff were very helpful and nice. They spoke some English, but that has never been a problem for us even though we speak only a t...

If you can't communicate in Chinese, this is the best place for you. The hostel can provide the information for you such as map, bus No,, photos, brochure, and tour booking. We got the all convenience from here, and easy to go to the interesting place. From train station, you can take a bus No.64 and take off at Kunming daily bus stop (about 20 minutes), and then you wa...

Good breakfast spread, guest relation Officer can speak & understand English. Hotel is within walking distance of Kunming Metro station (Jiaosanqiao?). Taxi fare was only 10 Yuan from nearby shopping & pedestrian area (~ 2 km away, West of Hotel). Unfortunately, we were charged 10 Yuan for a “lost” ashtray during check out. Somehow, it went missing & we specifically ...

Good for a short stay if you are in Kunming. Room a little on the small side but i was upgraded on the two occasions I stayed at the hotel to a room facing off the main road so it was quiet and got some good rest. Located pretty much halfway between the Nan Ping Street city centre and Xiao Xi Men where there is a Walmart.

We traveled from Lijiang to Kunming via overnight train. The train arrived at 6am and we arrive at the hotel at 7am. Surprisingly, the hotel allowed us to check-in and we could take a rest before experiencing Kunming. It was very nice. Without that early check-in, we couldn't take a rest and would not have enjoyed Kunming so much. The hotel was conveniently located ...

From the airport in new Kunming, it is far. The hotel which is on the location for about 30 minutes by taxi.In an airport and a hotel, English is not understood mostly. I can't recommend to those who stay by transit. it was a big hotel, nobody was staying except us. And only for two staff. It was a strange hotel.feel like ghost hotel...It is true that other people ar...

One of the cheapest hotels in Kunming. Location is reasonably central and a 20min walk to the Green Lake. Caters for mainly Chinese business men with very few tourists. First night was put in a room which was quite dark and dusty with no hot water. Was moved to a different room which was a little brighter, clean, with hot water and internet access (for 15rmb a day). In...

When we arrived we were told that we don't sleep in the new and main building, but in the old one across the street which we could not see from the main building. This is what we booked they said. It was quite late in the night and we didn't want to walk to the other building. We piad additional 200 RMB to stay in the main building. The rooms were ok. The breakfast ver...

This place is $27. For that money, it's worth getting a hot shower, and a good rest. I had 12 hour layover in Kunming, and I really wanted to get a good shower and place that I can lay before another 12 hour flight. I was a little skeptical after reading all the reviews, but hey I'm glad I give it a shot. When I arrived at Kunming Airport, I went to the information cen...

Well appointed room for a 4* Chinese management hotel in Kunming, breakfast is better than 5* hotel in Kunming, well located to all tourist attractions: museum, park, old flower and bird market. Recommended for a short stay, room a bit small still acceptable for the price.

I have always choose Ibis as my first choice hotel because of its strategic location, cleanliness and sleek design. Ibis Styles Kunming Nanping is located in the city center, besides Zara and about 15 minutes walk to pedestrian street. However, my driver has to park at a nearby carpark on the first night we checked in because there was no parking lot. Fortunately, he w...

The hotel is not that closed to airport as it masked. The right location is 25.048973,102.887316 and takes 20minutes from Airport by car, can not be walk to. The owner is very kind and helpful. He can speak English well. I took this hotel because they provide free Airport pickup to hotel and arrange shuttle bus pickup to Airport only 20Rmb/person. The room is fairly go...

When arriving at the hotel at 5 AM because of a late flight we where told, there was no booking. The Agoda Voucher did not mean anything to the receptionist. It took two hours of discussions to be checked in. Contacting Agoda for help was quite impossible. At check out two days later we had another hour of quarrelling before the reception contacted Agoda for the firs...

This hotel is near with the big local market and very easy to find nice food all day and night. You can see local people and a little bit country side if we compare with the downtown of Kunming. The local market is lovely and food named "Mee Chiae" or rice noodle soup with pork and Yunnan spice are lovely near there and also cheap price. This hotel 's fantastic servic...

The location is about 1.2km from Kunming Railway Station, inside the China Continent Insurance Building. The lobby hotel is in level 8. For muslims, halal food is easy to find, just take a train to Wuyi Road from Dongfen Square (+-600m from the hotel). The room was very big and its really unexpected with the price offered. Staff is not really friendly but they are so h...

