Where to stay in Hikkaduwa
Hikkaduwa hotels & accommodations

I have been to Sri Lanka several times and experienced many beaches properties within different beach areas of Sri Lanka. I could say Chaaya Trinz Hotel at Hikkaduwa is the best beach Resort ever I tried. The hotel is totally newly refurbished with highly standards and facilities. All the public areas are open air, even the floors’ passages to the rooms in different fl...

Fantastic we ended up extending and stayed four nights this hotel is nothing short of awesome . The staff are unbelievable friendly they would do anything for you. Restaurants fantastic we are every meal there , are by the pool drinks and food so cheap . Rooms was lively views spectacular we did not want to leave , in fact wish we didn't went to citrus waskaduwa sadly ...

This Hotel is stunning and right on the beach and the main road (other side). Staff is friendly and helpfull the even printed my boardingpasses for me when i asked and gave i booked an extra night with the same condition as booked on Agoda at the reception. Everything is well organized maybe best hotel i have been in Sri Lanka. I recommend this hotel if you go to Hikka...

I stayed at 5 different hotels/resort during my trip to Sri Lanka, and this was the only one that I have no recommendation/complaints about, everything was perfect. Staff where very friendly and helpful, and are able to anticipate your needs very well. Rooms are very neat and clean. Food was excellent and a good variety was offered during breakfast, lunch and dinner...

We were staying there with our family, little son of 3 years old and he loved to jump in the pool and run on the beach which is very easy excess. He has his birthday on the 27th of December and the Hotel management arranged a complementary birthday cake for him, that was a real happening for him! Thanks again Hotel management for arranging the cake. The staff is very a...

We stayed at the Asian Jewel for 5 nights at the end of our 3 week stay in Sri Lanka. What a high note to end on! We stayed in the Kingfisher room overlooking the pool and with access to a large verandah. Dale & Tanya have invested their hearts into their "home from home" and obviously take pleasure in hosting a luxurious, select stay for their guests. They are attenti...

I was the second time in Ramnal and was very pleased. As usual in Sri Lanka, not everything is perfect. You just have to tell it and it will be fixed in a short time (e.g. Toilet water, safe, air condition. The rooms arr worth the price. The good thing that the resort is managed by the Sri Lanka family Ranmal. The hotel is by far to low rated. It deserves 8 of 10 po...

I stayed at the Sapphire Seas Beachfront Villas for 4 days in March 2016. I found the place to be just great. Situated just a short tuk tuk ride from Hikkaduwa centre, it has just 10 rooms I think. This allows for a peaceful stay with a near perfect outlook onto the beach and the ocean just yards away. The rooms are a good size, spotlessly clean as are all the amenitie...

Relaxing new place with amazing staff and friendly owner, Dinesh. Eco friendly hotel. Rooms were spacious and clean. Ushan Dushyantha, the staff member at the bar/restaurant area was exceptional. We asked the kitchen staff if they were able to make some local seafood appetizers (deviled seafood) as it wasnt mentioned on the menu and without hestiation they prepared it...

I researched Villa 46 and looked at many reviews for many of the 4 & 5star hotels on Agoda. I have also stayed at quite a few 5 stars hotels and top reated AirBnB's in Sri Lanka already so my expectations were somewhat blown out of the water when I arrived at Villa 46. The first thing that shocekd me was why the establishment is not 5 star! The building is stunning and...

We arrived here noon and were given fresh welcome drink so nice. Then they gave us the room quickly and we were surprised as they had decorated our bed on my partner's birthday Wow... Comfortable bed and amazing sea view. We had sri lankan Breakfast in their restaurant which was delicious. Spent rest of the times on sun beds and private beach on door step. did not lik...

This small Hotel is a joy for heart and soul! the lovely german owner made a fantasic job in design, atmosphere and comfort for this lovely new Hotel. the beach is quite and beautyfull but the party beach hekkaduwa is just arround the corner if you want more action. the small city has everything you need and small restauranta and tuktuks are arround. But the problem is:...

5 star facilities with a boutique hotel hospitality. The beach is stunning, the pool is great, and the rooms are modern and spacious. It was our anniversary, and they heard it and made a special cake for us. Dinner was delicious and breakfast was very good and generous. I would definitely recommend.

