We recently stayed at this hotel and had a stay that was mixed, to say the least. While there were positives, several issues—particularly around dignity and hospitality—stood out and merit serious attention. Challenges: The most troubling issue was the condition of the drivers’ quarters. Though the hotel advertises free accommodation for drivers, they do not disclose that these quarters lack air conditioning, are shared by five drivers, and have only one fan. In sweltering 96°F heat with high humidity, this is unacceptable. Regardless of perceived hierarchy, no one should be expected to endure such inhumane conditions—especially while serving guests of the hotel. This level of disregard is shocking and beneath the standard of any hospitality provider, let alone a hotel with such a big name. As a simple and ethical solution, the hotel could offer an upgraded lodging option for drivers and include a reasonable surcharge for guests who bring drivers. Many guests would be more than willing to pay extra to ensure their drivers are treated with dignity and given humane accommodations. The check-in process also needs improvement. It took nearly 30 minutes—a long time when you’re exhausted from travel. Additionally, although we had pre-paid for dinner through Agoda, the hotel staff asked about it twice, including just as we were entering the dining area with our family. That kind of poor coordination is frustrating. While some staff were warm and courteous, others were indifferent. The restaurant experience also felt uncomfortable at times. The overseeing staff seemed to watch guests too closely —as if we might eat without paying. This kind of treatment erodes the feeling of being welcomed. Positives: The rooms were fairly clean, spacious, and well-kept. Beds were firm but comfortable, and the large bathroom was a plus. Housekeeping staff in our wing were exceptional—helpful, polite, and attentive. The beach was beautiful, and poolside/beach staff were kind and accommodating. Some of the chefs were fantastic and went out of their way to be helpful. That said, vegan food options were very limited. Nearly all desserts and breads included dairy, and only a few local dishes were vegan-friendly. For a large hotel brand, it’s surprising not to see more inclusive, plant-based meal offerings. Final Thoughts: The hotel offers beautiful grounds and some great staff, but unless it addresses both guest experience and how it treats the essential support staff—like drivers—it fails to meet the standard its brand suggests. The hospitality industry is about people, and everyone, including those working behind the scenes, deserves to be treated with basic human dignity.