I had a good stay. I wanted to find somewhere reasonable and this was it. Out front there is a cool fruit and vegetable market and a friendly crowd. It does have a bit of a truck stop vibe. But I found it to be a pleasant place to stay. Luckily, a local friend drove me to this hotel. All the map co-ordinates are wrong by at least a block to the north? Anyway, my...

We had a 17-hour layover in Kunming and were looking for a hotel that was close to the airport and had airport pick-up. We found a few hotels that had pick-up, but almost all of the hotels seemed to be 20-30 km from the airport. The good thing about this hotel is that it is only a 10 minute drive from the airport. When we got to airport I was able to call the owner ...

Comfortable hotel. It is located away from the downtown, on a small back street of Kunming suburb, so it was hard to find it. Anyway, location makes it very quiet. I would stay here again. Staff is polite and tries to help. The bathroom design is a bit uncomfortable: shower and toilet are in separate section, and it is really hard to fit yourself in the toilet with the...

I've stayed at other locations of this chain in different parts of China. They've all been clean and neat with a helpful staff. The location of this propert in Kunming, however, was right next to what appeared to be a scrap metal yard and far from any conveniences other little neighborhood (Chinese style) shops. Metro was about 1/2 mile walk and Starbucks and Carrefour...

I usually stay here for stopovers, after trying several hotels in Kunming. It takes about 15 minutes by taxi from airport to the hotel, with fare around RMB 32 to 33 including toll fees.for up and down. Drivers ask toll fee of RMB 5 going back to the airport by arguing the distance to hotel is too short (and he earns insufficiently) and he needs to go to the airport ag...

Excellent location not far from Green Lake Park, Wenlin Jie, etc. It's a budget hotel, so expect a mediocre, the carpet is old, etc. But the rooms are very spacious with an oddly nice atmosphere coming from its tucked away location in a tree-lined alley. Hot water with good water pressure in the shower.

Though the hotel was a little hard for our taxi to find it was well worth it! Clean rooms, fresh sheets, clean bathrooms with friendly staff. I would highly recommend this hotel. Also they have a free airport drop off service. I'll definitely be staying there again.

The hotel is now under redecoration but it does not hinder our stay. It locates near the Green Lake with shops and resturant. But it is quite far from the East Bus Terminal Station where the L6 linked the new Changsui Airport. I suggest that the Hotel Management should arrange a Bus Transit to the Changsui Airport as the Zhong Yu Hotel does.

I'm not terribly picky but this hotel is not ideal as the last hotel after three weeks of traveling. Although the room is adequate, the night club on the 3rd floor can be heard from the 6th floor late at night. Breakfast finishes at 9 AM. That was too early for me. The worker at the business center couldn't arrange my tickets. Luckily I had friends in town who could he...

This is a four-star hotel in a central location, and apparently popular with local businessmen. The beds were extremely hard (the hardest we experienced during our entire trip) and were comparable to sleeping directly on plywood. The lampshades in both our rooms were spotted and stained, and one was completely broken. Upkeep of the rooms seemed lacking. We didn't con...

Good location and good level of comfort. Decent but basic breakfast. Handy to interesting parts of town with good local eateries in the street behind the hotel. Very little english spoken but enough to get by. Although they display exchange rates behind the front desk, they don't seem to want to change money for non-Chinese tourists.

my room was clean and well-kept, bedding mostly clean and bathroom looked sharp and clean, despite nicks starting to show in the furniture. I didn't see many facilities like meeting rooms or exercise rooms - it's just a place to sleep, but for that, it's great. despite the kunming subway construction going on outside. It is the best stop to transit to any other...

酒店的设施可以。各个部门的服务人员的态度认真 负责。 早餐的中式食品有特色,种类也不少。只是客房点餐的某些食物的烹饪有点敷衍了事。 管理SPA的服务人员很认真,但有不少蚊子。 The hotel facilities are relatively new. The staffs are friendly in general. The Chinese section of breakfast is much better and with more options. But the food order by room service can be better. The outdoor SPA service is a selling point, although there are quite a few annoy m...

There isn't any review of this hotel, was thinking since only sleep over for 1 night, i decided to take a gamble. When i checked in the hotel, it was really beyond my expectation. This hotel is in new condition and good for travellors if you want to go shopping in town or go sightseeing but do not misunderstanding about the distance from the kunming airport like us. It will take 30-45 mins, 20-30 km from the airport to hotel. Taxi drivers can' t speak English and will try to take you from the airport with no use of meter and the cost will be do...