From the minute we arrived the staff at Roman Beach Hotel were extremely accommodating there's not many hotels that will check you in at 5:00am! We stayed in the Caeser room which had incredible interior design, a massive spa bath and stunning views of the waves. It's a great novelty that the only sounds you hear are the crashing of the waves. The staff are very frien...

nippon villa beach resort is a great mid-value hotel in hikkaduwa. using "resort" in its name is perhaps something of an exaggeration-- it feels more like a solid three-star hotel-- but you pay much less than the prices at the true resorts in the area. the hotel is right on the beach, between the good surfing beaches to the southeast and the good swimming/snorkeling ...

a very pleasant stay experience in neela's, the location is right beside the hikkaduwa's beach, food in neela's is good, there also a lot other guest house and restaurant around there, enjoyed breakfast on the india ocean, leisure beach life is exactly ppl need from time to time, miss Sri Lanka already!

The best thing about Turtles Rest is the friendly staff and how welcome they make you feel. We also met the owners, who were great. The hotel is situated right in between the two beaches so you have easy access to everything. Giant Sea Turtles are a two minute walk away from the large front garden. We fed them by hand with seaweed. An unforgettable experience and wo...

My goodness... why did we not plan for more time in Hikkaduwa? Why did we not plan for more nights in Oasis Villa? Well, we will certainly plan better for any return to Sri Lanka. Hikkaduwa was our last full day of our 3 week trip, so we searched for a nice hotel and used the 'pool' filter, and this is how we found Oasis Villa. What a gorgeous hotel! The room was ...

It's a great place. The pool was clean and fun but deep at 4.5ft where kids can't enjoy that much. The owner was very friendly and respectful of our privacy which we loved. His wife even prepared dinner on short notice which was great. The outdoor BBQ area is excellent but make sure you bring your own charcoal, meat and fire starters. There is a P&S restaurant close by...

My wife and I stayed at Hotel Blue Sky from the 28th Dec 2016 - 2nd Jan 2017. Upon arriving we where greeted by the Hotel Manager, he mentioned that he was waiting for us, which was very welcoming. He immediately gave us the key and showed us to our room. Our bag where bought up within a minute. The room was ok, nothing fancy had air conditioning in the room with a fan...

Nice clean hotel with spatious rooms, excellent beds and the best bathrooms I have seen in Sri Lanka. Quality of the shower can't be better. Some staff is too young and without experience, they don't offer drinks on the pool etc, my impression is that they can be easily better, but I rest very satisfied with our stay there. I recommend this hotel.

The Staff is so friendly and helpfull. The rooms are cozy, the only thing is the bathroom could use a renovation but for the price you can't complain. The pool is good with a deep and a low end. It is located a bit away from the room so there is no trafic noise. Close to many great streetfoodplaces with the Best food We have had in Hikkaduwa. Would come Back if I eve...

neatness is what comes to mind to define Nimali guest house. simplicity, cleanliness, almost Japaneseness, and the best of all, the kindness of our host, Terrence, and his family. breakfast is one of the best we had in our almost 3 weeks in SL. Our room ,simple, as the rest of the house, was spotlessly clean, and spacious,as the attached bathroom. Nimali guest house is...

A very peaceful and relaxing hotel. Perfect to come back to after a busy day exploring hikkaduwa and surroundings. Surf breaks close by and very welcoming and friendly staff. A cocktail bar would be ideal but there are so many beach bars and restaurants nearby (less than 50m) so not a worry.
Cheap places to stay in Hikkaduwa

We stayed here for two nights and we enjoyed it. The accomodation is basic, clean and calm and includes a kitchen which we could use. The owner was one of the friendliest we met during our journey. He allowed us to check out at any time and even ordered a cheap tuk tuk for us. Thank you!! The villa is near the jungle- what we loved- because you can see beautiful birds ...

Despite making the booking confirmation, the hotel was not able to locate the booking on their system and promised to call us back (within minutes) to which we mentioned that we will be going for some site seeing but will be expecting the call. 2 hours later, I called Warren Bock who was not helpful and said that they didnt receive the booking confirmation (I had alrea...

This hotel is situated near the beach but not actually on it. It was a little hard to find initially. The owner and his wife were pleasant enough while I was there but did not really speak or help me with my bags on leaving. I had my washing done while I was there and it did not come back clean some of the other guests said the same, breakfast is ok you pay extra for th...

The Hikkaduwa River View Cottage is difficult to find as there is no sign marking the property. I spent about 1/2 hour trying to find the place, which of course cost me additional money for the services of the tuk tuk I had engaged. The property is a long way from downtown and from the beach. There is no air conditioning. There is no netting to keep the mosquitos off ...

After three weeks spent in Sri Lanka at various different guest houses, The Citadel was by far the best accommodation that we stayed in! The family room we booked was enormous and spotlessly clean throughout. Although the accommodation had no air conditioning the big fans above both beds were more than capable of keeping us cool through the hot nights. The location was...

