3-star Designated Quarantine Hotel Review (Stay period: June 2-8, 2022)”
Not expecting much when booking in mid-May and being on a tight budget, I must say this 3-star hotel (located at the border of Wanchai / Causeway Bay) offers reasonably good boarding for its 7-day quarantine package at HKD750 a night in a 16-m2 room: 1. Bright room on a higher floor with an open view, looking out at a distance to Mount Cameron, the nearby amenities and mid-levels residential buildings 2. Old antique, but well-maintained furnishing and room conditions 3. Mould, dirt or dust free surfaces (super important to an OCD person like me😅) 4. Self-regulated air conditioning and air purifier units 5. Pretty basic, but quite tasty HK cafe Chinese style warm meal boxes (minus the milk tea / coffee and piping hot servings), with small amount of vege, 2 apples and three 250ml cartons of lemon tea / chrysanthemum / apple juice a day. Limitations: No meal plans to choose from (but, they were flexible in replacing some meal boxes with vegetarian ones since I don’t eat pork); not much closet space (small open space for hangers only); no coffee / tea bags; paper cups only; 2 electrical outlets; no tissue boxes (but 4 toilet rolls given for single occupancy). Supplies to bring in supplementing your stay: mug, extension cord, coffee / tea bags, a knife for apples, plate n cutlery (the makeover helps😂), detergent etc. All in all, I must commend the housekeeping and maintenance departments of the Charterhouse Causeway Bay Hotel for a job well done - and would recommend this hotel to those on a budget and fine with HK cafe Chinese style food😉
Good central location”
The location of this hotel in Wanchai is very good as it is near public transportation such as buses and trams. The room is a bit dated but it didn’t matter as much to me as I was out most of the time and I only used the room to shower and sleep. The staff were helpful but I was not very pleased when the hotel had posted complimentary bottled water and toiletries provided on the Agoda website when I made my reservation but there was none in my room when I checked in. The excuse was a new law banning hotels from providing single use toiletries and bottled water to hotel guests was just implemented by the Hong Kong government on the day when I arrived. I was told that they could provide bottled water if I were to pay for it. So it would be ok to receive a bottled water if I were to pay for it separately but not if the hotel were to provide it free of charge as it had advertised at the time when I made my reservation? There was no soap in the room so I argued with the hotel staff that are they going to encourage guests not to wash their hands properly by not providing soap in the room anymore? This is a hygiene issue so I hope those environmental nuts who created this unfriendly law to clearly “unwelcome” visitors to Hong Kong think carefully before they create a major hygienic issue by not providing soap for hotel guests to wash their hands!

I recently stayed at Charter for a couple of nights. Overall, the experience was decent, but there were a few areas that could be improved. Positives: The location is convenient, with easy access to local attractions and transportation. The staff were friendly and accommodating, always willing to assist when needed. The bed was comfortable, and I appreciated the fresh linens and cleanliness of the room. Areas for Improvement: The room itself felt a bit dated, and some of the furniture showed signs of wear. Noise from the hallway and neighboring rooms was noticeable at times, which disrupted my sleep on occasion. Overall, It was a decent stay for the price, but with a few upgrades and attention to detail, it could be much better. I’d consider staying again if some of these issues were addressed.

Pros: 1. We we're able to check in early (about an hour if I remember correctly) - which we're very grateful because it was so hot when we arrived in HK. 2. Hotel is near Wanchai and Causeway Bay MTR station, lots of bus routes too (airport bus is 4 blocks away) 3. Lots of stores/resto nearby. 4. Clean room! And bathroom! (but my mom said the sheets smell bad - so we asked for new ones the next day) 5. Room was not as small as I expected, and the beds are spacious. 6. Lobby staff we're really nice and helpful, specially with directions. The front desk agent, not as "friendly", but she was nice. 😂 Probably just the language barrier. Cons: 1. We're 3 in the room but pillows were only for 2 (2sets/4pcs). 2. Also the complimentary water was only two. 3. Pillows. I've read on one of the reviews that it's so soft - yes they are, but too soft for my liking (they're lifeless pillows 😂) 4. Same with cups/mugs. One review said it took forever, and yes, I had to follow up. 5. Housekeeping didn't take our used mugs, so I asked for new ones the next morning, but they gave us paper cups instead, (I think the one who delivered the mugs meant that we wash& reuse it - she gestured something but just realized it after she gave us paper cups) and 20 sachets of coffee and 16 creamers, no sugar. Thanks? Lol 6. Smoking area is right by the entrance door!!! 7. No bidet. (But I think most hotels in HK) - Overall, we had a nice stay. Would recommend!