I was on a flight that landed at midnight and had a connecting flight at mid-day. The hotel has a driver who picks up and drops off. My room looked exactly like advertised. I was just there to sleep so it served it’s purpose. And they have a receptionist who speaks English. My only complaints are that the room was cold even after I turned on the heater, a pillowcas...

A) please be aware that the hotel is near the Stone Forest, about 80 km away from Kunming B) Thhe hotel looks an feels new and probably is new C) it is about 6 km away from the main entrance of the Stone Forest, but there is also a small entrance less then 1 km away from the hotel when you walk back to town. If you use this entrance you save the time and money of goin...

This is a fantastic hotel with superb quality service provided by the stuffs. The hotel is situated though in a far remote area from the city center, it is the best hotel we have ever seen in China. This boutique hotel is only a 25-minute drive from Kunming Airport. Together with highway tax, the cab fare is almost 100 RMB. We alighted in front of a big signage with the hotel's name. However, the building next to the signage is not the hotel. We walked about 8m to behind of this building and found ourselves in front of a neat glassy building similar to the one in ...

Come to Kunming for the food. Try the Cross Bridge Rice noodles, fried cheese and so many more Yunnan delicacies that will leave your mouth watering.
Now Kunming is very dusty, people very commercial, the best is dun follow tourist guide. If you dun buy things they will show you a bad face.
a very developed city. though sometimes having traffic jam, the public transport ( bus & taxi) are convenient.
Kunming is the stop to many natural attractions. Have been to this city three times and will continue going.
5 years ago Kunming was a charming relaxed city - now its just another crowded ugly charmless Chinese city I would only go there to transit to more interesting places
Very new airport with excellent signing, clean, comfortable. City is low scale with relatively clean air.
its a gateway to many places of interest either by flight, bus or train or by tour. better to get the details written done in Chinese where you want to go from the hotel reception.
There isn't much within the city centre. Most attractions are at the outskirts and they are magnificent.
kunming is the stepping off point for all places in yunnan, good airport busses and metro to the south bus station .
KUNMING IS ONE OF THE BIG CITY OF CHINA, MODREN AND STILL DEVELOPING NOT SO MUCH POPULATED, FRIENDLY CITY AFTERALL.
All of the taxi at the airport are trying to get expensive fare. So have to negotiate the taxi fare before using taxi and outside of airport is more cheap then inside of airport.
There are a lot better places to visit around Kunming. If you can help it, you may skip it and head to Dali or Lijiang.
A visit to the temple and the University and a walk around Green Lake to watch the locals doing Tai Chi all really interesting and easy things to do while in Kunming.
I think is nice place to really live, now china is more open and good, just not at all speck English, need have someone that can speak Chinese
the city is quite clean compared to many other cities and people seem more friendly. I like the shopping area in the city center a lot.
The long haul bus stations are not organized well. Transport from there to city centre (taxi) is not well developed.
Kunming probably has the worst taxi drivers in the world. They refused to send us to almost all places we wanted to go.
Kunming probably has the worst taxi drivers in the world. They refused to send us to almost all places we wanted to go.
Kunming is a good place for sightseeing. There are many sites around Kunming with great scenery. For example, the paddy terrace in Yuanyang, the rape flower field in Luoping, the red earth in Dongchuan etc.
Located in the centre of Yunnan, Kunming is a great starting off point for the many wonders of the province.
It's a good place to stay 1 or 2 nights and go to other places in Yunnam. You can get useful information and plan your trip in Yunnam, like going to Shangri-La and other beautiful countryside.
Try to spend more time on shopping mushrooms as you can try various types which are quite expensive in other places.
kunming is the main city of yunnan most of the flights will go there we only stayed there as a transfer but it would also be worth staying there for a while exploring
The city wasn't very crowded. The city and air were clean. The traffic wasn't too bad and it was easy to get around.
Try to make a trip to Dongchuan Red Earth about 3-4 hours drive north from Kunming city. It is the most beautiful mountainous countryside with magnificent terrace farming views I've ever seen in my life
Whilst in Kunming you must visit the Stone Forest of Shiling and Dianchi Lake. Walk around the old centre, Jinma Biji and Dongfeng Squares.
Like all Chinese cities & town .. crowded and noisy. Kunming is rather big and tourist attractions are spread out.
Kunming is a beautiful city with numerous attractions eg stone forest. Food is relatively decent but not very outstanding.
A super modern mega city, very impressive. Environment is a priority no plastic bags, all motor bikes runs on battery as police vehicles etc.