We enjoyed our stay. Our room was on the second floor and had a nice balcony where we could rinse swimsuits and hang them to dry. The room was simple and spare, but had comfortable Sri Lankan woven cotton bedding and mosquito nets (thankfully!). It was cleaned daily, and we received fresh towels without any requests, which was really nice. The public areas had plenty o...

We fell in love with this guest house! Perfect location in Hikkaduwa as the beach is just across the road, close to several restaurants, supermarket and ATM. We saw baby turtles being brought out into the ocean, what an amazing experience!! The owners are so kind and helpful, they gave us a lot of recommendations for both our stay in Hikkaduwa and for the rest of our t...

We had the best stay at Tranquil Guest House! The staff is incredibly friendly and helpful - they're the best! The rooms are clean, bright, and spacious. The location is awesome. Walking distance to the beach, restaurants, and the bus/train station. The wifi was the fasted we've had in Sri Lanka. Everything about Tranquil Guest House was perfect!! We will definitely...

Methdunu villa is clean and comfortable with a well Equipped kitchenette. Laundry at a very reasonable price, lovely family run stay. Separate little unit on higher level with your own entry. Simple balcony area, which does get hot but lovely to sit when cooler to watch the surrounding wildlife (there’s a beautiful Kingfisher who comes everyday to bath in the large wa...

Firstly I need to point out that some of the pictures on the website are misleading and the room doesn't look like them and is not located where it says on the map. Secondly, if you are backpacking couple on a budget I would definitely recommend it. It is basically a private apartment on top of a family home and supermarket. The family are lovely and left us completel...

We got the spare room where their staff is staying, which explains why the sheets are not too clean and there are still things left in the wardrobe. They probably shouldn't take that many last minute guests and compromise on comfort of people who have booked way in advance. The location of the hostel is at the start of Hikkaduwa beach, which means you have to walk a lo...

It was a very short stay for just half a night since we were to leave for the airport. We booked the cheapest room, but were given a bigger one. No A/C and fridge for 25$ price. Room was clean and spacious, everything seemed new, hot water running. Didn't try Wi-Fi. The manager (or owner) was nice. There are two things worth mentioning - the railroad is nearby so your ...

Mary's was a nice find. We were in our last week of visiting Sri Lanka, and decided to get some dives in. We searched around Hikkaduwa, and Mary's fit our needs. First time finding it took a little work, as it's off the main road, and a couple blocks into the woods. We were met by the 2 sweet caretakers Lal & his wife, and shown to our room. A/C (much needed), a ...

The most pleasant stay through all 5 visits to Sri Lanka, very friendly and caring family. Trains pass nearby but suddenly it doesn't annoy (except the only one around 23:00). 5 lazy walk minutes to the lagoon/beach. Magic garden. Little old interrior but the whole place and atmosphere beyond expectations. Would definittely like to return

We stayed at Cinnamon Gardens for a week. The hotel is small, has only 10 rooms, which makes it very homey. The owner Samantha makes you feel at home, he and his staff try their best to make the guests as happy and satisfied as possible. The pool is clean and swimming at night is very nice. The beach is not the best in the area, the waves were strong, so we could not s...

We were glad to have chosen this hotel for our last two nights of our 15-day trip to Sri Lanka. It is about 5-8 minutes walk from the beach, which to be frank, was nothing special. For that reason, we spent most of our time relaxing by the pool or on the balcony. The property was quiet, our room was clean and well-appointed, and the staff were helpful and kind. The bre...

We arrived late at the hotel, but were not greeted with a whole lot of the Sri Lankan hospitality that we normally received from other places. In fact, I'm not sure why, but we were consistently asked when we were leaving (four times they asked me) as if we were a bother to the owners. The hotel was nice and on the beach, but with staff that really didn't make us feel...

Okay let me tell you, this was hands down the worst stay we had on our two week vacation in Sri Lanka. It's a total rip off. This hotel has a lot of things that could be great. The location, even though it's quite far from everything else, is pretty good right on the beach. You can tell that someone really tried to make it s a cool place when they built it. And it p...

Pros Good location if you want a busy resort with lots of choice of restaurants and bars. we stayed lower room first 2days.Hotel provided us laundry machine , and dining table , also there was kitchen facility.so we could wash and dry cloth, cook as well. there is some distance to the beach but you can rent a motor bike so no problem to get there. besides, they lend us upper room. that was more such a nice room. that was nicest room we have ever stayed ...

Araliya Gardens is located 2 km inland from the busy main road and the beach in a beautiful jungle settings. The rooms are spacious and well appointed and most of them have a garden and pool view. The pool is a delight and the setting is wonderfully quiet and relaxing. Breakfast is plentiful, but could use more Sri Lankan options. If you do not feel inclined to go out...

Spent four nights here and it was wonderful. Staff are excellent and provided outstanding service. Organised a trip to the Tsunami Museum along with the Moon Stone Mine. We also had a delicious sea food BBQ that was freshly caught that day! The pool is lovely and the room is clean and spacious. Would definetly stay again!

We paid quite alot of money for this pkace being 5 star so we were disappointed. The day reception staff were not very welcoming, the night fuy was great! The room was really big with safe, kettle, tv, wifi and large bathroom. We had a balcony with glimpses if icean views but no seating out there. The shower had 2 nozzles, one rain! But there was only hot water 10% of ...

I really enjoyed my stay here, the owner was friendly, spoke good English and was the perfect host throughout. The accommodation was clean, spacious, well organised and had fast wifi, the only negative is the location, but its only a couple km's from town so not a huge issue. Overall i personally would recommend this place 100%.

We recently spent 7 nights at the family run boutique Serenade Hotel. The hotel is in an excellent location right on the beach and situated at the southern quieter end of Narigama beach. Hikkaduwa centre and all the amenities are easily reached, 5 minutes in a tuk tuk or a pleasant walk along the beach. The room was nice and large spotlessly clean and had a comfortable...

Kai is a 2 minute walk from the beach, next to an ATM, supermarket, shops and a strip of reataurants and bars. Especially the roasted chicken and mutton pie!! My boyfriend has nut and fish allergies and they wer...

This hotel is mis advertised and rated. I booked a private Villa with TV. When I arrived they gave me a basic room with no TV or viewup many steps. The TV was in the family's living room. I left immediately but was not given a refund and the tuk tuk overcharged me. There are many better accommodations options available. I do not recommend this place.

Real reviews for hotels
For me this made as a great stopover for one night going from Colombo to the southern beaches.Well connected by trains and buses, it is easily accessible by either.
Make it a point to have your meals at Avendra Hotel especially their take out restaurant offers food items which are very tasty and suitable for a budget traveller.
Its a very small town with a very quirky houses. Streets are very small. Take care when crossing or walking on the roads, it seems like the local drivers all thinking that they are on a F1 Race Track :-) Please note that in Hikkaduwa there is no pedestrian paths, everyone walks on the road, so take a good care.
This is a very small town. No real nightlife around the hotel. The entertainment was made by the guests in the hotel.
I am a travel agent in Sri Lanka and you may call on +94771849036 to arrange tours for you in Hikkaduwa.
Nice enough beach, a few OK restaurants spread along the main road. Good for end of tour relaxation.
A small and nice town, suffering from a very busy coast road. All restaurants, hotels and shops are located along this road and the heavy traffic makes it unpleasant to walk along.
The town is worth a visit to have a great beach holiday as well as good food and exciting nightlife.
Hikkaduwa is a lovely place to stay. It offers so many things from beautiful nature to fresh, delicious food options.
Beaches is the main attraction at Hikkaduwa. The Children will particularly enjoy the fun filled town/ village.
In generally entire Hikkaduwa area is more popular because of long stretch of fantastic beach and corals arounds that area.
not the best point for travelling. stay in hotel. not going outside. then you have no problems. beach is ok but you can only swim in a special area not outside this hotel.
Absolut intet at foretage sig i denne by, hvis man altså kan kalde det for en by? Dårligt udbud af restaurenter og næsten ingen bare! Møg beskidt alle vegne og folk er for nærgående.
hikkaduwa has a long beach and good to visit for night if youre not in surfing. There are some shops and restaurants.
There may still be a lot of things that can be done to develop Hikkaduwa, but it sure is worth checking out the place if you want to have fun in the sun in a place that will not hurt your budget.
For me the one trip is not enough. Expect to be there again sometime soon for a longer period. I just fell in love with the vibe and pace of the town.
Great little town for endless beach fun and sunset drinks that keep you going long into the evening.
Very friendly people. Always welcoming and willing to chat. There is a party every night of the week in one of the beach bars.
A great place for surfing and sun soaking with a very reasonable cost of living if you can stay at a basic hotel.
I would recommend staying here if you want to be in a tourist area.We hired a car and driver for the day for $40 who drove us around the area to show us the best places to visit which was worth every cent.
It's a town by the sea with a lot of food parlors where you can enjoy fish, prawns, crabs as you like it.
Travelling to Hikkaduwa from Colombo is easiest using the Expressway which takes less then 1 hour. If you take the normal Galle Road it will take about 3 - 5 hours.
